It's very country looking, so that was appealing. We started with the fried pickles for an appetizer to share. Our group was a party of 3. The pickles were a perfect split for us. The ranch served with the pickles had a tartar sauce undertone taste. It was pretty good. We all had the sweet tea and lemonade mix. It was refreshing. I ordered the regular JW's burger on a classic white bun. The burger was okay. There was no special seasoning to it. I wasn't able to order it medium. From the looks of it, it was "done", so that is a little too done for me. I like mine a little pink. They use leaf lettuce. I prefer shredded. The pickles on my burger were cut lengthwise, and 2 of the strips still had the outer skin on them. Not a fan of that. The fries were good. They had a nice crunch to them. The service was great at JW's. Our drinks were never empty, the food came out fast, and our waitress was very nice. You can't get better than country service. It was a nice change from Houston where everything is hustle and bustle. We all three split a piece of coconut pie. It was okay, but to be fair, I am not a pie person. My coworkers thought it was terrific. If I am out that way again and decide to stop in, I will order something different. Maybe the chicken fried steak. The neighboring table ordered it and it looked good! Our bill for the 3 of us was $71 and some change before tip. That seems on point for 1 appetizer, 3 drinks, 3 entrees, and 1 piece of pie. It was crowded, especially for a weekday after the lunch rush in the country, so they must be doing something right.

BEST.STEAK.EVER. One…read moreof the most delicious meals I've ever had. Started with a simple little lettuce salad with dressing, accompanied by crackers with whipped butter!! Then the garlic mash potatoes and PERFECTLY cooked 10 oz sirloin came out. The steaks were cooked exactly to order. They had a pristine flavor, and the meat just melted in my mouth. The yeast roll looked like a roll but it was pretty heavenly too, especially with the steak drippings. Our server was super sweet and helpful! And the quaint "general store" is for locals and visitors alike!! Awesome steak night --perfect for a date night! Pass on dessert! Stick with best stuff! Pecan cobbler and peach cobbler were overly sweet! But they did come with a scoop Of vanilla ice cream on top!

This time I was able to arrange to be here on a Saturday expressly to visit Leona. It was a 2 hour drive down from Dallas but hey, it's an adventure! I was not disappointed. I got there about an hour before they opened and there were 30-40 people in line already. I grabbed a spot on one of the benches that line the porch and watched more people pouring in. Over the next hour the line got longer and longer. I definitely got there none too soon. At opening time the nice lady came out and started bringing in each party one at a time. It moves fast and I was seated pretty quickly. The place is pretty huge so they seat a lot of people at a time. Judy Lee was my very sweet server and she kept me checked on and my tea glass full the whole time The "salad bar" is pretty simple. Just lettuce with a few tomatoes and the obviously homemade dressings. There is also slaw which was VERY good. The steak came with a scoop of mashed potatoes and a yeast roll. The streak is definitely the star of the show. The standard size is 10 oz with the option to add additional oz's. I opted for a 14 oz version which was probably closer to 20. They don't cut you short by any means. I have to say that this was one of the best and most perfectly cooked steaks I have ever had. I have had my share of prime restaurant steaks and this rivaled them all. Juicy, tender and perfectly cooked. It had the largest rib cap of any steak I have ever seen. Simply delicious. A 4 hour round trip for dinner might be a bit much but really worth it for the experience. If I find myself somewhere a little closer I'll be doing it again.

It didn't look like much, so I thought a Chicken Fried Steak was the safest bet. I got a large and my wife got a small. It came with two sides, so we both got their salad bar and mashed potatoes. I also have not seen my waitress since I put in my order that was over an hour ago. I will not be back to this restaurant. If you looking for even some semblance customer service I recommend you keep going, maybe try the pizza place in town they treated us very well last night. It's now an hour and a half the waitress brought the third and final steak but it was missing a side and the side that was on it was wrong. We are also the one of two tables in here. So later I figure I confused the waitress bc I said to add two salads to the order and maybe that's why two sides were missing. She thought I wanted salads for sides. But The rest of the order was still a disaster with absolutely no communication with my waitress. Which I could understand if she was busy but there were two tables in the whole restaurant.

I was trying to pass time to avoid traffic into Houston so I decided to stop in Caldwell to do some boutique shopping. Caldwell has some awesome boutiques FYI!. I was looking for a late lunch/early dinner and decided I wanted some steak. Now this place is by no means fancy but it's definitely hometown feel and obviously a small town staple. I ordered the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Yall 12oz for $26 dollars is an absolute steal. I was worried about the quality due to the price but I was impressed! The meat was good the mashed potatoes tasted sweet though so not a fan of those. But for $26 I wasn't even complaining. Now back to these fried pickle, I text everyone I know "I just found the best fried pickles in Texas" as I scarfed them down. If you are ever passing through you must stop to grab a basket of them. All of this and my total was around $35! The service was efficient and friendly 10/10 recommend!
