I always have such good luck with distilleries and one of the more recent ones we have been to is Copper Shot Distillery that most certainly counts with this good streak. This is in the downtown area and it was a nice stroll from where we parked. We saw on Yelp that this place had a very good overall score average so we definitely made a point to get there. And it most certainly did not disappoint in the slightest. I got the Texas Honey Mule which has honeyed whiskey, lime juice and ginger beer. It was so, so good. I do love Moscow Mules anyway but the fact that they had a small menu of different ones was great to see! This drink Steve and I shared and we both enjoyed it immensely. The atmosphere is really cool with the exposed brick walls, decor and the distilling tanks. We were in town for the Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of the Americas and happened upon this place. We were just going to sample a shot when we realized that it is connected to the to the super-comfortable cigar lounge. They stock some of the finest cigars on the planet and can talk cigars with the best (my brother). We were again surprised when the band fired up and played world-class rock and blues. This Distillery is located in Downtown Bastrop area and is a great bar to have amazing drinks and enjoy a good cigar with friends. The place has inside and outside seating and the atmosphere has a rustic vibe to it. There is a small stage for live music and I recommend the various selections of Old Fashions at the Cigar Bar. Driving back from a family weekend and needed to get out of the car and stretch our legs. Bastrop is such a fun little town for a walk about. I was pleasantly surprised to see this place open on Easter Sunday so we popped in! Great spot! Friendly staff! Cozy little outdoor patio with rocking chairs! We were driving to Austin on vacation and stopped in Bastrop. We found Copper Shot distillery. We selected a flight and sat under a beautiful large pecan tree. Which explains the Pecan Whisky. We met the owner and learned the history of the distillery, great host. To our surprise we had been sitting in front of the mash vats and mini evaporator towers. Dipping finger taste of the mash was yummy. I was lucky to receive a first bottle of the tapped rye barrel, which was a hit at a tasting in Ohio. Wish we could get bottles shipped. read more

This distillery is perfectly located on Main Street where you'll find numerous other "must visit" businesses in the immediate area. There's a good reason why this place is earning five stars from most people. They have a great list of mixed drinks, bottles of their distilled spirits, plenty of seating out back and a cigar lounge. The first thing you notice when you walk in are these hanging vessels of honey and liquor combinations. There's clearly a lot of thought that's gone into this place which makes it all the more interesting to visit. They use local grains and rainwater to craft their creations. It just can't compete with the Moonshine. Getting Whiskey at the Copper Shot Is like asking Mick Jagger to sing a Neil Diamond song. You want the rough stuff and you want it hard. * * * The straight up naked moonshine is a glorious beverage. It is strong. It puts up a fight. It has all sorts of complex tastes. You will remember every scar as you work through the glass. * * * You want a suave-r experience? The master distillers at Copper Shot have learned how to tame the moonshine monster without having it lose any of the wildness that makes it so interesting. They do a version with sweet potato that is a completely meritorious beverage. The sweet potato has zero effect on the taste. But the sweet potato has massive effects on texture and mouthfeel. This place is great! We happened to go on a live music night which was a blast. The band was a great bonus for entertainment. This place has a unique set up. The music was playing in the back part so if we needed a little more quiet we could go back up front which is a nice design. The drinks were delicious! We were told that all liquor is made in house. We ended up purchasing a Texas honey whiskey after having it in a drink. The bartenders were friendly and very Knowledgeable about their product. Not sure if they serve food. Well, howdy there, folks, Bastrop ! Where the steers are tougher than a two-dollar steak and the sun's hotter than a jalapeño's armpit. I've been slingin' saddles in this dusty ol' town for five years now, and let me tell ya, the Bastrop vibe 'round these parts has gone plumb downhill faster than a greased pig at the county fair. It's about as vibrant as a fresh cowboy boot squelchin' through a fresh hog pie--y'know, that kinda mess that sticks to your soul and stinks up the whole dang ranch. So, I moseyed on into copper the other evenin', hankerin' for a proper drink to wash away the woes of wranglin' wayward longhorns all day. I bellied up to the bar and ordered me an old-fashioned, shellin' out an extra two bucks for that fancy whiskey upgrade, thinkin' it'd hit the spot like a cold beer on a scorcher. Lo and behold, right there on the bar top, they got these itty-bitty, teensy-weensy chocolate nibbles--smaller than a JFK half-dollar coin, I swear on my mama's biscuits. And get this: they're labeled with a big ol' sign sayin' "SAMPLE" in letters bold as a bull's bellow, but tucked away is this sneaky lil' "$3" whisper. Now, I ain't no greenhorn; I've sampled more freebies in my life than a coyote's sampled trash cans. Sample means "try this on the house, pardner," right? Like, here's a taste to whet your whistle, no strings attached! Well, I reckoned it was complimentary, so I popped that puny morsel in my mouth--whiskey-infused, sure, but barely enough to satisfy a field mouse. Tasted fine, nothin' to write home about. Then comes the bill, and holy rodeo, there's a $3 charge starin' back at me like a rattlesnake in my boot! I hollered at the bartender, "Hey now, hoss, why in tarnation didn't ya pipe up and say these ain't free? You let me chomp it down without so much as a 'howdy-do' warnin'?" She just shrugged like I was complainin' 'bout the weather. $3 Sample ! This is an Oxymoron ! This here's a full-blown Texas-sized contradiction! If you're gonna hawk chocolates for three bucks a bite in 2025--when inflation's already got us payin' $10 for a loaf of bread--then slap a sign sayin' "$3 WHISKEY CHOCOLATES, CASH OR CATTLE" and be done with it. Don't lure a fella in with "SAMPLE" and then bushwhack him on the tab. That's sneakier than a fox in a henhouse! Y'all, over this piddlin' three-dollar dust-up, you've lost yerself a loyal, local boot-stompin' customer for life. I've been comin' here regular last 5 years tippin' like an oil well gusher, but no more! I left a tip so subpar after my two drinks, it wouldn't buy a gumball. And let me set the record straight: your whiskey? Sub as a flat tire on a monster truck. I've sampled every drop y'all got--hell, I've got bottles at home I'm fixin' to return faster than you can say "yeehaw." This joint ain't nothin' but a dressed up tourist trap looking like a high-falutin' distillery, preying on folks who don't know better. I won't darken your door ever again, not if the cows come home ridin' unicycles. Never, ever, EVER steppin' foot in here no more! Unfortunately the bartenders are not friendly or enthusiastic at all when speaking with customers. The woman with black glasses was not helpful when we asked for drink recommendations and honestly made us feel not welcomed at all. When we tried to be nice back, nothing in return. This place is great for the outdoor space and live music, but if you want to hang inside the distillery you will feel awkward and not wanted due to the staff. read more

Cool bar that's got a door/wall to separate the live performances in the back half which is pretty cool as it was pretty good and muffling the sound so you can still hear yourself speak at the bar. Had an infused moonshine drink that sits behind the bar and it was really good. Didn't even taste like alcohol. Our friends took us to this local distillery for some afternoon drinks. We had a fabulous time! The array of shine and local brews were awesome. My friend suggested I get the blackberry margarita. I absolutely loved it- the alcohol wasn't too strong or too light, with the perfect amount of sweetness. My friend ordered the Vader- went down smooth- pecan shine and amaretto coffee liqueur. If you're ever in Bastrop, you'll definitely want to stop by if you're comfortable trying out liquors/moonshines with different flavors! Drinks/dranks - From the menu, I was most interested in the Cowboy Coffee because it had a great description of things more on the sweet side and it did not disappoint! Not pictured, because I drank it fast and behaved and didn't get another, was the butterscotch shot. Think of a Werther's original, but not in your grandpa's warm pocket, in a chilled, smooth, liquid format. I'm not a connoisseur of any type to evaluate a distillery but I know what I like and they had it :-) Every patron that walked in was really well taken care of. It was pretty early in the day so it wasn't very crowded. There were only two groups of customers indoors and a few that were coming in and out from the outside patio. It was hot out, so that's not my thing, but I can imagine it being a great place to hang out in the evenings or when it's cooler out. Visited with a group of car club peeps on a recent Saturday. Was surprised how much downtown Bastrop has changed since my last visit. Parking can be an issue. The biggest lot a block off of main was near full so we ended up spreading out around the adjacent streets. A short walk to enter Copper Shot Distillery; nice chill vibe sets the mood for the bottled lightning to come. Being the leader of the group; GF and I selected some pre-made shots to try. A flight of 4 shot glasses with assorted flavors. I sampled a bit of each one. Reasonably priced too; think around $8. I found the pre-mixed jugs creative. For those who don't know Texas does not allow ANY additional spirits to be mixed with a product for sale. So, if your visiting a tequila distillery forget triple sec or grand marnier. Think agave, fresh lime juice. I've seen this issue hinder some distilleries and some that really step up the challenge and hit home run drinks. CSD being one of those! read more

This has become one of my wife and my favorite places to go. Excellent home-distilled and infused moonshine drinks, friendly staff, and they always seem to find incredible bands to play on their fabulous back patio. They don't stay open as late as most bars, so don't expect to mosey in at 11 and expect to get drinks. They usually close up around 9 or 10. Never had a bad experience here Even the other customers have been great. I've met some cool people. It's a friendly small town that's getting bigger, so enjoy it while you can and DON'T ruin our small town feel! We like it this way. read more

Was out in Bastrop a few weeks ago and literally saw the outside of this place and turned around the car to go in. It was on a Sunday and upon walking in, saw the Bloody Mary Bar set up. Perfect for an after brunch treat. However, once we saw the other choices, we decided on some Moonshine and Whiskey. I had the Sweetheart Shine after Chris recommendedto me. She was a great help to us as we did not know what to order. My husband did a flight and enjoyed the ones that Chris recommended and he totally enjoyed them all. He also tried the Whiskey and it was smooth and tasty. This place has a back area to sit and relax with music on Friday and Saturday nights. The setting is so cozy and a great place to hang and meet friends. We actually met some locals and have become friends with them. The vibe is great there. We are heading back next week and look forwards to hearing some music and enjoying the evening. Would highly recommend this place if your cruisin' in Bastrop. We are moving to the area in the Fall and I cannot wait to make this place our go-to hang out spot. read more
