Found another great BBQ stop between H-Town and SA. Brisket was very good. Portions were generous and price was reasonable . I'll return

We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. While our tour guide greeted several servers as we entered like old friends, I don't think that was the cause of their friendliness to our group as a whole, I saw them happily greeting everyone and providing excellent service. Our happy server quickly took drink orders, you can tell when a server is confident in her job and knows the routines as she never wrote anything down but when she returned with drinks, the orders were all correct. She then took orders for lunch, we had a variety of offerings from the menu. I decided on the Tzatziki Salad, a nicely presented Greek style salad with grilled chicken breast slices and some tzatziki with pita points. Others around me had the Rueben and the grilled chicken salad and said everything was perfect. I also heard great things about the home made chicken salad and their hamburgers. And if you feel like your garden needs a bit more color, just step into the garden center after lunch and pick out some lovely plants to take home!

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

We cringe everytime we see any streamer say how great the food is at buccees. This place, could blow them away...but 1.) the staff sucks. Every single time we've come, it feels like NO ONE wants to be working there. Except for the wonderful older woman working the bakery early mornings. She does the basics. "Good morning", "have a great day", "let me get you a warm kolache", "have a safe trip". You know simple, polite,no extra small talk. Stuff that no one ever, like never besides her has done. The girls at check out are the worst. I'm going to leave it at that. At this point it's a management problem. 2.) it's not open 24 hours. The only reason we stop at buccees is to use the bathroom if we know we will get here before it opens. We will still keep coming. The toasted cinnamon coffee and pecan is AMAZING!!!! I've bought bags several times just to have it. The bakery goods, and jerky blow anything buccees has. I've bought steaks here to make back home and they were great. I've bought salsas, rubs, honey, cakes, etc.... The bathrooms even though they aren't as big, are just as clean as buccees. Never tried the restaurant here but maybe one day....

I am glad we did. It is very interesting and cool to see. Go on-line and set up the tour. The Spoetzl Brewery is out of the way but if you put it with another trip it is not a bad drive. The tour price includes a goodie bag and 3 glasses of beer. After you park, go inside to the gift shop to check-in. We went during the week and we had 4 people only so it was a nice tour. On the weekend the tour lady said it can be a large group of people. You get to bring your first beer on the tour. You see videos and beer lines where everything is made and packed up for sale. After the tour less than an hour you get to enjoy 2 more beers if you want. Outside is a big picnic table area covered where you can sit and enjoy your beer. You can eat there as will. There were a lot of people eating a bbq sandwich. You can get them next door to the gift shop. It did look good. Also they have a restaurant but we did not check that out.

We bought a couple of tastings, and our bartender was super nice and informative without getting in our way of enjoying the spirits. We brought my mom to hang out and wow, my mom... she can throw them down. While I appreciated the strength of the vodka and the bourbon, my mom totally enjoyed the cinnamon moonshine. After trying out the distilled spirits, we went to the gift shop. I stocked up on some Shiner+Texas Standard gear, that now you can't really get anymore. The store is different than what you can get online, and vice versa... some of the stuff you might find online, you won't find in the in person store. After the tasting and shopping experience, we went to the new restaurant, which showcases the spirits and the seasonal beer. We also waited for the dessert. I enjoyed the bread pudding and we were lucky to try some practice rounds that the mixologists were trying out. All in all, we had a fun visit to one of my favorite places on the planet.
