Ah, the candy store! I love a good butcher shop. So many wonderful items for the grill and table. Readfield is a Bryan/College Station staple offering Prime and Choice grades of beef. I usually buy New York strips, Ribeye Steaks and Brisket. I love looking at all of the cuts in the meat counter. They also have a great selection of sausage. The Jalapeno & cheddar is my favorite! The service is always friendly and the store well stocked. My last trip was for New York strip steaks. I also love their house blended rubs! There's almost nothing you can't find here. They have everything from duck to Turducken. Did I mention the rotisserie chicken or divine homemade pies? Peach & Apple all delicious. Whenever I'm in town, I almost always visit Readfield to make something delicious for the family! read more

I recently visited Readfield Meats & Freezer and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The customer service was unfriendly and unhelpful from the moment I walked in. I had a few basic questions about their products and pricing, and it felt like I was inconveniencing the staff just by asking. There was little effort to explain options or provide recommendations. The store itself also seemed disorganized and not as clean as I would expect from a meat market. The display cases didn't look well-maintained, and some products appeared poorly labeled, making it hard to tell what I was purchasing. On top of that, the pricing didn't reflect the level of quality or service provided. I expected better overall professionalism and attention to detail. Based on this visit, I wouldn't return or recommend it to others unless significant improvements are made in customer service and store upkeep. read more

Used to be a great place. Been shopping there 40+ years. Today was the last time. Got home and realized that on a 10 lb order of skirt steak that I was overcharged almost 50%. Went back to the store and head butcher looked me square in the eye and said that the skirts trimmed off 50%. He's a liar and a thief. Never go back. Too bad. They used to be so daggum good. Love readfield! It's a great go to for meats! We love their bacon wrapped filets-- also their peppered bacon is delicious! We have even done their smoked whole turkey for a Christmas party and people were seriously raving about it! Several people said they don't usually like turkey but they liked this one! It's a great local place to get meat and all sort of things! We also have enjoyed their olive bread-- they often run out but apparently you can call and have them reserve some. This location has a great butcher shop with terrific people and excellent hamburger meat; it's so good that my husband knew at first bite when I served a hamburger pattie from somewhere else. I now only purchase from Readfields. They sell quite a bit at their deli counter, though I don't really shop for deli meat. Readfield's smoked sausage is the best in Texas hands down. Better than Slovacek, better than Kiolbassa, and definitely better than HEB. The taste is good, and it bar-b-ques perfect every time. I also like their beef jerky and summer sausage too. They make the perfect snack. Readfield has been around for many years. It's a tradition in my family; my parents buy meats from here. I have them bring me some smoked sausage every time they come visit me in San Antonio. I've had friends store venison here after a hunting trip, and they even had the butchers make some of it into some fresh venison sausage. Yum. The store out front has a small selection of sauces & rubs, and a few frozen foodservice exotic items-emu, duck,... They have a sausage counter, and a small butcher's meat counter. I came in to get s sandwich and ended up finding a real adventure in eats. I got beautiful pecan halves fresh this year, I also found so many other good items for the near future. The lunch was great ! For 5.99 a huge cup of tea with a sandwich and chips. Any kind of sanwhich and choice of bread. Im going back for some thanksgiving casseroles and I still have a beautiful prime sirloin steak to enjoy. I totally love the place and it's a good thing I'm on a senior budget. Solid meat market with reasonable prices. Many less common proteins that can't be found at grocery store available (lamb, rabbit, duck, frog). House made sausage is just ok. They'll grind up cuts for burger, chili, etc. Big fan of their beef bones to make soups and stocks. My go to meat market. read more

One of my favorite places to shop in town. The quality of meat here is first rate, and if you need something special, the butchers will get it for you. I had them special cut two t-bones for a friend and me, and I can't say enough good things about them. In the freezer section are all manner of things worthy of your attention, such as rabbit, quail, various halal meats, etc. The canned and dried goods have an Italian and Middle eastern bent to them, and there are really interesting things here. The bread is among the best in town...maybe the best in fact. A small but very good selection of wine rounds off the inventory. Almost always busy for a reason. read more

Finally had an opportunity to stop in as I was looking for a pork shank as part of a Czech dinner I was preparing. This is a nice find and more upscale than my local butcher in Weimar, TX (Kasper's Meat Market). A nice selection of meats and an interesting deli of sorts. It is rare that you can buy bacon by the slice or choose the amount of chops, so a great way to get what you want. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The butcher I dealt with has a Czech background and come from the same same Czech area of Texas. We swapped ideas on how to prepare the pork shank and also through in a great Czech red cabbage recipe. Great experience and I'll be back. read more

Pre ordered TWO special cuts for pick up a week out. Person taking order was rude and dismissive, arrived as designated to pick up and watched as my order was sold to the person in front of me. I then was told my order was about to be brought to a register, and so it was, half an hour later, and it was wrong, so back it went for another 30 minutes. Instead of the TWO cuts I ordered, I received one HUGE cut. Reluctant to stand yet another hour, I settled and went to check out. Was quoted $87.42 originally, then 68, then finally, over 100. One apology was given by the actual butcher who also took it upon himself to bring the order to the register and help me out. Very disorganized, no customer service or incentives were given although at that point the lack thereof was definitely not unexpected. Should have called ahead to Briarcrest Kroger's, they will do special cuts and orders. Wish I had known that for this year. Live and learn. read more

In addition to the fresh meat market, Readfield's prepares brown bag deli sandwiches + drink + chips, which are a great deal. They also offer to cryovac items which is the best method for food preservation for freezing (for free!). Making life simple by shopping at Readfield's. I have been able to boycott HEB and other store buy using them and it is so much easier and faster. You don't have to stand in line for 30 minutes to check out and the products that they carry are a much higher grade. I have never gotten anything bad from this store. Meat is always great.
