I met some friends who live in Victoria and Goliad, Texas for lunch here last weekend. We were lucky to get some chairs under a tree and could hear the music from a bit further away. It was a nice, hot, muggy day! We enjoyed the BBQ, the beer, and the cocktails. I don't drink beer (but if I did I'm sure it would be Shiner beer) so I was glad to see they had a distillery with pretty much a full bar. Three of us took the tour, which was fascinating! The AC was not working well in some parts of the building that day so part of the tour, we were sweating quite a bit during parts of it because it was a hot day. The BBQ (lean brisket and sausage) was good but their sauce was a bit watery/bland. I believe the spirits were also made by the same people but I haven't seen that brand in other stores before. I had a paloma (they don't have grapefruit soda so it was just made with ruby red grapefruit juice and vodka with some soda water) and a spicy margarita. Both were good but tasted different than a typical vodka or tequila drink to me. The friends I went with have gone there several times and said the drinks/cocktails seemed watered down this time didn't taste the same as they usually do so we wondered if they had changed their spirits or the measurements. I guess I'll have to go back again some day and see if they've gone back to their usual drink recipes! read more

This is a nice little day trip away from San Antonio. A quick, lovely, scenic drive leads you to this huge backyard! Open space with lots of seating and enough yard for kids to play and throw footballs (some kids don't realize their aim/catching skill level so beware if you're sitting close to the activity). We booked the distillery tour which was a fun and educational activity. You also get to sample the spirits and walk away with souvenir bag. There's a nice big bar area outside with snacks, you can also order food and more substantial snacks through the restaurant. There is also a nice gift shop with lots of goodies. Everything was yummy. Especially the pretzels. I didn't know I could love pretzels that much! Service was friendly. Definitely a nice way to spend the day off you want to get away. read more

Brewery # 368 Shiner is the biggest brewery in a state that likes things big. Shiner is the brewery (Shiner Bock was the beer) that got me back into beer drinking 20 years ago. That's why I gave them 4 stars instead of 3. This place is huge. It's part brewery, part distillery, part bbq restaurant, part gift shop and all things tourist trap. The distillery was very nice, but I wasn't a fan of the product. Although to be fair I didn't try them all. The tap room was disappointing as they didn't have any kind of exclusives or experimental beers that I like to see when visiting a brewery. It's simply 18.00 (Stupid amount) for a flight of 3 mini beers you can get at the local HEB but you get to keep the flight board. I didn't try the bbq but the grounds and gift shop are very nice. It was cool but it wasn't what I was wanting. I was hoping to find a bigger selection of beers to try. It's more like visiting a Budweiser or Miller than a craft brewery. If you know that going in, it's fine. I will still keep drinking Shiner beers, but I probably won't go back to the source. read more

This is our 3rd time here. We love this brewery and would visit more often except it's a little bit of a drive from New Braunfels. Very family and dog friendly with a pretty good bbq take out (picnic tables available). They have a new sit down restaurant on site which, unfortunately, was not open. We added the distillery tour this time and their vodka, gin, and cinnamon inspired spirits were very good. I took a pass on the moonshine. Both tour guides were very nice and took the time to answer questions. Sarah attended us for the distillery tour and Judy was our brewery guide. We had a wonderful day. read more

We were planning to stop through Shiner for the first time today and looked online earlier this week to see about getting a tour. The brewery closed at 2pm but we were super excited the Distillery was still open so we booked a tour at 4:30. We even changed our work schedules so we could make it on time. Well, they called us today and cancelled our tour saying they weren't actually open then. Not only is it disappointing to have it cancelled but especially on short notice when we'd already changed our plans and booked a hotel for the evening to be responsible afterward. This is my second time visiting Shiner Brewery. Both times were great. First time was a few years ago. We did the brewery tour at that time. The new thing since I've been back is the addition of a distillery which is nice since I don't really drink that much beer regularly, anymore. However yesterday while at a nearby festival, I tried the Texhex IPA and lite blonde both were very nice. We also had a couple of their summer shandys which is always a nice choice on a hot day. Today we wanted to stop by the brewery being so close by. Staff are super friendly. Food, drinks, and tour are all great. I would love to come back again next time I'm in the area. If you are a Texas beer fan you have to visit this brewery at least once. I came here on my way back to Houston from San Antonio. The offshoot didn't add much driving time to the journey...just make sure you have a DD because they spoil you with booze if you do the tours. The tour itself is very nice. You get to see lots of the brewery and packaging process. You get a bunch of swag too: sticker, bag, cup, and a little surprise at the end. Plus 3 drink tokens with each tour fee. When I came there was live music outside for Memorial Day which was a great way to relax. The bbq place on site was also decent, I got the pulled pork sandwich and was able to order on my phone and pick up when ready. Don't skip out on this place, it's well worth the detour! read more

Great independent brewery! Service, atmosphere, food and drinks: We purchased tickets for a Shinerfest and arrived at the Shiner brewery for the first time. The festival was super fun. Everything was well organised. The staging, the live music, on site food and various beers (cocktails too, as they are distillery) made this event simply awesome. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Additionally, we purchased the brewery tour which is something I would recommend you to do when you visit this place. We had talked about visiting for years, but with it being about 4.5 hours from DFW we never got around to visiting until our anniversary this past summer. I would highly suggest you purchase tickets to the brewery online ahead of time to secure a spot on their tours. The system had just changed when we got there so it was somewhat over booked. And for August it was HOT. The inside of the brewery does NOT have AC. They do have elevators to take you upstairs if you need assistence instead of using the stairs. They give you some tokens for beers included with your ticket. We enjoyed the fresh brews available on the spot and being able to walk around with them while on tour. They also had some live music outside and you could purchase food from their BBQ place- K Spoetzel BBQ Company. We also could see some production of the beer and packaging in the warehouse since it was a friday that we were visiting which is always neat. Maybe the problem is that i was expecting a microbrewery and this strikes me as more of a corporate place. I wanted to come in and get a flight of their beers. but not so fast! you first get to the tour office, who told me to go into the gift shop to inquire how i could purchase beer. you can get a flight of beer for $18 for three tasters. (what?!?!) or... you can buy a glass that you have to cart around for $10, and you get two tokens, and each token can be exchanged for a glass of beer. why so convoluted? the tour, then gift shop, then bar all seemed very sterile and corporate. not like a microbrewery where the person behind the counter is excited about their offerings. i don't like these types of places, but if this is your thing, more power to you! also, if you have a large vehicle or RV or trailer, i wouldn't try their parking lot. see pic read more

Stopped by today. Loved the energy and the buy a glass for $12 and get 3 beers was great. It is shiner beer so no complaints. Solid beer and good variety. The IPA was easy drinking but could be a little more flavorful. We also stopped over to the distillery to have a few cocktails. First I want to say the service was great and the drinks were prepared very well. My old fashion was a great blend of sweet while still letting the bourbon come through. Unfortunately the bourbon should not be a focus for anything. It was young and unflavorful. My wife had the gin and it might be the worst gin we have ever tried. So long story short. The death of a Texas legend: We brought family to Shiner for a tour and were so disappointed. I've taken this tour a hundred times and it's always marked by great people with a great sense of humor that proudly give away samples of what they make here...and the tour was free. I guess those people all moved on. The Guy at the gate was short with us and rude as we tried to figure out where to go with all the new stuff. No hospitality. No welcome. Just rudeness. The lady giving the brewery tour got offended at a joke I made to try to taste their whisky. It's a sad day when I'm used to coming here and belly laughing with the staff. I guess the European liberal Karen's that bought the Shiner name are allergic to a good time. Lastly, everything cost a fortune. Gone are the days when Mr. Spoetzle and his people would gladly give a sample to win a loyal drinker of Shiner Beer (which I've been for YEARS). He would be more disappointed than I am. Everything I loved about Shiner Beer and the what I associated with the brand was exemplified by the brewery tour. The people were as nice as you'll ever meet and they felt more like new friends than anything else. The brewery was so clean, they gave you full access to see everything, so detailed in every aspect, and you got to see how they served the world with the world's best beer. This is a great place to take visitors to Texas. It's only a couple of hours from Houston and only an hour from San Antonio. They provide tours (reservations recommended) to either the brewery or the distillery. The tours include tasting. The regular brewery tour gives you three pints of beer for free. The tour is quite reasonably priced and if you add on the distillery tour you'll be out about $40 per person. You'll need about 2 hours to complete both tours and you can then eat some wonderful meats and sides. Lots of parking. Lots of outside seating. Great place to chill. read more

It's been years since we last visited the brewery and were pleasantly surprised with all the new features added. It's now a more family friendly place complete with lots of green space for playing cornhole, tossing a football or just running around. They now have a BBQ restaurant on-site, K. Spoetzel BBQ. We didn't try it on this visit, but it was busy and there was a small wait. The gift shop is filled with lots of merchandise options with lots of cute designs. All of the t-shirts are the canvas make, which is my preferred t-shirt base. The shirts are a little pricey but this is partly why. The tasting room is gorgeous and large. You need to buy a glass at the gift shop to get your drink tokens. From there, you get a full glass of whatever is on tap. If you want to try something before you commit, they'll give you a sample. There is a lot outdoor seating (covered and uncovered) which is perfect for enjoying some tasty Shiner beer on a nice afternoon. read more

If you come to this brewery for a visit there are some things you need to be aware of. They do offer tours which start at $20, but they only give you three beer tokens. This is not a place you can just show up, buy a few beers and a cheese plate and just hang out for a couple of hours. If you have never been on a brewery tour this is actually worth it. As someone who has worked in a brewery and been to many other breweries, I have to admit they put on a good show and have a lot to see. They have a relatively new outdoor covered area and they just built some new bathrooms. The newest thing that's about to happen to this business is that by next year they will be distilling their own vodka and gin, so I am told by a very reliable source. They do have a decent gift shop, but the prices are pretty high. So is this Brewery worth traveling 100 miles from Austin or elsewhere to visit? Probably not, but if you're within the vicinity it's worth dropping into for sure. They do have a nice tasting room and lots of covered seating outside. An AMAZING time at the Shiner Spoetzl Brewery! I've been wanting to come here for some time and was able to visit it on the way back from the river. My friends and I did the brewery tour, only lasted about 45-60 minutes. We purchased the little bit cooler tour ($50) and the basic tour ($20) both come with three beer tokens for consumption. The brewery itself is impeccably clean and organized. I can tell they take great pride on their beer and brewery. We love touring breweries. And we keep coming back to Shiner! We have visited this brewery multiple times. It has obviously grown over the years. It has been newly remodeled. They have very friendly staff who will not make you feel intimidated when inquiring about their beer. We happened to visit during their distillery grand opening. SUCH A FUN EXPERIENCE! Make sure to go online and designate a time to go on a tour. You have to select the package you want at the front. Designating a time for a tour online is free. The overall tour lasts about 30 mins at most and its a pretty interesting/ unique brewery. Loved the all white aesthetic and the old factory feel that we really don't get to see too often. We overlooked all rooms where the brewing process begins and ends. Everything from actually brewing the beer to packaging. You get to take awesome pictures along the way. Afterwards you can enjoy your 3 tokens= 3 beers of your choice depending on which package you decide to get. If you enjoy shiner beer and ciders, you will definitely enjoy the experience. I have enjoyed Shiner beer and a fan that the brewery is located within a couple hours of home. This is definitely a go to for out of town visitors. The tour walks you through the process and lets you see into the brewery through a viewing area. Unfortunately the line was down for a computer issue but normally it will be running during the tour. There is now a BBQ place onsite for a good meal. I went with the chopped brisket baked potato and a pretzel. Food was good and decently priced. I actually expected it to cost more for being onsite. There was a lot of outdoor seating under shade which worked well since it had been sprinkling. If the sun was out there are a lot of yard games to play. If you're lucky enough to be of the drinking age, you get 3 pours with a paid tour. read more

If you ever want to know how a brewery works in making quality beer this is the place to go. Nice gift shop wirh plenty of stuff related to Shiner Beer. A must try is the black lager. A really nice pairing that works with the BBQ. Just so happens they have a BBQ restaurant within walking distance of tour.
