Ordered a 3 meat plate got my food pretty quickly brung my food home 7 minute drive to realized this place might actually have the worst BBQ in Texas. The brisket had no flavor along with no smoke ring or barely any bark on the meat. The sausage links tasted off and also had no smoke flavor; they may have been boiled. The ribs were average at best and needed BBQ sauce to elevate them. Mac and cheese was decent, and so were the green beans, which were probably the best thing on the plate. Me and My husband were greeted my Carissa. She had such a welcoming smile and gave us time to look over the menu. She gave us the run down and helped us decide what to order since it was our first time visiting. We ordered a two meat platter consisting of sausage and brisket, added a third meat bbq chicken. We also were given 2 delicious sides, Cole slaw and green beans. The green beans were seasoned just right. All the bbq meat was tender and seasoned to perfection. The brisket even teased us with a little burnt ends. The star of this meal was definitely the brisket Mac and cheese. The Mac n cheese alone was delicious decorated with a few slices of smoked sausage but as you dig down into the Mac and cheese cup, brisket heaven erupts! I just know that I will be craving brisket Mac and cheese for weeks to come! It's enough for two people or multiple servings. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. We dined in. There was a steady flow of customers and I know why. Great service and delicious food! I'm not sure what the first class part is. I got the one meat one side plate. Meat: moist brisket Side: potato salad. $10 not including drink which was $2.75. They should have asked if I wanted lean or artery clogging fatty rather than the word "moist". Half my meat was inedible fat. Potato salad was okay but nothing to brag about. Only condiments were a few pickles and a sliver of onion. No slice of bread or anything like that. Place is pretty run down BUT they have trophies on display on the floor and a few banners touting their accolades in BBQ cuisine. I don't know, maybe the bar is this dives saving grace. As far as service, the teenager at the register doesn't greet you when you enter and stares at you until you say, "I'm ready to order". I met a longtime friend at this place due to the good reviews. I read about the great ribs, brisket and mac n cheese so I was really looking forward to it. I ordered the two meat plate with a side. I asked for chicken and ribs with a side of mac n cheese. The lady said they were out of mac n cheese so I asked for the beans and ordered tea as my drink. Our plates came out quick but mine had brisket and chicken. The brisket looked like a blob of fat too. They gave me the ribs and left the brisket. I went to get my unsweetened tea and started looking for sweeteners but didn't see any. I asked the young girl behind the counter where it was and she said they didn't have any at all. What kind of restaurant, especially a bbq place, doesn't have sweeteners? I started to eat the brisket and it really was a blob of fat. I tried to find some good meat and found just a little that was eatable. The bone pulled right out of the ribs and they were very meaty. The chicken and beans were good and tasty which is why I gave the 3 stars. Overall, not impressed and don't feel like it was worth the 40 minute drive. With that said, I'd still like to try the mac n cheese and the ribs and chicken were good but not sure I'll be going back. Very Veteran friendly! Some of the top tasting pork ribs I've ever had in my life for sure. No sauce needed on them at all. They are tender, very flavorful, and just the perfect texture. First class BBQ was our favor place for a good ribs for years, juice, tender, the flavor was wonderful, however our last two experience was not as expected, ribs supposed smoked but it was dry and burnt, the meat was overly salty, the way it was cooked was not like Robert Smith style. The seasoning is not the same as it was before, the way prepared ruined a perfect piece meat. Out on a day trip with my wife to check out the bluebonnets in and around Brenham. Stopped here because reviews were good and we like to try different bbq places. I ordered chicken since I can't eat beef. Oops out of chicken so I order 3 sides. My wife had the 2 meat brisket and sausage and one side plate. Get order and we are short one side of Mac and cheese. I tell young lady behind counter and she tells me I got what I ordered. " No I'm short one Mac and cheese." Again she tells me I got what I ordered. "I need one more Mac and cheese," I tell her. She tells me I only ordered two sides. Luckily I kept original receipt which showed one plate which comes with a side and 3 sides. She still argues for a moment and then tells me they are out of mac and cheese. "Then give potato salad," I said. She starts to argue again but finally did give the potato salad. It was ironic that another customer ahead of had to argue about getting shorted on a side on a to go order. Food was Luke warm and nothing to brag about. I did try a small bite of my wife's food and found to be typical run of the mill brisket, sausage, and sauce with way too much smoke flavor. Lacked flavor and what flavor it did have was from the ends which was only one of 2 slices the other slice had zero bark ends. The sausage was good. I've been hearing so many great things about this place so I had to try it. I am a war veteran who is now in my PhD at Prairie View A&M University and I appreciate a good meal especially when I'm studying. So my cousin brought me here and we had the fired up Trio specialty sandwich. I have to admit hands down, it is the best sandwich I've ever had! Everything about it was super amazing. The brisket was loose cut, flavorful, and had the right amount of meat to fat ratio, the ribs were deliciously seasoned and tender, and instead of getting the chicken, I got sausage. It was so divine I had to come back and get more! even as I write this review right now I'm getting hungrier and hungrier to have more! No, I didn't get a chance to try the mac & cheese because they sold out however, I will get a full pan of it tomorrow!!!! Even the barbecue sauce was good. Stopped by after going to nearby safari. Granted it was during pandemic and about 1:00pm, they were sold out of almost everything except chopped beef and ribs, potato salad and cole slaw. So that's what we got. The ribs were slathered in a somewhat sweet sauce. In my opinion, good ribs don't even need sauce. Especially not as much was put on these. And they were extremely salty. Potato salad was really mayonnaise-y and I like mayo but it didn't taste like much else. Cole slaw was decent. The chopped beef was also really heavy on the bbq sauce and super salt. A 70 year old native Texan and life long BBQ fan I was delighted to discover 1st Class BBQ in Hempstead yesterday. Driving the back roads back to Dallas from Katy bet I passed 15 BBQ places, spotted 1st Class BBQ and decided to give them a try. 1st Class BBQ is really 1st class tasting BBQ. I noticed they did BBQ competitions and decided on a 3 meat plate of sliced brisket, ribs and sausage to see how they fared. The brisket was tender and the bark was very tasty. Sausage is sausage in most places but their's was very good. The ribs are full pork ribs with the tips and in most places are way too fatty but not here. The ribs were excellent and using with the competition bite test had a perfect bite and great flavor. Intentionally used very little BBQ sauce to really taste the meat and wasn't disappointed. Small inside air conditioned dining room with covered pick-nick tables out side, friendly staff and great food. Too bad I live in Dallas or I would make 1st Class BBQ a frequent stop. Will definitely go through Hempstead on my next trip to Houston. read more
