My husband and I were out on a motorcycle ride on Christmas Eve and passed through Caldwell. We were excited to see something open and decided to stop at Daisy Dukes Barbecue--and I'm so glad we did. From the moment you walk in, you get that hometown, come-on-in feeling that lets you know the food is going to be good. We were starving and couldn't decide what to order, so the owner suggested a sampler. I don't know if it was an official menu item or something she just put together for us, but she absolutely loaded us up. We had brisket, sausage, fried fish, potatoes, potato salad, coleslaw, and beans--and every bit of it was amazing. We even grabbed two desserts to go. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place, and I can't believe it's been here forever and we've never stopped in before while traveling through. In other words, this place is just one step above a food truck and no public bathroom. Inside there will be a flatscreen playing an episode of either Bonanza, the rifleman or the Lone Ranger. In the background, you can hear the sound of numerous cattle mooing. My simple order still took about 20 minutes to make its way out despite only one other person in line. The tip screen will be waiting when you run your card while you either wait in the cramped cool room or sit outside waiting for your order. I have to admit the chopped beef sandwich was probably the best I've ever had as it was stuffed well beyond what the plain white bun was ever designed for. This sandwich alone took this from a three star to a four star review. To be honest, what I got was vey good, but the disappointment of little to nothing to choose from hardly made it worth the drive. If you're not the early bird, don't expect much. Pro tip : seems like most Saturday's they have a dish called Josh's chicken. I'm working on dropping some weight . So this is a chicken quarter with their seasoning / rub. It's excellent , by itself . But I strip the skin which sheds the chicken to about 270 to 300 calories . The Texas White BBQ takes LJ ' s offers takes this chicken to another level . The white sauce I was told does not have any sugar in it , so the calories are lower than any other white sauces you encounter , if any or few , in Texas . I then have cut celery sticks and cut carrots with the sauce to dip , and now you have an ALL world , lower calorie lunch or dinner . You could go with the regular bbq sauce . But trust me the Texas White BBQ Sauce is life altering !
