Stopped on our road trip to have a bite. Big Mo served us and it was the best chopped beef sandwich I've ever had. So tender and juicy I didn't even add the BBQ sauce. Huge portions and great prices. Moe gets up and starts the meat between midnight and 3 am and they are only open from 11am - 6 pm (or until he runs out of meat!) My husband and I, along with three friends, attended a funeral in Caldwell. It was over around lunchtime so we started looking for a place to eat outside (Covid 19). We found Moe's in neighboring Sommerville. There was no outside seating, but the tables were set far apart. We decided to try it. We were surely glad we did. We had the Big Moe Special pork sandwiches and also in beef. We were amazed at how delicious they all were. The restaurant is a tiny whole in the wall place, very rustic with precious décor. Moe was delightful as was Nolan! I certainly recommend Moe's place because it was some of the best barbeque I've ever eaten! Just a fun experience all around! read more

We were driving through Somerville hoping to find a good local BBQ place. We saw Moe's and stopped. BEST decision this week!! I normally do not get brisket, but the brisket sandwich was so tender and so flavorful I finished the whole thing. As sides, the beans and Mac n cheese were great- but the potato salad was so so so delicious. My wife & I had a 1/2 Chicken Dinner & a Sausage & Brisket Dinner both w Beans & potato salad. All the meats were the right amount of smoke and were all moist with excellent hickory & oak flavor. The only negatives were no iced drinks, not much room for sitting, but was adequate. He also gave me a pork rib that was glazed sweet and came off the bone with little effort! Wow. Took a drive from College Station to see the lake, and fell upon this very small building called Moe's BBQ. It. Was. Phenomenal. We walked in around 5:30 on a Saturday and they were out of all their meat except for a slab of ribs. We grabbed a plate of them with some sides and I had the BEST BARBEQUE experience of my life. The meat slid off the bones, the green beans were seasoned perfectly (not too much bacon or salt,) and the potato salad was decent. Will definitely drive the 30 minutes out here again - so worth it. read more

Saw this place as we passed by to stay on lake Somerville. Stopped in the next day. Got some brisket, sausage, and chicken to try out and take back to camp site. All 3 were delicious! Totally stumbled upon this jewel traveling back roads to Houston on Hwy 36 in lieu of State Hwy 6. AMAZING!. Food was wonderful, service top notch, clean clean clean. I had a sausage wrap with in house smoked sausage and hubby had a two meat plate with brisket and sausage. Neither of us left hungry, or had one thing negative to say. Have eaten BBQ at several locations (won't mention the big billboard joints by name) along 290/36 between Houston and Caldwell.....hands down Big Moe's ribs are the clear winner!! Picked up the bone and the meat stayed on the plate, dry rubbed no sauce needed. Grandson had the chopped brisket sandwich and said it was as good or better than any he has eaten. Moe knows bbq! I dont like many because you have to pick through fat, bones, tough and or undercooked meat! Both the brisket and ribs were sooo good and tender, I did not care about the fat I could not taste, and could chew straight through the bones! Definitely a must for bbq lovers. Not that it needed it, but the sauce.... mmmmh! Is original and worth the buy to try and replicate his bbq recipes at home. Just left Moe's BBQ. Was totally disatisfied with the experience and the food. The meat was fatty, and cold. The prices were outrageous! We were given a sample of the marbled brisket. He handed in to us with his gloved hand. No plate! They were stingy with the BBQ sauce, which was watered down. No restrooms!! And dirt and grease on the air conditioner, which is near the food. Will never go there again!! The only reason they got one star is because I can't write a review with no stars, they don't really deserve even one star. read more

We went to Moes about a month ago and had the BEST barbecue we had ever tasted. We meant to go sooner, but our schedules we such that we didn't make it back til today. The barbecue tasted NOTHING like the first time. Bland and dry. The sauce was watered down and the entire meal was so disappointing. We probably would have given it one more try until we saw the filth behind the counter. The sink was overflowing with dirty dishes, portions of meat, nasty foil and other things that looked disgusting. The worst thing was when they went to scoop up our sides, the server reached in a sink filled with dirty water to use that scooper to scoop our food. It was obvious that the water in that sink had been there awhile because it was grey!!! Our female server was VERY rude to top it all off. So disgusting! I will say that our first visit was very pleasant. Not only was the food unbelievable , we met Moe and he was delightful. On this second visit, Moe wasn't there, and I would hope that he would not condone their behaviors. I'm sorry Moe. We will not return and recommend all of our friends to do the same. read more
