We've purchased a variety of brands of sausage. It's like a box of chocolates - you never know what you'll get. The Burton sausage was one I wish we hadn't purchased. It advertises it is natural and no fillers, but was it full of gristle. In our opinion, it was barely edible. Ok. It's a sausage company in Burton Tx. Nothing special but they do sell BBQ in the front. Again nothing special to look at but that BBQ sammich I got was mighty damn tasty. Way better than your bigger places. The storefront could use a little cleaning up and more presentable and the staff could be more welcoming and cheerful. How about advertising by the road but Hey maybe they're just happy the way they are and don't want a big crowd? The road from Austin to Houston is long and fairly boring, but there's a little town called Burton which has some of the best sausage I've ever tasted. Right off the highway (small place, but there's signage), this place is great for a cheap, delicious snack. We got the spicy sausage for ONE DOLLAR apiece! I'm a city boy, myself, and we'd pay a solid $4.95 for that kinda thing here in Seattle. Texas is weird. If you're driving between Austin and Houston and you need some grub, look no further than this fine little place with absolute sweethearts behind the counter serving up some fine Texan meat in many forms. read more

Burton's smoked beef and pork sausage is the BEST we have ever had, ever! It is especially good with our crab boils, or BBQ's. I used to buy it in Randalls but since I can't get it there now, I searched online.. There is a Walmart close by here in Austin that has it, or it can be ordered online I just found out. Whatever I have to do to get this sausage, is worth it. We've tried every other brand when we couldn't get this but nothing comes close. Please come back to my supermarket! Okay, so lots of years have past since my last post. The "Burton Sausage" brand was sold to someone trying to optimize product margins, so prices went up while what they spent on ingredients went down. Don't know where they are now, but the last time I was in Texas and wanted sausage for a catering event, the "new" Burton sausage was not even close to what it had been. I think the family is still there and still produces great sausage, but under some other name (since the rights to "Burton Sausage" were sold). Too bad that people take advantage of a good thing to make it a cheaper, inferior product for their own enrichment... and to the detriment of their customers. If anyone knows where and how to get the "old" Burton Sausage, please post it. Thanks!! read more

Every time I drive from Austin to Houston I bring a small ice chest and stop here for steaks, sausage, and jerky. The place is a slaughterhouse so you know it's fresh and the prices are cheap. From Austin on 290 look for a building on your left on a hill just past Burton which is about 10-15 minutes before you get to Brenham. read more

Sadly, it seems that Burton Sausage has closed. I used to stop here every time I drove from Houston to Austin and always looked forward to stocking up on their sausage, but they closed a year and a half ago and it doesn't look like they'll ever be open again :( read more

This is horrible. I drove all the way from austin to get some jalapeno sausage, only to find out that they closed early and lied about their hours. I came at 5:50, only to find the doors locked despite the smoker running and lights on. The hours today clearly state 9 to 6, but apparently that is not the case. We have enjoyed the BEEF sausage for a very long time now. However, the last two we bought was NOT what we usually get. The last two were nothing more that glorified hotdogs! The texture was that of over ground meat, not the usual coarse meat we always had before. It taste like you also changed the flavor. You had a great produce before. Because of this change, we will no longer buy Burton Sausage. Sorry you lost a customer. read more

Jerky was one of the best on the 290 tour (and spicy too). They have 1/2 and 1 lb bags for sale for only $25/lb. Also a super cool store with nice people and a wide variety of goods. Steaks are also a good price and delicious. Also grabbed me some Jalapeno seasoning and the garlic one. Both are solid spices. read more

Father in-Law drives out to us in Elgin from Houston now and then and brings us pounds of Burton garlic sausage. This stuff is to die for. We have used their processing for deer and beef and they always do a great job! Miss the recipe they use to use before they sold but the new one is good too. The meat is definitely fresh and the place is very clean. I have been in some meat markets that smell horrible but all you smell here is clean and the great scent that their sausages give off. They are very helpful with your order no matter how big or small. Prices could be a little better. read more

I purchased my first package of Burton smoked pork and venison sausage yesterday and we had it for supper last night. The sausage was excellent. Wonderful flavor and texture. However between the two of us we found (bit down on) 3 pieces of bone. One being the size of a pea. We enjoyed our supper but ate the sausage very carefully. I will most definitely purchase it again and realize that things like this can happen. read more
