J. Cody's is a great place to eat! My husband and I have been going for years. He always gets BBQ brisket, and I go for the Chicken Fried Steak. We have NEVER been disappointed in the food or the servers. Got to meet the owner yesterday, Mr Cody, and he was so nice and took time out to talk to us, even though the restaurant was very busy. They even bring a basket of homemade cornbread out before the meal...yummy! read more

I eat here once a week. And unfortunately as usual consistency doesn't seem to matter to the owners of this restaurant. There are days that I get great barbecue and there are other days where I get day old dried marbled barbecue. Most of the portion I received today was inedible I had to give half of it to my dog who enjoyed it I might add, it's just difficult to justify spending 15 to $30 for a pound of brisket that is not edible. Food is good, we really like the sausage and the bbq turkey. The bad part is when you order the 2 meat plate as a to go order they never give you the bread that is included in the 2 meat plate description. We've ordered to go 3 times and have never been given our bread. I don't know why it took me so long to eat here. I've eaten hamburgers catered by them and it was great. It's also close to my house. So I stopped in for lunch and had a great meal. Not sure why their stars are low. Fun Texas interior, reasonably clean, good service (a miracle these days with all the staff shortages), and a good menu selection. I had a 2 meat plate with fatty brisket and turkey, Cody corn (creamed corn) and potato salad. Comes with (very good) jalapeño cornbread and country white bread. Everything was good. The brisket was juicy and very flavorful, the turkey was moist, the sides were yummy and the BBQ sauce was a nice vinegary version that wasn't too sweet. Portions are generous, too. I would certainly come back. Next time will try the BBQ stuffed potatoes or a burger. Recommended. read more

Always a comfortable setting at Cody's. The staff is very nice and accommodating. They're service is efficient and we were served very quickly. Cloe was exceptional. Love this place, but do not EVER make a food order to go or pick up. They will short change the crap out of you, especially on sides. Sides are 2.50 and come in at most a 2 oz cup that isn't close to full. I ordered okra / tomatoes, country potatoes, potato salad, macn cheese and fried okra. Got 2 potatoes, about 10 fried okra, and about 3 bites each of the mac, okra and salad which cost $12.50 for about at most $2.00 worth of product. The amount of food wouldnt feed my 10 year old. Also, a large fountain drink was almost $4.00. What a f'ing joke I understand businesses need to make a profit, but these mark ups are so unethical. The prices are fine if you actually get a serving size in line with the costs. The irony of it all is if you eat at the resturaunt, you get unimited sides as long as you finish the ones on your plate before getting more. That is a heck of a deal. The food was awesome at J Cody's. The bbq ribs were fall off the bone good and the chicken was delicious. The thing I really liked was how they heated up the bbq sauce. I put it on the already delicious ribs and it just sent me to heaven. The chicken was really good. The only problem that I had at all was the amount of chicken they give you. It was not much with 2 ribs. I was a little salty because most bbq places don't skimp but they try and make it up on the sides. Luckily the Cody corn and pinto beans were delicious. But still would like more meat. The service was good and the servers were really nice. The ambiance was very Texas a lot of wood and cowboy stuff. I will still give them 5 stars but the loaded brisket sandwich had more meat than my two meat plate. My wife on the other hand had the same two meat plate with ribs and brisket and she definitely got the better end. Must have been access brisket this day because everyone got a lot of brisket. While I barely got any chicken. But J Cody's everyone has a bad day occasionally. Your food is good. The service was great and friendly. We went on a Sunday and between 2 people shared the 3 meat plate with unlimited sides which was more than enough! For $20 it was still kind of more than I would want to pay. The rib was amazing! Everything else was just eh. We got The brisket and the sausage, with creamed corn, green beans, beans, and potatoes. I found J Codys on TripAdvisor where it had 4.5* vs. Yelp's 3.5*. My first option turns put was closed so I "settled" for option two. Very glad that I did as the value is definitely worthwhile. I was set on steak and ordered the 12oz ribeye with baked potato... my only regret of the dining experience....I should have ordered a larger cut lol. My steak was very tree tender, moist and grilled perfectly. I selected beans and okra from the vegetable bar with a slice of jalapeno cornbread. With a Shiner plus tip my total damage was only $28. Food is always excellent, with a good variety, even if you don't prefer their "CODY Corn" there are other vegetables just as good. The service has always been very good with the waiter / waitress frequently checking to fill you glass of water or tea. Recently came here for a work dinner and ordered what I thought would be something delicious "ends" or whatever it was called and it was so gross, it was as if they took the WORST part of the beef and mixed it together and threw it on the grill. So much fat as well. I do not recommend this place. Cornbread was also super dry. Also, my serving of mashed potatoes was about 1/3 of what my coworker received. First Presbyterian Church in Bryan recently hosted a catered celebration. I worked with J Cody's. I can't say enough about my pleasant experience! From the beginning, Meka worked with me answering questions, talking through our menu options and desired set up (we requested 2 serving tables resulting in 4 serving lines). We added a kid-friendly option near the end of our process. Four workers arrived with smiles and dedication setting everything up in record time! All this said about the customer service and... the brisket, sausage, chicken, their famous corn, green beans, coleslaw, and cornbread were delicious! They provided everything--food, disposables, poured every glass of water and tea. They never wavered throughout our event. Thank you, J Cody's! And J Cody stopped in for a personal visit! First time to JCodys - Absolutely love Boots Sasparilla.. but their's was carbonated water with a little hint of root beer.. only had one glass.. usually drink it until I can't breathe..here it was hard to finish the one glass..sad they try to saved a few pennys.. and make their's carbonated water. Ordered the large peach cobbler.. must have been the last bit left in the pan... because I had cobbler crust with 2 small slices of peach with very little sauce... have already eaten a lot of the crust.. picture of the bowl of crust.. waiter was nice... they didn't have 1/4 star for the food and drink.. so had to give them a full one star read more

So disappointed in a restaurant that used to be quite good. Steaks were once very tasty and juicy. First time back since Covid and man oh man have they gone downhill. My $31 ribeye was tough and tasteless and dry. It was supposed to be 16 ounces but looked more like 12 ounces. No juice at all.. The Codycorn and the bread were good. The baked potato was nothing special. Service was OK but never got a tea refill. One shared steak, 2 baked potatoes, one side and a cobbler and 15% tip. Total $51 !!!
