March 26, 2023 Stopped by here on my way to Brenham. Picked up a variety $28 I asked the older lady behind the meat counter where their beef and pork came from; she had no clue!!! THAT should have been my first clue...LOL!! Just ate the (small) links: jalapeno/cheese and hot... They were ok, each had a mild kick. Would have liked more flavor to each The huge link from Westphalia meat market in Loft TX that I got grossed me out...it looked gray, had a lot of cheese and was just mushy looking. It tasted like mushy cheese and not beef or pork. The texture was just mush. (the packaging had no info on it either and the counter person didn't know) I threw $15 worth of whatever this was in the trash. I just could NOT get over HOW it looked, the texture or lack of flavor. (wish I would of taken a photo of it cooked...too traumatized! LOL! HEY OWNERS.... DONT buy that anymore! I cooked the beef/pork link..it was good. I cooked the ground chuck...and, the pork breakfast sausage... Both look and taste great. (sighs of relief!) Most people think that Slovacek is from the city of West Texas, but really it started in a small community outside of Bryan / College Station called Snook Texas we're still their sausage products are made and then shipped out to the other locations especially to their beautiful flagship store in West. Now this is probably no surprise to my Texas Aggie friends but for everybody else traveling at the I-35 corridor it probably is news. And please understand, I'm not advocating that you visit their store in Snook since it's basically a blip on the map with one stop sign and a couple of restaurants but every good sausage lover should know the story. read more

I have been using slovaceks in snook for 30 yrs when Tim ran it. In the last few years it's been getting harder to stay. This last time I dropped off 87 lb. Ordered 20 lb burger ,30 lb of gouda and 104 of reg sausage. Was quoted 560.00 and paid 105. Down. When I picked it up I got 20 lb burger, 30 lb gouda and 98 lb of reg sausage. And the price went to 650. Used to be what was quoted is what we got. We all know the sausage is good. At times I have picked up orders at lunch time and the big guy and crew were eating large plates if it. I have now tried broken tine, read fields and there just as good. This sausage is DELICI'O, I cooked the beef & jalapeño cheese Slovacek in a seafood boil or smoked on the grill. I first brought them at nearby Sam's club DFW TEXAS areas. In which they often sold out. I spoke with a employee from the meat department and he said; they no longer carry them bcz Sam's is making a copy of the brand. And sale them for a little less. The Slovacek links used to be the absolutely the best on the market! The last two batches I purchased from H E B were completely different! The links were not as red as the used to be, the skin was really tough and they were extremely greasy! I couldn't believe they were the same links! If your company has permanently changed the recipe you have definitely lost my family and my friends business! Please return to your old recipe! We were looking for some good sausage to cook as part of three meats we were wanting to serve at our daughters wedding. I know of several really good sausage makers based right here in Texas! Giddings has Meyer's and Southside Market, there is Eckermann's in Industry, and Chappell Hill is another well known. All of these places have very good sausage, but after tasting some of Slovacek's from I knew who we were going to use!!! A hunting friend of mine and I had always talked about wanting to find a sausage maker that had a juicy sausage with some snap when you bit into the casing! Kind of like the kind you would get at Carnival or one of the many festival's held around Texas when you buy a Sausage on a stick! Well, this is the one!!! I knew after I heated it up and pulled it out the oven with that first bite I had the one we had talked about for so long!!! We made the drive to Slovacek's in snook, Texas to purchase 30 pounds of their Garlic flavored kielbasa! They also make several other flavors such as Jalapeno and Cheese, Jalapeno and pepper jack which I can say is really good too! I called ahead to make sure I could purchase 30 pounds ahead of time. The very nice lady I talked to assured me that it would be no problem as they always have it on hand and ready to ship out! They have a nice processing facility along with a little country store that offers not only sausage of several varieties, but other items as well. You can get lunch, drinks, gas and many other items here at Slovacek's! They have a very friendly staff that are ready to help you with your needs! We also bought our BBQ sauce here that is very good with not only their sausage, but brisket and chicken as well! They also do deer processing when hunting season rolls around! A few months ago, I dropped off my deer for processing. They processed it and made half of it into Jalapeños Cheese sausage and the other half into Smoked sausage. The taste and texture of both sausages are fantastic. I highly recommend them for all your game processing needs! read more

EXCELLENT customer service! My visit to this place was sentimental. My Grandma is orginally from the area. She passed away last year and is buried in the area. My entire life, I remember her ranting and raving about the sausage from Snook, Texas. To her, this was the best sausage in the world and definitely reminiscent of her childhood in the Snook area. So we went to College Station this past weekend to visit her resting place and decided to get our sausage for our Memorial Day BBQ from here before heading back to Dallas. Again, the customer service is excellent. The people are so helpful and friendly. And the varieties of sausages and cheeses are amazing. We stocked up on the jalapeno sausage, the pork and beef and the standard hot links. All are delicious, but the hot links are something to write home about. I will continue making trips from Dallas to this place for my sausage needs. I refuse to get them from anywhere else from this point forward. read more

This is the worst place I have EVER worked! The pay is horrible for the hours and work you have to do. There is always drama throughout the employees. I had heard of Slovacek Sausage (pronounced Slow VAH cheks) from some friendly business owners in West. When I was driving through College Station and saw the sign for nearby Snook, I thought... hey Slovacek's Sausage is there. Sure, I can drive nine more miles. Seeing taxidermy dressed up for Christmas to me was hilarious. Then i saw the Westphalia Garlic Czech Sausage in the case and thought, ok, that's what I am taking home. I baked it in the oven until I heard the grease pop and checked to make sure it was cooked through. Then I got out a little brown mustard and just enjoyed. It was a little more fatty than I expected and I did encounter a little bit of gristle. The overall taste was phenomenal but the gristle kinda threw me. Four stars. read more

A bizarre setup for a butchers shop but I will take it! I am sure most in the area are aware of Slovacek. They seem to be at all the nearby grocery stores as well as campus sporting events. I stopped by yesterday as I was in the area and decided to replenish the freezer. Pork chops, ribeyes, sausage links, rattlesnake eggs. All looked amazing. Cooked the rattlesnake eggs earlier today and I gotta say those little bastards are tasty. Service was super friendly and efficient. Price was definitely on point for the quality. We have been buying pan sausage here for many years even with us living 120 miles away.very nice people. This time on the way up I called and ending up talking to a young man. He was not the normal customer friendly that they have always been in the past. When I got to the store the two women in the meat counter were very nice and took care of me. The young man said on the phone they were out of sausage and would take 8 hours to get more. When I walked in they had a total new pan full and I ask the lady she said she just made it. The young man did not know what he was talking about and needs to be more friendly like I have always seen in the past. Please take lessons from the two older ladies. After hearing someone say something about the Kolaches in Snook, I knew I had to find it because the donut shop Kolaches in BCS are lacking to say the least. I was hoping it was similar to the Czech Stop in West, Tx and I was happy to discover that it's even more! This place is great! They have meats, bread, kolaches, and pastries all made on site and even have drinks made in Dublin by the former Dr. Pepper bottling plant. Everything taste great and is very reasonably priced. My first time to come here was only a week ago and I have already been back. It's only a short drive from College Station and that coupled with the amazing products they have causes me great fear. Was cooking my weekly Family Dinner Night Dinner for 15 of my family and decided to do a couple of pork rib slabs. Decided to do some sausage as well and picked up a 3 lb pack of Slovacek's BBQ sausage at HEB. Glad that I did, because the sausage was the hit of the evening. We had some sausages left over wonder of wonders, and the wife and I have eaten them at our next 2 meals. Best sausages ever. Going back to get more, and plan a visit to Snook Tx, in the near future. They have really let this place go. No updated open times on website and everything is just thrown together. We drove all the way out to Snook on Sunday morning to get a bunch of kolaches to surprise my mom. Got there and they opened at 8 instead of what the website said and the bakery side was closed. Left empty handed and frustrated. Wish I could go back but I'm not driving out there for that again. I miss the old days. This review is exclusively regarding one of their products in particular, their summer sausage. I purchased it at a local HEB store. The packaging is beautiful (such pretty, lovable pigs!), which promised summer sausage of the highest quality. I am so disappointed in the reality. We have been going to Snook for sausage for years! Never greasy, always meaty and the flavor cannot be beat! We make a trip every year between Thanksgiving and Christmas to buy our bone-in Christmas ham. We then take that bone and do a southern tradition on New Years and make a big pot of black-eyed peas. Just because this is a very small town with a meat market inside of a gas station, try their Tuscan Pork Roll or Stuffed Chicken Breasts...come for the sausage, but leave with a whole lot more.
