Arrived for lunch at 11;30. I had my order taken and ready to eat in less than 5 minutes. Employees were friendly and courteous. Inside the dining room was clean and comfortable. Country music playing at an appropriate volume. Styrofoam plates and drink cups, plastic utensils and paper napkins. I ordered a half pound of brisket and a half pound of beef ribs. Portion size was very good. I was full before I finished my plate. Meat was tender and the bar b q sauce was also very good. My total with a large drink was just north of $30. Sweet local place with fast & friendly service. I had their 1/4 chicken special. My daddy's specialty is smoked chicken and I'd put Lost Pines' up against his! Not too salty and even my white meat was perfectly juicy. Pinto beans were basic, but you can dress them up with onions, hot sauce, salt etc. I loved the bbq sauce too, might be my favorite! Very tomatoey and spicy, not sweet or syrupy, which is how I like it. All this for the price of a fast food combo meal, Will definitely stop back next time I come through town. read more

Stop here if you're driving Houston to Austin! I love these small local restaurants when we find a good one. As soon as we walked in, I said "it smells good" - the smell of good BBQ that will likely taste good. The customer at the counter said "it IS good". I popped into restroom (clean!) while husband ordered, and when I came back out and saw the size of the rib on his plate I said WOW. I have never seen a beef rib that large at any BBQ spot we've been to. Ridiculously large. Get an arm workout while you eat. Husband ended up taking half of it to go it was so large. He also said it was delicious (I will take his word since I can no longer eat meat), cooked well, tender, tasty. I had a few of their sides - baked potato, green beans, cole slaw - and those were great as well. Fresh food. Staff was super nice and friendly. Service was fast. Restaurant was clean. I did giggle when I handed my husband the plastic fork I grabbed and saw it compared to the size of the rib on his plate, I just looked at him and told him best to use his hands. Let's start with the brisket: Yum! It was flavorful and juicy, but not too fatty. The coleslaw was quite good, too. I've never had red onion in coleslaw before, but it added a pleasant sharpness, and the tiny pieces of onion ensured that there was not so much that it overpowered the cabbage. The sausage was gray in color, no snap, no seasoning and mushy. I promise you the grocery store has better smoked sausage. The brisket was horrible- no burnt bark, no marble, no taste, no resemblance of smoke, no nothing. I don't even bbq but I will throw a brisket in the oven with some liquid smoke for tacos. That would have been better than Lost Pines fatty, mushy, brisket. The pork ribs were the best thing. They had a slight crunch to the skin, moist and kind of peppery. The turkey was dry, no crust, bland and too thinly sliced. The sauce- oh lord. I put sauce to the test by running my fork around it & watch the sugary/vinegar mic drizzle from the prongs. Lost Pines "sauce" was like water. It didn't drizzle, it left my fork before I pulled it out the container. I added my own sauce, hot sauce and red pepper flakes. Peach cobbler? Really? It had steel cut oats, minced peaches and some brown sugar. Did I mention unsalted, thick, nasty oatmeal? Ugh. Never again. Sorry Lost Pines. We stopped here in the way to Marble Falls. We had the chicken which was the Saturday special. It was so good! The potato salad had mustard which is the way I grew up eating it so I was so pleased! Just finished wolfing down a 1/2 bbq chicken from Lost Pines. I'd have to say was some of the best chicken I've had. My wife got the brisket which is something we don't get very often where we live unless I cook it and it was really flavorful and tender. Turkey - was their best meat, super moist, tender and juicy and a good quality piece of meat, no composite turkey here. Brisket - smoked well, flavorful, moist enough for a lean cut. Ribs - Were decent, would have liked a little more flavor in the bark but nothing to complain about. Sauce - served warm, went well with the meat. Being absolutely starved, I was on board to try it out. You figure out pretty quickly that it's a family-owned place, and the folks at the counter are friendly and appreciative. Where they missed the mark, though, was the barbecue. I ordered a brisket and sausage plate... what I ultimately got was the "inedible fat and sausage" plate. Seriously, there was no brisket on the plate that was even remotely meat-like - it was all greasy fat. The sausage was good, but after paying $13 for lunch I'd hoped that I wouldn't have to throw half the meal away. I had high hopes - but it was not to be. This is a neat place right in the heart of town. Ordered a 2 meat plate with Brisket and Pork loin. Sides were beans and Potato salad. The beans were ok tasted similar to ranch style beans in a faint way but I think they had bees holding them all day and I'm sure they were probably good at lunch lacked salt though. The potato salad resembles a store bought mustard based salad but very creamy and were decent enough. The pork loin was a bad choice and was way over cooked and again probably held all day but really bland. The brisket was the high note I had an option to have lean or fatty and I opted for the fatty. Although not a fresh brisket it did have decent smoke flavor and a nice salt and pepper bite it defiantly was the best thing I tried there. The sauce is thin and smokey but ok nothing spectacular. I like this place, but not really for the reason they should be liked: their barbeque. They're pretty average when it comes to their meat. The brisket, turkey, and sausage are all on the dry side. And their bbq sauce is very watery and hardly sticks to anything. But, they have an awesome salad bar, and that's why I return. They actually have romaine and spinach instead of iceberg!
