Fun trip to see how they make Shiner beer. I have been to plenty of breweries and I know how they…read moremake beer. I was not sure if it was worth the trip. But we decided to go for a visit. I am glad we did. It is very interesting and cool to see. Go on-line and set up the tour. The Spoetzl Brewery is out of the way but if you put it with another trip it is not a bad drive. The tour price includes a goodie bag and 3 glasses of beer. After you park, go inside to the gift shop to check-in. We went during the week and we had 4 people only so it was a nice tour. On the weekend the tour lady said it can be a large group of people. You get to bring your first beer on the tour. You see videos and beer lines where everything is made and packed up for sale. After the tour less than an hour you get to enjoy 2 more beers if you want. Outside is a big picnic table area covered where you can sit and enjoy your beer. You can eat there as will. There were a lot of people eating a bbq sandwich. You can get them next door to the gift shop. It did look good. Also they have a restaurant but we did not check that out.

We bought a couple of tastings, and our bartender was super nice and informative without getting in our way of enjoying the spirits. We brought my mom to hang out and wow, my mom... she can throw them down. While I appreciated the strength of the vodka and the bourbon, my mom totally enjoyed the cinnamon moonshine. After trying out the distilled spirits, we went to the gift shop. I stocked up on some Shiner+Texas Standard gear, that now you can't really get anymore. The store is different than what you can get online, and vice versa... some of the stuff you might find online, you won't find in the in person store. After the tasting and shopping experience, we went to the new restaurant, which showcases the spirits and the seasonal beer. We also waited for the dessert. I enjoyed the bread pudding and we were lucky to try some practice rounds that the mixologists were trying out. All in all, we had a fun visit to one of my favorite places on the planet.

For my coffee I really enjoyed the iced Golden Ticket coffee I got that included a caramel and a hazelnut flavor with a nice house made cream added to the top. It was so tasty! For food it was hard to choose. Everything from "brekkie", or breakfast, to lunch looked so good as listed on their menu. I ended up with one of their "Handhelds" of the Besto Pesto that included sliced turkey, homemade pesto (nut-free too!), mayo, and some delicious house made pickles. This sando came with a side of house made chips as well and was the portion for my lunch. Since I was driving back to Austin (an hour+ away) I decided to get through all of what was on my plate and not take any leftovers home but I could've!!! I really loved their decor and the long large and beautiful wooden community table they had near the back of the cafe. I saw a whole group of women (more than 6 of them!) gathered around, chatting, and having tea. I assumed they were locals because like them, I would be hanging out here all day with my laptop and/or friends all day if I could. Highly recommend coming in and checking out what you can find to have while here. From coffees, breakfast, lunch, and even refreshing tasty sparkling drinks you will find something you want to have and probably keep coming back for in the future. They have a large gift shop with any type of SWAG you can imagine. We got our little pup one of their Shiner Bock dog toys; she loves it! We booked the distillery tour which was a fun and educational activity. You also get to sample the spirits and walk away with souvenir bag. There's a nice big bar area outside with snacks, you can also order food and more substantial snacks through the restaurant. There is also a nice gift shop with lots of goodies. Everything was yummy. Especially the pretzels. I didn't know I could love pretzels that much! Service was friendly. Definitely a nice way to spend the day off you want to get away.

Second of all, we used to enjoy stopping at Rowdy's Rest Stop for the dogs, but what used to be a nice, grassy area is overgrown with weeds. They used to maintain a deer feeder in the dog rest area and we enjoyed seeing the deer. It is still a convenient place to stop for fuel, but it is NOT AS NICE as it was before.
