07/21/2018 While searching for places to stop during a food trip from Houston to Austin, the Truth BBQ came up multiple times and is highly recommended. Parking is limited. Several cars are parked on the roadside. At 1120am, there's already a twenty minute line outside the small BBQ building. They provide free cold water bottles and beer while waiting in line. Eating area: They only have 3 tables inside but several tables outside, big enough to accommodate 8-10 people each. Food: Brisket is very moist and tender. Pork ribs are ok, nothing exceptional about them. Beef ribs are only available on Saturdays. The mac and cheese is very creamy and cheesy (just the way my boys like them). Based on flavor, texture and tenderness of the brisket and pork ribs, this BBQ joint is so much better than Salt Lick. I completely agree with all the 5 star ratings on Yelp. read more

This was our first stop in Brenham on our 1-Night getaway from Houston and it was super tasty. (A bit much to have after our morning bagel, but when in Texas there's always a moral obligation to try the local BBQ! We both found the pulled pork, ribs, and brisket to be tasty but a bit on the peppery side. The pulled pork was juicy and the ribs did fall off the bone, but we both felt that the brisket was a bit on the drier side. (Perhaps due to a less fatty cut). The sauce was also a bit on the sweet side for the both of us I did really love the corn pudding and the potato salad is a staple must-have. read more

Make sure you are prepared to wait if you come here. Tip: bring a chair and make sure your phone is fully charged. We waited at least an hour and a half outside in the sun. They do offer cold water and free beer, yes, I said FREE BEER while you wait. I'm the kind of person that hates standing in line and waiting for things, but I can honestly say the food was worth it! The brisket was smoked to perfection, the mac & cheese was creamy, and the potato salad was a nice addition with my brisket. The bbq sauce had a tangy flavor. A small part of me thinks I can out eat most men and women when it comes to beef. So when we drove through Brenham one day, off a recommendation from a friend, we had to stop here. We got in line about 15-20 minutes early and there was already around 8-9 barbeque lovers in line. After the doors opened (the max capacity of the actually shop is around 8 people!), it only took about 5 minutes until we got in. Talk about speedy service! You're greeted by a huge blackboard with a selection of the finest meats and sides ever to hit town. The fiancé and I ordered 1/4 lb fatty brisket, 1/4 lb sausage, and 1/4 pulled pork to share. The sausage was my absolute favorite - the flavor seriously bursts in your mouth and leaves you salivating for more. The fatty brisket is, as the name implies, super juicy and oh so tender. I now know what "melt in your mouth" means. And the pulled pork is smoked perfectly, with a savory flavor deep enough to make your taste buds cry. We topped off our meats with a few sides: a corn pudding, cole slaw, and a tater tot casserole. The tater tot casserole and corn pudding stood out the most to me - they were dancing with flavor and complimented the meats well. Oh, and did I mention that their barbeque is so good that the sauce really is an afterthought? Seriously incredible. Overall, one of the best, if not the best, BBQ I've ever had in life. Hands down. The BBQ is legit and people know it. We arrived about 20 minutes before it opened and there was already a short line with about 9 people who brought chairs to sit on while they wait. Right before it opened, the line was pretty long and parking was crowded. Enough said? The brisket is pretty darn good and so was the pulled pork. After one bite, you'll realize there's a next level to BBQ. The meat is very tender and tasted like true Texas BBQ. A major plus too were the side dishes. The corn pudding and tator-tot casserole were amazing. They came out hot and were delicious. This is definitely a place you'll want to check out if you are traveling between Houston and Austin. Okay, we have been trying to get to Truth BBQ for quite sometime to give it a try. I must say, we should have tried it sooner. The moist brisket is as close to Franklin's as you can get, without being Franklin's. It was some incredible brisket, probably the second best I have had, and just a tenth from Franklin's. The pork ribs were just as incredible, again, just a tenth from Franklin's. They just fell off the bone, really good. The turkey was pretty good and the sausage was also. If you don't want to wait in a line for five hours or so (Franklin's), this is the place to go. Great BBQ, and maybe a 30 minute wait. This is a definite must go to for BBQ lovers. read more

Even with a 45 min wait on a Sunday morning right at opening, i still rate this place a 5. Cute set up with a great outdoor space. Inside space is small with two tables and order counter. The guys presented the meet plates beautifully which may have been why it took so long. But everything was worth the wait. The man in front of us drives from Katy to Brenham each week to stock up on their barbecue. And while you wait in line, there is a cooler of FREE Lonestar beer and water to keep you cool. I heard that once they run out for the day, they close so get there early so you can sample it all. That's what we did and every thing from the sausage to the brisket, to the Turkey to the sides like corn pudding (don't knock it till you try it), collard greens or Tater Tot casserole to even the pickles and sauce - all of it was delicious! They also had barbecue half chickens and brisket boudin link. The pork ribs were my favorite. EVER! For something sweet, they have different three layer cakes to choose from and when you order a slice you get like a fifth of the entire cake ! This place is DEE-LISH! Blink and you'll miss it while driving down 290. We went on a Saturday and encountered a small line but it moved pretty fast. They limit the inside of the restaurant to 8 people in line and that's why the line queues up fast outside. BUT, they offer free beer to those waiting in line (21 and up). The bulk of the seating is outdoors, but there are two tables for 6 inside. We have been slowly making our way through the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ joints and finally made it the Truth BBQ! We ordered the 3 meat plate (brisket, mild sausage and pork ribs) with Mac and cheese and the cornbread pudding. Amazing! The brisket and pork ribs are definite standouts! The meat fell right off the bone on the pork rib...it was that tender. These sides were also top notch. I was with the kids so we picked more kid friendly options but the collard greens looked amazing. They ha e dessert options too. Think 3 layer cake of numerous flavors. I've been here 4 times now in the past 2 months or so and I've got to hand it to the guys, they absolutely crush it every day. They are consistent beyond belief and they've offered the same quality every week. The brisket is unequivocally top tier and is truly something special. EVERYTIME it is always wonderful. (A+) The jalapeño cheese link is probably the best of its kind I've had. It's made in house and has a good grain, seasoning, and fat content. (A) The pork ribs I had this past visit were a bit better than last visits because they brought in a higher quality rib for that service. (A) The turkey is good as well. (A-) The corn Pudding and mac are my go to. The pickles and onions are homemade and give the meal a nice stark contrast from all the savory meats. Truth BBQ got my attention when I noticed it was ranked 10th by Texas Monthly last year and the fact that it's in Brenham which is about an hour drive from where I live in Houston. I bookmarked it and after several months finally made it there for lunch last Saturday. I arrived at 11:05 a.m. and found a line of about 30 people waiting outside. The only parking available at that time was off the shoulder of Hwy 290 right in front of the restaurant. The weather was very pleasant that day so waiting in line wasn't bad even though we had no cover or shade. They offer free beer/drinks out of a cooler with donations being accepted. On the front door of the small building is a sign that says that only 8 people are allowed inside at a time and to keep the door shut. While my time in line passed quickly due to conversation it was actually 1 hour for me to get inside and place my order. That's because they wait on one customer at a time and complete the order before moving to the next customer. My order was a two meat plate of moist brisket and turkey with sides of baked beans and corn pudding (which several people in line highly recommended). They also had several large 3 layer cakes for sale by the slice for $6 and they looked awesome but I skipped their calories. There are two tables inside for dining (along with a self serve drink machine) but with the small interior and 8 people waiting to order left very little elbow room so I went outside to eat. There they have several tables with most of them covered to eat along with squirt bottles of bbq sauce and napkins. The brisket was excellent with a melt in your mouth consistency and great flavor and a nice rub. The turkey was moist and excellent too. Both meats were as good as I have ever had. When you get to this level of quality I can't tell who is best but these were definitely in my top tier. The baked beans were sweet but not too sweet and I really liked them and the corn pudding was as advertised and excellent too. The meats and sides were quality enough for me to give this meal a 5. I can see why Texas Monthly rated it so high and look forward to them opening up their next outpost in Houston sometime later this year. If they can replicate this quality they will do very well in Houston. If you come here to eat I recommend arriving before 11 a.m. to get in a shorter line and also take into consideration the weather because you are most likely going to eat outside. However, I noticed many people getting their food to go so I assume they were locals. Counter service was very friendly. These guys know what they are doing and that's The Truth! read more

Where do I start? The trek from Austin was worth it. Getting there around noon was still busy, but worth the wait. There's water outside and only 4 or so people allowed in building when ordering. I understand they don't want crowds, but it was interesting to say the least. Inside there's two tables which will fit about 4 adults each. Didn't make sense with their only 4 people inside sign, but wasn't my place to ask that question. The staff inside was friendly and helpful. The three of us split the variety plate and ordered a bunch of sides to choose from. The corn pudding is by far my favorite. The Mac and cheese had bacon and extra cheddar, the collard greens were cooked well and not soggy, and the beans were also delicious but weren't corn pudding. The brisket was so delicious. The ribs and 3 different sausages were flavorful and didn't need the bbq sauce on the tables but the sauce was equally delicious. Cakes/slices are for sale as are the sauces. At a price of about 37.00 each or 142.00 bucks a Family of 4 adults shared a lb each of Brisket, sausage, Pork ribs 3 sides Mac & cheese Brussels sprouts and corn puddings and a Beef Rib and drinks. We arrived at 9:30 on Saturday there were 2 tables inside with 4 chairs we were able to grab a table inside to eat with a steady line of folk with either free beer or water in their hands placing and leaving with their orders next to us. They had some great blues music piped in. The BBQ was good I recommend the sausage they had several kinds and they were awesome. Easy to see they prize putting out good food and not so much on creature comforts. If I lived in town I might go by once a month for the sausage. But it would be awful hard to know if there was a table free to eat in the cool. read more

Fantastic! The brisket point and flat were cooked perfectly, including the mild crust on the burnt ends that just melted in my mouth. Very delicious. The ribs also were cooked well, with excellent pork and smoke flavor. Great work by the pit master! The MacnCheese, beans and coleslaw were also very good. I don't recommend the triple chocolate "Brookie", however. It was dry and crumbly with a mediocre flavor, and not worth the price. Speaking of not worth the price; a baseball cap with advertising on it for the restaurant isn't worth $30 to me, even if it is a nice hat. Please bring it down to a more reasonable $20 and I'll buy one. For reference, I think this Truth location was even better than my experience with the very good Truth store in Houston that I gave 4 stars. read more

The sausage was outstanding as well. We also had pork spareribs which were great, but definitely not the best I've ever had. Third time here. First time I was alone and dove head first into the 3 meat plate - pork ribs, jalapeño cheddar sausage and brisket plus corn casserole and tater tot casserole. Second time, my son and I were too late for even scraps at about 145. Third time - my son and I made it! He declared the brisket the best he's ever had due to the bark. He didn't love the pork ribs - good but not life changing. He gave high marks to the regular sausage. I went for the turkey, brisket and ribs and the potatoes and corn again. For me, the brisket was better than the first time I went, the ribs were not quite as good but still above par and the turkey was heavenly. A sort of hit or miss experience that can provide some delicious bites or some mediocre ones. I wouldn't say no if I was in the area, but I also wouldn't make the trip for it. The brisket: I had two pieces of brisket together. The first piece was very tough and dry and if that had been my only piece I would have been very disappointed. The second piece was the total opposite. It was moist and packed with flavor. Because of the coin toss I can't really say it was above average barbecue though. The other things: I was not a huge fan of the sauce, but the mustard was an excellent pairing to their super cheesy jalapeno sausage. I also really enjoyed the collard greens. I was disappointed by the very skimpy portion of pickles and other related items. Maybe it's because of the pandemic so they don't let you get your own, but the person who put it on my platter gave me like two pickle slices for a three meat plate. My grandparents live in Brenham and they wanted to show us this place. We swung by about a year ago and this is probably my number 1 place for BBQ ever. If you're driving down the Highway, you need to stop here, lines a little long, but the people are great and the food is for sure worth it. Unique little place with some picnic tables on the outside. Standout barbecue, delicious sides and huge cakes if you save room. Truth looks like a little road side BBQ joint that is just getting along with a modest building. When I stepped in I heard the sweet sounds of Mississippi blues and beautiful smell of heavily seasoned meet. It felt real and it is. The older building has lots of antique looking stuff but doesn't look like they are trying too hard. The staff are all very welcoming and polite without the goofy egos some of these top BBQ places have. Seems a little odd to notice and say but everyone working here were really nice looking too. I know the purists base BBQ solely on brisket but they were out. I wasn't deterred and ordered chopped meat and chopped pork to go. This is a beautiful thing.... The pit boss took two massive handfuls with his rubber gloves, squeezed out the grease and mixed in some sauce. This meat was seasoned so perfectly and was chopped chunks. I asked for one of the buns they have which are worth the trip alone and he piled that huge chunk of meat on the bun. I ate the entire sandwich, couldn't stop, it was soooo good.
