I want to share our terrible experience today. Not with staff, not with food, but with MANAGEMENT. After placing our order and walking to the table a cover shot of the ice machine as if under pressure nearly hitting my elderly mother. The entire place looked up hearing the metal cover hit the floor. A manager (Hispanic guy) did come over after I reported it and asked if we were okay. No apology. Moments later a female manager came by..not to apologize but to say "those cups are only for water". She was essentially accusing us publicly for stealing tea (after nearly getting hit AND spending $30 for mediocre bbq). I held up my container of Mio telling her "no we did not, I brought my own sugar free additive" The audacity of her to embarrass us like that when we could have potentially sued thier asses had my mother been injured. Solid BBQ overall, but nothing too spectacular. I ordered the beef and rib plate, which comes with two sides (the fried okra was easily my favorite) The brisket (moist and juicy) was better than the ribs, which leaned a bit fatty to me. They have three different sauces to try, including a mustard-based one that was interesting. (I liked being able to control my sauce mixings) There are free white and wheat bread and a good spread of fixings like pickles, onions, and jalapenos. We came in for a late afternoon lunch, (post-lunch rush) and it was super quiet. This was our first meal back in the College Station/Bryan area so it was a pretty easy, low-stress stop. Came here for the first time in several years. I don't go to bbq joints as much as I want to for the sole reason of being too expensive. I'm sure the price for this place is reasonable, just overall expensive in general. Anyways, I ordered the "I want it all" dinner pack which consists of 1/2lb beef, 1/2lb sausage, 1/2lb chicken, 1/2lb ribs, and 2 large OR 4 small sides which we chose the mac n cheese, smothered green beans, corn, and mashed potatoes. I also ordered a side of pork belly and banana pudding. Everything was very flavorful especially the brisket, beef rib, and pork belly. The chicken and sausage were ok. I did a takeout order so my pics don't do this meal justice from that traditional all on one pan bbq presentation look. Overall, it is a delicious and I'm sure reasonably priced joint. Customer service doesn't match the high cost of food this place currently offers. Everytime I ask for lean brisket and fresh fried okra, it's like asking them to chop off their arms. Two things happen they tell a straight NO so now you dont get to eat exactly what you want and are paying for. Two they say yes, but always have a negative attitude about it and okra doesn't take 20 minutes to fry. Honestly a disappointment everytime I come. I ordered the three meat plate. I had pork ribs, sausage, and brisket with greens, green beans, and onions and bbq sauce. The sauce took me back to my childhood I love a mustard based sauce. The brisket was tender and the sausage sliced right and it was tasty. The ribs were all that to me. The greens and green beans delicious. The onions with the greens took me back to how my momma cooked and fixed a plate of greens. All that were missing were sliced tomatoes and some cornbread to sop the pot liquor from the greens. We got the 3 meat platter (ribs, beef, sausage) + half a chicken (they told us we can't get the chicken as part of the combo plate). The sausage was decent but the other meats were pretty dry. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm and there weren't that many ppl in the restaurants. There were also flies buzzing around the tables, which was a bit distracting. I don't like being a hater but GOD DAMN this place really just buns I came back a year later to try and give it a second chance in hopes that maybe they got it together but you ever have a meal so bad you sit there and just laugh? Monday special was a brisket plate which ended up being $17 after tax and tip. Asked for lean brisket with Mac and ranch potatoes. How you charge somebody $17 for cafeteria food. Literally could've went to HEB, sliced up a steak, and threw it in the microwave and got the same quality for half the price. Like bro what is this. Got me gnawing on overcooked erasers and having to drown the taste in a barbecue sauce that's 90% ketchup. Highlight of the meal was the pickles which are honestly just hamburger pickles out a jar and that leaves a lot to be said about the food. I am in NO WAY a professional reviewer. This is our hometown, once a gas station barbecue. They've been doing it since 1981 when they were a filling station on the corner of Harvey and Boonville roads. They have magnificent fat and skinny briskets, turkey, pulled pork, sausage (two kinds), pork belly, pork ribs, chops, and chicken. I love me some BBQ yardbird! Hadn't been to this location but wow it's really great!! they have a massive dining area- the setup is awesome- whoever designed it did a really great job- Customer service is great- everyone was super helpful- love the condiment bar and the options there- The brisket was nice and moist!! which i greatly enjoyed- i also just love how many side options they have- my husband loves the okra in particular. The mac n cheese was pretty good but needed some more salt. The pinto beans needed more salt too but better than having too much so i understand the thought. I look forward to trying more things in the future!!! the medians to get here was a pain but that's not C&Js fault and i know everyone in town have beef with the medians. This is no chain BBQ; it's the real deal Texas BBQ! I am a certified BBQ judge and have eaten a lot of BBQ from different regions. I can say, based on experience that C&J is up there with the big boys of Texas BBQ! And of course, Texas BBQ is king! My whole family went out for a nice dinner at C&J on Memorial Day evening. We were thrilled to see them open and not out of BBQ. We were quickly greeted up front and went on down the line trying to choose from all of the delicious looking meats, sides and desserts. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were so many of us that we had a little of everything. I had the brisket and sausage. The Brisket was the best! Traditional Texas with plenty of pepper, perfectly done and moist. It was some of the very best that I've had. The sausage was good, but seemed to be traditional Kielbasa. I would have enjoyed beef, but it is not offered. The two sausages offered are pork and spicy pork. Also, I was a little disappointment that I only got 3, half-slices of brisket. It appears as though you get less if you order two meats. Still it was excellent! Live and learn... My son had the pork spare ribs. They were Texas style with pepper and no sauce. The were also excellent! While I did not try the chicken half, they also looked to be a perfect Texas-style half. The sauce on-the-side was really good. There was regular and spicy. It has a tomato base and slightly sweet. Just the way like it. The only dish that we really didn't care for was by Dad's chopped beef sandwich. It was very finely chopped and soggy. I think a coarse chop with less sauce would have been much better. The sides were also very good. We had fried okra and my favorite was the collard greens. Yum! Almost everything was delicious! I will definitely be back and this time know what to order. That brisket is extraordinary! And don't forget to finish it off with a blackberry or peach cobbler. We were in Bryan for the day and I was craving brisket, so we decided to give C&J a try. I wish I could give them 3.5 stars, but since that was not available, I went with 4 instead of 3 because of the rules of rounding. First, I'll start with the good: the moist brisket was juicy, had good pit flavor and the right ratio of fat and meat. The chicken was some of the best I've ever had and the pinto beans were tasty. The not so good: the green beans had a sweetness to them that took away from them rather than adding. The mac & cheese was ok, but nothing exceptional. Also, it would be helpful if their drive-thru menu indicated that you can't order chicken on the 2-meat place and if the speaker worked better. Used the drive through- very prompt service in ordering and receiving. Ordered a half sausage wrap- sausage was tasty but a little on the hard/dried side. No big deal since it tastes great. But 3 stars bc of the mac and cheese. Usually BBQ places have good mac, but this was more on the bland/box Mac side. Was disappointed but will be back to try more items. read more

Invited to a shindig. Met a large group. Had the entire patio reserved for us (about 50 people.) This place is big. And so clean! Two major red flags when entering a BBQ joint. Standard set up. Get in line, place your order, watch them grab meat from under a warming light (red flag) and hack it into pieces to throw on your plate. Pay at the end of the line. The nice thing about a group, if you don't hate each other you can try stuff off other's plates....Food is good. Nice brisket. Should have gone with the lean (I never go with lean). Chicken is kind of flavorless with rubbery skin (remember those warming lights). Pork ribs a little too sweet for my palate but I'm sure they're great sellers. Sausage was great! Jalapeño cheese and regular. Sides: beans, green beans, greens, and potato salad were all good. A couple smaller groups (20ish each) were also easily accommodated in the main area. Probably 100 people total in the main area. Remember this place is BIG! Big enough to have more than 2 stalls in the restroom... I'd come back again for the company but would prefer heading over to Martin's Place while in B/CS for the BBQ. read more

Good barbecue, plenty of seating, friendly staff. Took my daughter's corps outfit here for dinner and everyone loved it.

We were in town for one of my kids camp at the a&m and this was one of the options/suggestions we had for lunch, The place is huge great for big parties, the staff was friendly and very helpful with the overall menu questions we had on the very short line(thankfully wasn't that bad of a line for lunch hour)it was packed with busy business people holding meetings there but that meat place is friendly to everyone, the food was ok the star of the day was the dessert, I'm not I repeat I AM NOT a fan of banana pudding but this one has been THE BEST so far. read more

I ordered the chicken special which was really good and juicy. However, the beef & pulled pork lack flavor.

For years always great. Probably still may be if you don't get here between 11:00-11:30. Four times in a row, the moist brisket, ribs and turkey are DRY. Dry BBQ is not for me. They will not let you pick out what you want either. You get what they give you. Tell turkey sliced 1/2" thick. Do not cut it up. Three times the cut it up anyway. Never again! Check your order! I ordered the ultimate party pack for our Christmas party. Had to pick it up the day prior since they were closed on 25 & 26 Dec. I arrived 5 minutes before my scheduled 2pm pick up time which began 30 minutes of employees going here and there to collect the needed items. I asked that they double check that I got everything so they lifted the trays out of the box to make sure the extra sides were all accounted for. It was my mistake in trusting without verifying myself. I realized when I got home that they forgot to give me ice. I'm guessing a bag of ice to throw in the freezer. Walmart was out of ice so had to run to HEB to buy bags of ice. On Christmas Day, I pull everything out of the fridge to find out that the 3 chickens and 2 slabs of ribs were also not included. That's a tough lesson to learn an hour before the entire family arrives for Christmas dinner. Left a message for the catering team on Christmas. After no callback, had to call again on the 31st. The manager called back and offered a refund for the price of the chicken and ribs. My grandfather doesn't have many family Christmas get-togethers left and all he asked for was ribs. I felt terrible serving dinner with half the meat missing and not being able to put a couple ribs on his plate and see his smile. read more

In the past I've been critical of this c&j location. The reason being is that I enjoy a good Saturday BBQ. Every Saturday I stop at c&j at 11:00 a.m. for barbecue brisket. I only come in the morning because I know the brisket is and should be fresh. However it appears that today's brisket was maybe yesterday's brisket. That alone is a huge issue. If I'm not mistaken last Saturday I was charged $24 for a pound today the charge is now $27 a pound. That is absolutely ridiculous to pay that much money for mediocre meat. I will no longer be critical of c&j as I will no longer be going to any of their locations. It is now become cheaper for me to travel to Caldwell to Matus barbecue since their barbecue is $18 a pound and it is absolutely delicious. Farewell well c&j. read more

Usually the food is great! Maybe it was because they close at 3 and we made it there in the drive through at 2:30, I ordered moist brisket and when I got home most of it was hard , dry, and old. we always come here and the food , service is always amazing. read more

I went to c&j Ordered 2 slice BBQ sandwiches they are much smaller than what they use to be like hamburger sizes the brisket not as good because they are using a different cut of meat it's stringee like a roast would be and if you have it to go check to make sure you get your pickles ,onions,BBQ sauce this use to be our favorite BBQ but not any more we are going to some other place like Fargo read more
