    Porterhouse

Great country casual restaurant. Two sides plus a soup or salad with entries. Porterhouse was perfect, supposed to be 20 oz. but was more like 24-26. Dance hall with live music on Saturday nights. Call ahead.

    Chicken Fried Bacon, best ever!

First of all let me say WOW now THIS is Texas home-style cooking at it's best!!! I hadn't been to Holman's since I was very young but after hearing there was some changes in ownership we decided to try it again (it always seemed a bit dirty so we didn't go for awhile). Clearly there were changes and refurbishment in the decor that made it look sooo cute, clean and classy while keeping the antique charm of the building! The food was absolutely delicious just as I had remembered and the fried bacon CANNOT be passed up!!! One of the best thing I've ever eaten! For my meal I ordered grilled shrimp with broccoli and instead I got fried shrimp with green beans... totally different order but the staff was super nice and accommodating to fix the error! I felt bad throwing away perfectly good shrimp so I ate it anyways, and YUM! What a happy accident!!! The fried shrimp was some of the best I've ever had! I only take off one star because in the heat of a Texas summer, it was very warm in there because the building is so old, and the service was a bit slow and also made my order wrong. But the staff was super nice and apologetic and I can't wait to come back!!!

Holman Vally Steak House is only open 3 days a week. Thursday through Saturday and they only open for dinner. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer. They were pipping hot and not greasy. Some of the best that I have had. Served with ranch dressing. For my entree I ordered the 10 -12 oz ribeye. The dinner comes with your choice of baked potato or fries, soup and salad. Soup choices are homemade chicken noodle or potato soup. I had the chicken noodle and it was great. I also tried the potato soup, it was good but not like you would expect. It was more of a clear broth, not the standard creamy style. The salad was pretty plain, one tomato slice and blue cheese. Complementary crunchy bread sticks were also serve with the soup / salad. They are kind of like long croutons. Very good. I had ordered my ribeye rare, unfortunately it was a very thin steak so it came out overcooked about med to med well. No seasoning at all. I wouldn't order it again. I may try the chicken fried chicken next time. The special of the day was the chicken fried ribeye. I didn't try it but was told it was just ok, it was lacking in seasoning as well. Our waitress also said they can chicken fry anything on the menu if we wanted. LOL Service was great. Our waitress was very friendly. All in all an enjoyable meal.

    The Buttermilk pie was delicious!

My husband brought me to this little restaurant, that's on his route for work. We were very impressed with the service and of course, the food! The sausage and sauerkraut balls were delicious. Then, I had their Chicken Fried Steak with sweet potato fries and squash casserole while my hubby had their NY Strip Steak with baked potato casserole and fried okra. It was for us a PERFECT MEAL! And, to top it all off, a scrumptious Buttermilk Pie! It sure was worth the drive. We will be back too!

Great little steakhouse located between Weimar and La Grange on FM 155 North. It's a nice dive and located in a small valley out in the country, far enough in the country that my cell phone reception was at one bar. It is open three days a week, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays for dinner. Until recently it wasn't usually very crowded but in my last two visits on a Saturday evening, it has been crowded around 7:00PM and seems to stay that way. Get there early. The menu is a basic steak house variety with various cuts of steak, some chicken choices and an expanded seafood menu, mostly fried. Wine and beer are available with your general run of national beers and wines. Food is well prepared and my Chicken Fried Steak was crispy and tended. The sides of fried okra and steak fries were a nice addition. The steaks all looked good. The chicken soup is very good along with the toasted bread. This place caters to locals from Weimar, Oakland and La Grange and folks seem to know each other. Staff are great, no issues with service, always a smile and very helpful.

I've had one of the most unprofessional and racist drive-thru experiences I've ever had here…read more When I pulled up, the employee made a sarcastic comment about my vehicle and questioned why I expect to be served. When I asked her to repeat what she said, she immediately backtracked and went silent. At that point, I felt uncomfortable and concerned about the safety of my food. When I calmly said I would leave and write a review instead, the employee leaned out of the window and mockingly said she would read it. This was not a misunderstanding. It was a hostile attitude and a complete lack of basic customer service. I don't care what someone drives. I don't care who they are. I care about being treated with respect and professionalism when ordering food. Management seriously needs to retrain staff or review who they put on customer-facing shifts. This interaction alone guarantees I won't be stopping here again. I do not need racial abusive remarks thrown at me just because of what I'm driving. This is sociopathy.

In less than a week I somehow visited both the best McDonalds I have ever been to outside Boston…read morewith the fireplace in the dining room and the worst McDonalds I have ever been to at this location outside Austin. It would make a fun point-to-point trip for novelty travel vloggers like Ian, you know the one Ian if you spend enough time online, "air conditioning outside!"-Ian, someone I would definitely be best friends with given our common interests in key lime pie and whimsy. These are two entirely separate worlds apart from the good one outside Boston and this awful one right here. I pulled off the road after a difficult work day in Austin on the way back into Houston for a refreshing frozen Coke. The best frozen Coke I ever had was in Orlando just a few weeks ago, they mixed both the vanilla coke and cherry coke flavours as a secret (well, less-secret-now) VIP favour to me in Disney Springs. I wanted to re-live that experience or at least get as near as possible to it for refreshment you can find close to the highway between Austin and Houston. I moseyed on in to order in the store since outside Boston I found a fireplace in the dining room at that McDonalds. What would I find here outside Austin, maybe a banjo? A steer that they are supposed to be famous for around here? A drag queen that got sidetracked whilst getting dressed that morning and left the house gussied up as Bing Bong (on a normal day, not Halloweekend) rather than in drag? Maybe something else? The sky is the limit on these possibilities once you find a fireplace in a McDonalds dining room, anything can happen in a dining room now. I ordered my frozen coke and paid. I waited for my order. I had already ordered and paid, mind you. Then the guy comes out and tells me that the frozen coke machine is broken. Why did they let me order and pay for something they knew they did not have? I said ok, gimme the frozen Dr Pepper since we can't have everything but we can get close. He said that machine was broken, but somehow inexplicably they had the frozen blue one working. Da fuq? There is only one freezy drink machine, it is an unholy drink cloaca where all flavours come out of one hole like a Coke freestyle stand in Orlando, it is not separate holes for each beverage like Club Cool in Epcot. I accepted the blue thing I did not want since I had already ordered and paid and the traffic was only getting worse on the road so I wanted to get back on the road to Houston. I was presented with a blue thing that was like 75% filled. It tasted and smelled like it had been mixed with Sam Vimes' dirty boots and rubber cement. It was dreadful. I am a certified hater (see my one star reviews from the particularly spicy years of 2011-2016) so I actually WOULD wish this on my worst enemy, but not myself. I was plenty fine it was not completely filled after all since it was assigned immediately to the circular filing system. Don't mess with [frozen cokes]
