As a family we decided to stay in Columbus, TX due to a nearby attraction (waterpark) and celebrate our niece's birthday. For her dinner she chose Blake's Kitchen & Kocktailz spot to bring us all together for a nice late dinner on a Friday night. Parking was super easy and plenty of spots. At night the lot is a little dark so keep that in mind when you are here during night time hours. I had family and company so I felt safe walking with them in and out of the lot. Inside is large and surprisingly they got the space to hold a large party like ours where we had ten (10) people to join in on the celebration. The staff and team were cool enough to allow us to bring in our own birthday cake, utensils, and small plate for the occasion. Menu is large and there really is something for even the pickiest eaters. Our whole party all got things from the menu that ranged from hamburgers, smaller sized country fried steak, and even some mocktails that were not on the menu for the birthday girl. Service was fast and prompt through (almost) the entire night until our servers changed and no one told us. It was fine service changed we just wanted to know and make sure our server, Lily, got the tip we left behind for her taking care of us. Food was good and call came out at the same time which was just OK for me on my hamburger steak but I understand - we are a group of 10! Waitress service was bad, waited for water and attention to take our order. Finally flagged down the waitress to order. We were sitting at the bar so pretty evident we were waiting to order. We waited an hour and after questioning why our order was taking too long she explained there was a large catering order so it was slowing things down. We told her to cancel our order and she quickly brought us our check for our drink order. There was no consideration to try to get us our order. Just accepted easily we were leaving. These are supposed to be Chicken Strips dipped in BBQ Sauce. Dipped, I don't think so. It looks like the cook dipped his finger in BBQ Sauce and ran it over the top of the Chicken Strip. If I was the server, I would be ashamed to serve this plate to a customer. Absolutely terrible! read more

We went to Blake's tonight as a family. My boys and husband ordered the 79 cent hot wings. I asked if it would be OK to order the kids meal sliders for my meal and explained that I had gastric bypass. She said that would be OK. I ordered the sliders and asked for the drink to have the kids sized root beer and not a full sized one. The menu said the drink was included. . She came back with a full sized drink and told me there would be an additional charge of $4 to my $7 kids meal and set the drink down at he table, making it $11. She could have told me that when I ordered the drink instead of after and then bringing me a large drink instead of the kids size. . I cannot even drink a whole drink. Then the sliders came out. The meat was overdone and hard. I couldn't chew it down small enough to swallow and the French fries were cold, floppy and had no salt or seasoning. So I basically didn't eat because I didn't want to ask her to take the meal back. Not a win this time. The guys said the wings were good. read more

Great food and drinks. Sports bar atmosphere but not loud. (Also not football time either though) Wife and I split two burgers so we can try both. Asked to have each cut in half. We had a table of eight people, came in early before they got busy and all our food came out cold, we asked for the manager to complain. Manager wasn't here. They did replace our french fries when we asked for more water. They brought us a pitcher of water when it was empty I had to carry it up to the bar and get it refilled. The CFS was great - thick, tender, nicely breaded and fried. Skimpy on the gravy. Should have seen that coming as salads were served with about a teaspoon and a half of dressing, hardly anything but croutons and lettuce. Magnifying glass- there was a tomato and cheese. Onion ring were well made. Again nicely breaded and fried. The grilled chicken was a bomb NOT THE bomb. Scrawniest piece of meat overly seasoned and cooked to abominably dry. Waiter never came to check how things were. Since we needed to get back on the road my travel partner suffered through about 1/2 of this slim chicken. Went to Blakes on Saturday night. Service was very slow and most of the food came out cold. Sent some back but too much of a hassle to send it all back. One in our party said he doesn't like to complain, he just won't go back. I believe that to be the opinion of the entire table. Tried to talk to the manager but he wasn't there. read more

We intended to go to Schobel's, but decided to stop by Blake's since we've never been. What a mistake that was. First off, food took a long time to come. They're busy I get it. But what was most bizarre, was that waitresses (not our waiter) kept coming by and asking if we were ok (as I stared at an empty table). I finally had enough, and half-laughed sayinf, I would be better if I had my food. Shortly after, the food arrived. My fried fish came on dry bread and onion rings were extremely over fried. The catfish wasn't fresh and had a fishy taste. The onion rings were like biting into sawdust. I tried my husband's burger and it was ok. So were the sweet potato fries (a little soggy toward the bottom). But for $12-$13, I expect a decent meal and at least decent service. It would have been better if we had the same waiter or waitress the whole time, but it seemed like none of the staff knew what order had been put in, or what we were waiting on. I will stick with Schobel's or the Italian place across the street in the future, when driving through Columbus. read more

came here spontaneously during TIR. plenty of parking and seating. quick service and our waitress was absolutely PHENOMENAL (i wish i got her name b/c although she was clearly overworked, she always had a smile on her face and went extra mile). the price point here is a STEAL as well. $12 for a burger w/ lettuce, tomato and cheese PLUS fries at a restaurant i feel like is unheard of now-a-days haha BUT unfortunately it was very dry (i asked for medium rare but it was VERY well done) and not that flavorful. the fries were also soggy. they also charge a 3.5% service charge for credit cards which was a bit steep so i paid in cash. overall, i wish i could like this place but the food just wasnt it. the vibes, cleanliness and the staff were great though! read more

I meant to post this yesterday. What a fabulous find on our way home to Houston. The bartender was awesome and the food was amazing! We split a wedge salad, wings, and the ahi tuna nachos. All was delicious! The couple next to us ordered the Brussels sprouts. When I asked how they were, he told us to sample one. That was how he found out about them. The food was very good. We had the Ahi Wonchos, pizza, a couple of burgers, and chicken fried steak. All had compliments of the delicious food and drinks. The problem we found was with other customers that were at the bar. Our children could not ignore the amount of f* words and other profanity being yelled out. My husband felt the need to address the language but it only got worse. Employees apologized on behalf of their friends who were over intoxicated (and falling out of their chairs). Even getting into our car we dealt with a man screaming profanities on the phone with his window down. Decided trying something different and heard about Blake's. My Grandson and I walked in, very attractive designed restaurant/bar. We were waited on promptly! We looked over the menu and chose several items! Started with Firecracker shrimp, Gator Bites and Brussel Sprouts for starters! The Firecracker shrimp and sauce was good. The shrimp were pretty small! The Gator bites was fair at best. Mikey loves alligator at Pappdeaux's in Houston. It tasted more like a crab cake. I even asked if the order was right. They assured me it was. Mikey didn't like, so I gave up my firecracker shrimp to him! Took my first bite of the Brussel Sprouts. Didn't like it, but hung in there. Closer in you could taste the cheese and chili honey and it was very good. I ordered a tower of onion rings and a Salisbury steak. The onions were good, The Salisbury was good, but I wish it was larger and had more gravy. I had to order chicken tenders for Mikey. They we're just OK. But it filled in for him, because the shrimp were so small and skinny! I barely give this place three stars on the food! The design of the location, 4 plus stars! The bar, 4 plus stars! In my mind, if your looking for a great singles bar, this place is excellent! The food, I guess fits for bar food! The reason for 3 stars is only based on the food. This place is an easy go to for a local spot but the service has gotten really bad. Took awhile to get plates or napkins after we asked. Didn't like that our waitress used her palms & fingers all over the top of the plates as she carried / set them down after picking up menus that were on cleaning rags. Tables & every fixture / surface are filthy. The floors are really really bad. I know Sundays can be busy but this looks like days worth built up of so much trash, food, dust & grime. The food is good & some nights w/ specials are a nice mix up. But coming in & ordering we immediately lost our appetite with how gross it has gotten & how slow / apathetic the staff seem. We mentioned something about the floor to one staff member who just glared at us and walked off. Compared to how Blake & his staff have always been in the past this is disappointing and we are wondering if the kitchen stays this dirty. Hopefully, it's just a one off & goes back to the way Blake has always ran it in the past. But definitely needs a deep clean and some attention. read more

Love this place! I go to Columbus for work twice a year and I look forward to eating here every time. Really spacious restaurant and bar. Big patio for plenty of outdoor seating. Great music. The staff is super chill, friendly, and welcoming. Blake is often out and about waiting on tables himself and you wouldn't even guess he's the owner. The food is great! I have had many items off this menu and have yet to be let down, in fact, my favorite is the Chicken and Waffle Slider. Don't be fooled by the word "slider" because this thing is massive. We had a lovely time at dinner and had an amazing waitress who did her job wonderfully the entire time, until our food runner came out. A woman named Maggie in a hot pink "MAMA" hat. She was pleasant until my dad realized that my boyfriend needed a fork. The food runner turned her back after giving us our food and we said thank you for our food. All my father said was "ma'am!" Trying to get her attention but be polite.... He wasn't loud but just enough to get her attention... The go to hell look this woman gave my father AND us as she turned around and had that same look on her face the entire time she gave us another fork until she turned around to walk away was not superb customer service. It was horrible. She was horrendous and had a horrible attitude and ruined the experience as soon as she did that. We were told she is a constant issue and that's why she stays in the back. Employees like this are a reason most people learn decent customer service skills. You will earn nothing with a disgustingly rude look on your face just for asking for a spare fork. We were still polite besides that. Beware of this food runner due to the fact if you even ask for a fork, she will be a bitch to you. We love coming to Blake's, they have amazing menus and options, the owner is extremely nice and very observative. We were appreciative of him all evening, but the service from the food runner Maggie? I picked this place off of reviews because I needed to meet someone in the area. I will admit it gave me pause when I pulled up and it was part of a gas station complex on the frontage road of I-10!? BUT. The place was clean, staff was friendly, and menu was huge. Food was very good and they have something for everyone. Including seafood, steaks, Asian, etc. would definitely recommend if you are looking for a convenient place to stop traveling I-10 in the area. Great place to refresh along your travels! read more

We made dinner reservations for our party of four recently. The food was moderately good. The largest hinderance to the evening was the extremely slow service. Slow to get drinks, then salads, waiting to order entrees, then receive them. It took three hours to complete our meal. Owners need to respond to service failings.
