Cute off-the-beaten-path stop on our way to Austin! The staff is very friendly and super helpful! Rohan Meadery is off the beaten path but worth traveling off the beaten path to get to. It's a quaint cute place that's part farm and part meadery. You'll see the roosters and the ducks and meet their very friendly dog, Vex. Inside seating is limited but in this heat who can object to that? There's one large table and a couple of smaller ones in the air conditioning along with more tables outside. To be quite honest the Texas summer is not that conducive to outdoor experiences. I loved tasting the various meads, but they also have wine and beer. And I guess you can buy some of their farm stuffs if you're inclined. Five Stars. A great destination for those who want to get out of the city and enjoy some tasty meads. When one of my best buddies from business school flew into Houston, we decided to meet somewhere in the middle to catch up and we ended up here. When I arrived, a woman was outside playing some mellow songs on guitar that really set the mood. Due the location of this place, there are quite a few critters roaming around and it is not unusual to have a chicken or two join you at the tables outside. As a mead enthusiast myself, I was really curious what sort of offerings this place had. In my experience, it is often hard to find a place that makes meads that are balanced just right: too often the meads are either too cloyingly sweet or bone dry with no taste. However, all the drinks offered here were spot on. I particularly enjoyed some of the more unique meads, like the pear lavender melomel or the orange spice mead (which I believe is also a melomel). Again, with more unique meads it's easy to go overboard with adding spices and such, and this place delivered on making something that was balanced just right. We also ordered some of these bread poppers, which I don't remember the name of, that were very good--along with a tasty pizza. Definitely a great off-the-beaten-path place to check out, especially if you like mead! read more

I had the chance to visit the Rohan Meadery the other day, and I enjoyed myself (with a caveat). Finding the place isn't too bad so long as you are paying attention to signs on the side of the road. There is a good sign on TX-159 pointing out which farm road to take, and really the sign by their location isn't bad, but somehow I missed it the first time I drove by. I think I may have been distracted by something else (a Bugatti drove by at one point along there, moving at quite a clip, and it may have been right when I was passing the farm). One turn-around later and I found it without any problems. The meadery is on a farm that grows grapes, various fruit trees, and has an apiary for the honey. There is a large covered area for outdoor events or just a chance to sit and have a nice drink, as well as the main building that holds the various tanks and instruments necessary for making wine and mead. Inside there is a bar to order the various drinks they have on tap, as well as cheese boards that they have available. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and were able to answer my questions without issue. I went with a tasting menu, because I am always in search of a good mead and I tend to be picky. Most meads have a tendency to be on the dry side because of the wine industry, whereas I prefer my meads sweet, perhaps too sweet. They also offer their products bottled or in growlers, which is where I run into my caveat: the one mead I really found to be enjoyable was only available on tap, and they did not have any bottled. I'm sorry, but a place that makes and sells wine and mead, offers it all on tap, but then does not have any of that product being offered on tap and in a tasting by the bottle so that you can take some home with you to enjoy at your leisure is not thinking well in the business sense. The local area has a solid tourist flow, and those tourists want to bring things home with them and cannot simply return in a week when they (might) have some product bottled. I could understand if it were just one item on the board that was not available in bottles at the time, but it turned out it was actually a good percentage of the items I sampled were not available. I did enjoy my time there, and if you are going there to sit in what amounts to a beer garden that specializes in mead and wine, then it is certainly a good place to go. read more

It was our wedding anniversary and we had operated out of Covid caution all year. We had to find something that felt safe yet special. We're so glad we found this spot. Excellent service, amazing ambiance, fun tastings of honey wine called mead, and a charcuterie board bite to enjoy. Highly recommend as a friends' group, family or couples activity. Rohan now offers more than mead - they have wine AND cider tastings too! Rohan is always our on our stop to or from Wimberley, Carmine and other area towns that we staycation at. I've been there with my dogs on cold winter days and hot summer afternoons. And my dogs love accompanying me on these excursions. Lots of lawn space to roam around (on their leashes). read more

It's in the middle of nowhere but it's a nice facility. The cheese and meat tray was great. Tasty selections and varieties. The wine flight we had and tastings were of some pretty good wines. Our favorites were their specialities made with honey/mead. There is a large outside area with a stage (I assume for live music). The staff is informative and friendly. We will return. read more

My boyfriend and I found ourselves rolling into the Rohan Meadery on a chilly Sunday afternoon, after an overnight in Bryan. Heading back to Houston and we really didn't want to cut our vacation too short so we stopped by for food at a local bbq spot and found Rohan on google. We walked in right after they opened and Kelly welcomed us with open arms (after helping us find the spot because we drove right past it. Lol) We aren't wine connoisseurs by any means but truly enjoyed tasting some the meads, wines and ciders they serve and at extremely reasonable price of $10 for 5 tastings. One of my favorites were their Sunshine mead (I bought a bottle of this one) and their reds are to die for! My boyfriend really liked the rosé and the some of their ciders. Kelly referred me to a great local Austin artist, Nathan Hinajosa, that played there the weekend before, and we listened to him the whole way home. She also mentioned a cute camping spot near by that we will definitely consider in the future. I hope we can go back to enjoy the night life that they get on the weekend but stopping in early during a week day and getting to talk to Kelly intimately was great! We stopped by on our way home from Round Top. The mead is very good. They produce a variety of flavors. The owner was the person giving us our tasting and happy to answer questions. It is $10 for a taste of five. You can choose from their Mead, Wine or Cider. They also have a trailer on site that makes pizza. Beware that it does take some time for the pizza. The pizza was ok, not sure I would order again. They have growlers you can fill with their mead. They have two outdoor space. One has a bit more shade. They have chickens on site. They allow dogs outside if on a leash. They also have wine slushies' in either peach or sangria. They also have some gift area with tshirts and honey products. Rohan is my absolute favorite spot in Texas to visit and should be on your list of businesses to see if you're in the area. They have some of the best Mead I've ever tasted (I've tasted quite a few!) - clear, no haze and a fresh and clean taste to every flavor. The Apple and Cranberry meads are in my opinion the best but the whole menu is excellent. They are currently doing curbside pick up and it's been a great system that they have setup for it. Make sure you get a pizza to go while you're here, it too is some of the best pizza I've ever had (I recommend the Vida). The fresh dough they make is unreal and always comes out hot right out of the oven and straight to you. There is an ample variety of mead wine to sample, and the mead ranges from dry to sweet. I was surprised at how much I liked most of mead, as I tend to shy away from overly sweet wines, but the process used here produces delicious mead with subtle flavors and fruit-forward tartness. My favorite was the cranberry mead: it's packed with a flavor punch, yet is very well balanced with tart and sweet. Beyond the mead the estate is lovely, with fields of wildflowers, guinea hens and chickens roaming the property, and friendly resident winery dogs (Great Pyrenees)! Pro tip: after your tasting, purchase a glass of your favorite mead from the tap (which is slightly more carbonated than from the bottle). Enjoy it outside at the covered picnic tables. read more

Our host, Kelly did an awesome job teaching and sharing with us her knowledge and stories about the farm and its products. She was a great host and very informative about everything. Very inviting atmosphere. Would have wanted to stay longer. Had an outdoor seating area and an open farm that you could walk around some spots. Heard about this place because my wife was at a Cidery in Austin. She said the mead was delicious. So on the way back from Austin we stopped by this meadery and had a tasting. This place is awesome! Pulling in you will see bee boxes which they have for the mead! We had a tasting which was $10 for 5 mead choices and they were pairing them with chocolate! Our favorite was the cranberry honey. We decided to also get some food and they had a pizza truck outside! They also offered a cheese and meat plate if pizza wasnt available. My wife also loved that they sold their bee honey and also bee wax products. We bought the growler to come back and refill as well as some bottles. I have been to Rohan Meadery many times over the last 5 years and after today's experiences will never go again. We came here with a group of 7 adults and 2 children to celebrate a good friend's birthday. My one friend is a wine club member and she suggested we all celebrate at Rohan. We got there about 2pm and we ordered 4 pizzas and 2 orders of the pizza bites. Some of our friends had never been to Rohan's before so they got 3 tastings. We were there for over 3 hours and we drank 4 bottles and a few glasses of beer. One of the employees was very rude to us and told us our children were chasing the chickens with a board???? When we asked further questions the employee said a "customer" told her about the incident. Ok, well our kids were playing connect four and there were other kids outside too. Then when our friends went to get another bottle we were told TABC law says they cannot sell us another bottle. Ok- there are 7 adults??? I have been TABC certified many times over the last 20 plus years and I'm not sure that is true. I could understand if we were loud and obnoxious and drunk, yes definitely cut us off. But after all the food and the amount of time we spent that was not even close to the case. I guess you can't bring friends to Rohan unless you want to share a glass of mead. read more

Found this place on the way out of Austin along 71... so glad I stopped by!! It is a little ways off the road and honestly I thought I was going to the middle of nowhere the whole time we were driving. The meads are so good!! The wines are also good, but I would suggest trying all the meads --very unique and interesting. And apparently, all of the honey is harvested on site from their own bee boxes. There's also a pizza trailer here and outdoor dining/sitting areas. Didn't order anything but the menu looked great with some vegetarian options. Also, there were some cute tiny lambs in a small pen when I went!!!! Can't go wrong with animals! I ended up leaving with a bottle of Sunshine mead. Wish I lived closer because I feel like I'd be a frequent visitor. So glad their Facebook page mentioned that some of their products can be bought in Houston though, because I'll be checking that out :) The tasting is 5 for $5. Do it!! read more
