Brenham location: Food was like any other BBQ place I've been to. Good, but nothing more. Loved the tater tot casserole and Mac-n-cheese! Bbq beans were good and so was broccoli cheese casserole. Coleslaw, nah. Regular brisket very dry, moist brisket better but still leaning on dry side. Pork ribs taste decent, but not over the top. Service, well after waiting in line for 45 min you'd expect a better experience. My son said "mom they were kinda rude". I don't think I'd agree 100% but it definitely wasn't welcoming. Then you move to checkout, again, not very welcoming. And don't come in asking for additional sauces unless you want to wait, again! Ambiance was ok, two tables inside, lots outside. Water & ice cold beers available while you wait! Plenty of parking, and there's also a tree outside that provides shade thank goodness. Pro tip y'all, if you can, grab an umbrella for the line. We waited roughly an hour & half in line. When you get inside, everyone is warm friendly, nobody is in a rush. Small space inside, with a few tables, maybe two small groups can fit. Plenty of outdoor seating of course. Lots of folks just make friendly convo while waiting, and you really just get a big appetite ya know. We got a Texas Trinity, which comes with sausage, ribs, brisket. The sides are bomb, bbq is excellent. Tots & collard greens were my favorite side. I was put off by the family ordering in front of us because they had 20 minutes to study the menu and still had to ask a dozen questions! "What are collard greens? So trying to find somewhere open on a Sunday and during labor day weekend was quite a challenge for us and we landed here. Thankfully we landed here not a minute later (around 1ish) as many people point out its hit or miss and when you miss, well you miss. We walked in with being one of the last three customers of the day. Obviously this meant our options were limited but let me tell you I don't mind all the public before me making the choices of what I was left with. Chopped brisket, house sausage, and jalapeno cheddar sausage, with sides of mac n cheese, cornbread pudding, pinto beans, and tot casserole all comes together with some golden hued butter bread. (3 meat & 1 meat plates were enough to feed 3 adults and 2 kids and still were beyond full). My kids not complaining and eating everything given to them is a testament to the food, it was delicious. Parking is limited, plenty of seating outside, not so much inside I counted 2 large tables which could be ultimately 4 tables or 3 given the rearrangement possibilities. Free beer or water while you wait, they only allowed 6 deep in line inside at a time. Glad we found this spot and again arrived when we did! Been to the Houston location a few times. It is a large modern space with a parking lot out front. During the week there is a line but it seems to go pretty fast- 30-45 minutes. May be hard to do if you need to get back to work. But I see a lot of people pre- order take out. The brisket and ribs are juicy and tender. Loved the brisket boudin. The sides I enjoyed are the corn pudding and tater tot casserole both had a creamy cheesy goodness that I love. There is a dessert case with cakes and pudding. I've always wanted to compare Truth to Nathan's but since I love Nathan's so much I never went to Truth. Now I've been to Truth and can say that to my taste Nathan's is much much better! The ribs were very smokey and although just a tad over still had a good bite. I can do much better on my grill. The brisket was very good but far from great. Good smoke ring but a tad too well done for my taste. $48 for lunch and still hungry. Nathan's is not cheap either buy I've never left hungry and usually have some meat to take home. WOW! Went today and was a bit skeptical but This is the best value bbq of all times! The Trinity is exceptional value! You won't find this much quality bbq at this price. Also The 2 sides were massive and this menu item served 4 or more people easily! I'm a a huge fan of Terry blacks bbq! But I was highly impressed by this! The brisket is super tender and delish! Loved the casual but cool Texas bbq vibe, the helpful customer service, the freshly pickled veggies that are served on the side, and the thick hunks of perfectly barbecued meat. Also, the complimentary can of ice-cold beer that you're invited to help yourself to from a cooler as you wait on a hot Texas day is an excellent touch that takes this place over the top. Their side dishes are excellent, and I love that everything is served on a tray lined with parchment paper - a fun presentation of delicious food! Everything we had was delicious. I always see Truth BBQ when passing through town and there is almost always a line and I'm usually in a hurry to get somewhere and can't stop. I'm so glad I finally took the time to stop! They were out of a few meats by 1:30pm, but I was just glad they had some left! I ordered a 3 meat plate of double chopped brisket and spicy sausage. The sausage wasn't as spicy as anticipated, which I enjoyed. It was very flavorful and the brisket was rich. The best part was topping the gooey Mac n cheese with the chopped brisket. The potato salad deserves a mention too. Not to mention the three guys working the counter were personable and when one told us "oh there's also free beer in the cooler outside" I responded with "is this a trap?" But nope... free Lonestar beer to enjoy alongside your bbq. There isn't a big space to eat inside, so if it's cold or hot outside be prepared! Lastly, their cakes!!! One of my favorite things about Texas is BBQ, and one of my favorite BBQ spots is Truth. I would plan my drives between Austin & Houston so I could arrive there just about time for them to open for the day. All the meats are excellent and they just happen to have the worlds greatest side dish called "corn pudding". A combination corn casserole and dressing (stuffing) dish that is to die for. This was my very first experience having Texas barbecue. The brisket hit all of my tastebuds, even the one I didn't know I had. The brisket literally made my mouth water as I was eating it. Not to mention, all of the sides were perfect on top of having the amazing brisket. This was the first brisket I've had that tasted worse with barbecue sauce. The carrot cake at the end was the cherry on top of a spectacular meal. It is pricey, and you have to wait for it, but it is worth every penny. There is a huge disparity from what I sampled from their booth at the TM Monthly BBQ fest and their Brenham location. At the festival, their brisket was so tender, I could barely pick it up; I quickly went back for seconds! I noticed they were ranked #3 in TM Monthly but noticed that the magazine specifically referred to their Houston location, which I thought was odd. I figured their Brenham location could not be that different, right? I have yet to try the Houston location but the brisket I was served up here just did not compare to what they served at the festival. It's great for Texas standards but almost mediocre for a top ten joint. With so many places stepping up their bbq game throughout Texas, I can't justify spending an hour in line in the hot sun for just pretty decent BBQ. read more

This has no right being this good located in HEB grocery store. Typically you get a fastfood or pop up type food, but for whatever reason HEB put a ACTUAL REAL BBQ restaurant. All I can say is THANK YOU‼ Now, I just hope my wife sends me a text to pick up a few things as an excuse to eat me some of that Q. The Q is not some over processed multi-chain BBQ slop neither. There were water and Lone Star beer while waiting. Thank God it wasn't raining too. We had the last beef rib as it's only available on Sat. It was a bit dry. Pork ribs were good but cold. Briskets were a bit dry as well . Both tater casserole and corn pudding were ok. They served potato bread and gave some home made picked and onions. Omg! The corn pudding. It was every bit as good as people said. The brisket was nicely cooked, but a tad salty to me. Not that it stopped me from eating and enjoying the meal. I was aghast at the prices, but it was a generous amount of food--enough that, if you didn't want to be stuffed, two could get an extra side and split a meal. Nice touch having water and free beer outside for people waiting in that line. The thing that pushed my ranking from 4 to 5 stars is the service. Very nice servers. I was behind a lady who ordered a little bit of everything (for a tasting, for son's wedding). It was taking a while to get rung up. A server came over and took my meat away. Seating inside is very limited. Outside has a number of picnic tables covered by umbrellas or a roof. No alcohol is served. Variety of soft drinks.
