There's a reason these folks are on the TM best list! Ate here on a steamy Saturday, and we were thankful for a short line, a covered waiting area and cold Lone Star beer for the wait. There is some seating available in the restaurant, but seating is mostly outside (largely covered, with fans going, thank goodness!). The service is fast and extremely friendly! We split a 3 meat (brisket, pulled pork, brisket boudin sausage) 2 sides (famous Brussels sprouts and pinto beans). The brisket and pork were dynamite! Brisket was a good mix of lean and moist, beautifully smoked. Pulled pork was soooo moist!!! Pintos were very flavorful classic Texas beans. Brussels were sweet and very lightly spicy. I love a good potato bread and they serve Martin's here. I could have eaten my weight in their house made pickles...they are the perfect foil to the richness of the meats. Both sauces were also fab --a classic bbq with a little extra vinegar than some, and a great mustard based sauce. We didn't have dessert, but the cakes look divine!! After several attempts to get in the Washington Ave. location, I tried the Brenham location in route to visit family. I was the first person in line. The next group in line was a military family of eight, most from California, visiting a Texas A&M student. They were great company! A 90-minute wait and a 90-minute drive to Belton was all that stood me and a great meal. I ordered 1/2 lb brisket, 1/2 lb ribs, 2 links of their original sausage, beans and coleslaw. The servers were very generous with the the condiments, bread and utinsils. The restaurant had good vibes all around... the patrons, the staff, the decor. I even enjoyed the blues that they played while we waited... foot-tapping duet with BB King and Tracy Chapman singing The Thrill is Gone. Arrived around 10:45am , place opens at 11am. A few people in line and only street parking available behind the place. Free Lone Star beer makes the wait enjoyable on a warm Texas day. My crew of four got the Texas Trinity and added 1/2 pound of brisket along with a slice of carrot cake. Sides we got potato salad and Brussel sprouts. Brisket 9/10 is was good but not a 10/10 Ribs 8/10 as they are good but could have been more tender. Sausage we got 1 link of each type 10/10 but my favorite was the brisket boudin. At 99.75 plus our add ons this enough food for 3 guys and little me. We sat outside as it was a picture perfect day for Texas Saturday. Unfortunately the negative reviews here were 100% accurate. Honestly I'm not sure if this place is just tourist trap or if they are actually supposed to have good food. Ordered 2 , 2 meat plates and a couple of extra sides. Brisket was dry and rock hard. Literally stiff. The "Pulled pork" was a solid chunk of dry pork, it pulled into strings which means it was removed from the smoker while still in the stall. Sausage was edible if you pealed the skin off. The ribs were the good but I have had better at spring creek. The Potato salad and coleslaw were mediocre. Brussel sprouts were an odd combination of sweet and burnt. Life Changing!!! Yes, there will be a line. It's there for a reason and you won't be disappointed for waiting in it. No matter how long it is. I ordered the 2-meat plate with 2 sides. Brisket is so juicy and has a smoke ring that's 1/4" thick. It's a thing of beauty. The ribs are perfect, they meat doesn't just fall off the bone, but a gentle tug and the bone pulls right off. The sides are the best. Gotta have the collard greens. Something an about collards and bbq just click. Today I tried the Brussels sprouts and I was not disappointed. Crispy goodness with a sweet kick. Also, the tater tot casserole is amazing. The homemade pickles and red onions finish off the perfect plate of bbq. Like most other reviews the sides here are pretty amazingly good. The corn pudding was definitely unique (something I've never had before) and oh my The brussel sprouts was to die for. The brisket was moist, flavorful, and just down right rich. We are brisket people and truth doesnt disappoint. The ribs were pretty good but we definitely enjoyed the brisket more. The hot sauces were a great addition to the meats and the tables are cleaned off, turned around pretty quickly and there was never a giant mound of trash or trays left around unattended for long. They also have to go containers for any leftovers by the utensils and soda fountain area. The staff were super friendly, helpful, and quick to clean up any messes. We made a stop here before flying out so we had 3 pieces of luggage with us that they were able to accommodate and store off to the side. I definitely look forward to coming back. read more

No sauce needed, but we both tried the house BBQ sauce, which is a nice blend of vinegary-savory-sweet that accented the meats, didn't smother them. The sides were generous; the pinto beans had meat in them and weren't too spicy; a good accent for the grilled meats. The potato salad was a little on the dark side, but that may have been due to the generous amount of diced meat in it as well. Not sure if it was bacon, or what, but it hit the spot. The self-serve soda fountain was perfect. Service was as quick as it could be, given the quality of the food: one guy built the sandwiches as we ordered them and another scooped up the sides. Holy crap. It was so lucky that we even ended up here. My husband and I were visiting some family in Houston, and we came super excited to experience Texas BBQ. My family of 6 ordered their Texas Trinity platter to share, 1lb each of brisket & ribs & 3 sausage links (regular, jalapeño cheddar, brisket boudin), plus we added 1/4lb of turkey for my youngest. Sides for our order were mac n cheese & brisket beans. If I had to rank each the entree items from favorite to least favorite, I would go 1/brisket, 2/jalapeño cheddar sausage, 3/boudin, 4/ribs, 5/turkey, 6/mac n cheese, 7/brisket beans, & 8/regular sausage. Dont let this ranking fool you, though, because I would return & eat all of this again in a heartbeat. Their brisket, jalapeño cheddar sausage, & brisket boudin are special dishes. Corn pudding, collards and coleslaw. Pulled pork looked like scraps and it had way too much fat in it; grossed me out. The brisket was dry so I used the bbq sauce... that tasted sweet and sour, sour like vinegar; didn't like it. The ribs were tasty and had plenty of meat. Corn dressing... blah..no onion, no nothing... The collards were ok but needed more salt & pepper, at least more ham... the coleslaw... was decent, I prefer sweeter. We stopped here hoping this place lived up to its name. We were NOT DISAPPOINTED. The staff was laidback, yet very welcoming. Inside of the building is cozy and there is plenty of outdoor, covered seating. But the most important thing is THE FOOD! The brisket is moist , tender and full of smokey flavor.The same is the "Truth" for the pork ribs. We got double servings of the tater tot casserole, and were so glad we did. It was rich, creamy and full of flavor.For dessert we got the coconut cake and the carrot cake; they both understood the assignment!. Truth has to seem like a throw back to most people. Old school Roadside, walk up ordering with outdoor seating so that the barbecue speaks for itself is risky, but they pull it off. I had the Houston location before this one and there are some pros and cons to each, although your gonna have to wait in line at either location. The BBQ itself is worth that 30-40min wait however, when you get good barbecue it starts to be difficult to distinguish between other good barbecue. Thankfully Truth falls into that upper ring of good bbq. Tender moist brisket, snappy flavorful sausage, fall of the bone ribs, they have it all. This place is literally located on highway 290 and the sound of the highway just a few feet away is deafening. If you find yourself coming here, keep in mind there are only 8 parking spaces in their lot so you'll have to park on a surrounding street. You may also want to think about getting it to go since there's only about 12 picnic tables (and 2 inside) on the property. Keep in mind that they are only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. What's interesting, is the fact that the building that you order from is barely big enough to park a car in. You'll probably be standing in line anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes which is very common. They also offer some good desserts, such as coconut cake and banana pudding. As for drinks, they do have a soda machine, otherwise it's water. Their three meat plate will run you about $30, but you get some very healthy side portions, a full link of sausage, two ribs, and some brisket. I have to admit I was surprised how good the sides were, from the creamy coleslaw to the beans mixed with brisket to the creamy potato salad. The sausage links were meaty and cheesy and brisket was wonderfully moist and flavorful. The ribs were perfectly smoked and the meat fell off the bone. For another $40 you can add one of their beef ribs which are a meal in itself. Five stars for all the grub, but I have to subtract half a star for poor location, inadequate parking, outdoor bathroom, lack of seating, no alcoholic beverages sold (although they were handing out free cans of Lonestar) and no AC. This is definitely some of the best barbecue you'll find in Brenham, or for that matter anywhere else, and worthy of a return trip. Yum! I've been to Truth BBQ in Houston several times, but it was my 1st time at this location in Brenham. They have a small parking lot up front but extra parking in back. It's WAY smaller inside, but so worth the wait! The line moved briskly, which was fantastic because I was starving! I ordered the 2-meat plate with brisket and ribs. For my two sides, I ordered the mac n cheese and tater tot cheesy casserole. Oh! And I ordered the banana pudding too. We had to sit outside because there is limited sitting space inside. The day was lovely. Clear skies and cool, so it worked out. My food was so delicious! I especially loved the mouthwatering ribs. Service, well after waiting in line for 45 min you'd expect a better experience. My son said "mom they were kinda rude". I don't think I'd agree 100% but it definitely wasn't welcoming. Then you move to checkout, again, not very welcoming. And don't come in asking for additional sauces unless you want to wait, again! Ambiance was ok, two tables inside, lots outside.
