Best BBQ in College Station - Worth Every Mile! If you're…read morelooking for authentic Texas pit barbecue done right, Cooper's Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in College Station is the real deal. I brought the whole family and we left stuffed, happy, and already planning our next visit. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender with that perfect smoky bark, and the burnt ends were absolute heaven, crispy, and packed with flavor. The sides were just as impressive: creamy, cheesy mac n' cheese that felt like a hug in a bowl, rich twice-baked potatoes loaded with all the good stuff, hearty beans with just the right sweetness and smoke, and everything complemented the meat beautifully. Save room for dessert because they do those right too. The banana pudding was silky, nostalgic perfection, and the cobblers were warm, fruity, and topped with that flaky crust and Blue Bell Vanilla Ice Cream that makes you want seconds. The service was outstanding and genuinely friendly from the moment we walked in. The staff made us feel welcome and took great care of our large group. The restaurant itself is fantastic , spacious indoor and outdoor seating, plus party rooms that make it ideal for family gatherings, celebrations, rehearsal dinners etc...or just a big Sunday lunch. Cooper's nailed every part of the experience: incredible food, warm hospitality, and a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere. This is Texas BBQ at its finest. We'll be back soon! I highly recommend bringing the whole crew! Rod Gray Cypress, TX

I thought the prices were in line with today's BBQ prices. Really friendly staff overall and packaged the food nicely.

We were BLOWN AWAY by the number of college students, dressed in their Sunday's best, openly praying over their food before enjoying some awesome chicken. It was SO NICE TO SEE! We ordered a family meal (20 pieces), 2 sides of fries and a chicken sandwich meal. We paid around $40. Great value! The food came out quick and arrived hot and fresh. I had a slight "issue" where I thought my chicken wasn't fully cooked and the manager reassured me that it was just breading but happily remade my sandwich to give me peace of mind. I REALLY appreciated that. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, literally leaving "not a fry left behind." The size of my chicken on the sandwich was HUGE- had to be hanging off the roll by 2" on each side! Staff were phenomenal. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Love the laid back decor. Plenty of seating inside and some tables outdoors as well. Definitely recommend!

The Cookshack has a different vibe and feels more like a lunch or dinner spot, while Mess is the perfect breakfast place. Alright, who am I reviewing again? Right. The Cookshack has some great options, and my wife and I went for the Chicken & Waffles. I chose the hottest seasoning they had--pretty sure it was ghost pepper--and yeah, it was spicy but didn't make me miserable. There was a lot of food, and it definitely filled us up. My wife got mac n cheese with hers and really enjoyed every bite. The cashier was nice and attentive. The atmosphere is great for a lunch or dinner date. Plus, they have large booths, which we really appreciate.

My son ordered the scallops and to say they were gritty was an understatement. And the service...well when we could flag our waitress down we got service. Otherwise she was nowhere to be found. My husband flagged down another waitress after we had been sitting there for 15 minutes without any water or drinks. We also had to flag her down for the check. Considering the price tag for the night, I expected the service to be better.

Greater was very apologetic for not sitting us right away but told us a 5 -10 minute wait would help them better serve us. Well said and kitchen thanks you for not stacking tables. You can tell they have well trained staff. They kept up with the business. You could tell the kitchen expo was on point because everything came out together hot and freshly garnished. Well orchestrated firing, plating, and serving. We enjoyed everything but especially the appetizers (fried green tomatoes and calamari). Of course one person had to get the chicken fried steak. I had the salmon....we finished off everything it was so good.

I ordered the two meat plate with brisket and sliced pork belly. I loved the flavor of the pork belly. It was cooked well, and the outside had a savory, yet sweet taste that was so good. The brisket I had and the sausage and ribs my husband had were average and not memorable. The pickled onions helped them taste better. I appreciated the monthly side special - green bean casserole and sweet potato casserole. Both were delicious and quite filling. My husband liked the mashed potatoes he selected. My child, who normally eats all the French fries first left quit a few, so I'm guessing the tenders tasted better. As for the customer service, hardly anyone behind the line or at the register looked like they wanted to be there. The girls at the register charged us for an extra cup although a small one came with the kid's meal. Then the music. I expected country music (even though I'm not a huge country music fan). Rock music was playing, and while I love Stone Temple Pilots, hearing "Creep" around Noon at a restaurant on a Sunday morning was different. If I come back to C&J's, I'll probably head to a different location.

If this just happened once, I wouldn't mention it. But since it happened twice in a row, I would no longer recommend them. My rating below is from 2 years ago, and it has consistently been good for two years until recently. Not sure what changed, but something has. Frank's Country Store & BBQ is a hidden gem in the BCS area. Let me say right off the bat, as a native Texan who has eaten at a majority of the Texas Top-50 Barbecue joints, I judge all barbecue joints by their brisket. In Texas brisket is king, and if you can't smoke a brisket properly, you might as well hang it up. I really could care less about sides, as basically anything will do. And, I do like to try some sausage in most of Texas' good barbecue joints, as a lot of towns have different sausage recipes. I assume Frank's uses Slovacek sausage, since it's the king sausage of the BCS area. Frank's has some GREAT BRISKET! Nothing more to say.
