This place has amazing service, first of all. Kate was our server and she is a 10 out of 10. Very attentive and hospitable. We came in there with 13 kids and she handled our party like a boss. -- Definitely recommend requesting her if you visit! Our food was hot and delicious! The soft baked pretzels were perfectly salted and had a divine buttery flavor and soft texture. The hummus is something we're still talking about! The flavor was phenomenal! I've been here several times. Usually after a late day at work. It's always filled but never full. Plenty of seating inside or on the patio (but the music can be loud). Service is efficient and nice. Full bar. Pretty good cocktails. I've really become a fan of the chicken fried chicken. Shrimp &grits is the bomb. Burgers are all pretty good as well. Prices are awesome! I've already done a food review, but I need to point out that 602 on Main is at least five things: a local microbrewery, a full bar, a free live music venue with outdoor seating, a restaurant with interesting food, and a place that supports private dining events. It does all five surprisingly well. Downtown Bastrop would be a heck of a lot more boring without it. Wish there were more places like this in town. I recommend the tipsy nun (high abv, slightly sweet), drunken monk (high abv, mildy bitter), or their IPA. read more

This place is a beer joint with a full bar. Some of the tables had mason jars with wilted flowers and some did not. There were cloth napkins which is a big plus. Be careful since the floor has uneven places--one of which I almost tripped on. We had theTempura Shrimp appetizer that was very good. My hubby got the pork chop that looked dry and overcooked with Gouda grits that were plated with an ice cream scope and as thick as mud. The server was pleasant and attentive. The food is really great. The service is hit or miss today at lunch a lady with dark hair who waited on us was seemingly in a very bad mood and wasn't very friendly or warm... I wanted to try the bread pudding to go but it was given to me cold and hard like a brick - I was expecting it warm fluffy and ooey gooey- so I sent it back and she wa irritated we wanted separate checks - I have met the owner and he is so wonderful and friendly and we just love him! I love the Rueben rolls - they do really great catering, as well. On this visit, we were there for the Bastrop Music Festival. As before, their burgers are great, on buns that they get fresh daily from the best bakery in town. As before, however, we did not care for their 602 (home-brew) beers. We ordered a Belgian-style ale and an IPA (the last two we'd tried here weren't on the menu). These weren't flat (like last time), but we did not like the taste, even though we love these styles of beer normally. We drank what we could, then ordered two Stella Artois. One person at our table did like the local beer, but they had ordered a strawberry cream ale that tasted like Strawberry Quik or Frankenberry cereal, which isn't what we look for in a beer. I'm upgrading from 3 to 4 stars for two reasons: the service (which we really appreciated), and the fact that we had such a good time watching live music there. A group of 4 went there for lunch today. The restaurant was perhaps, half full and there was only one waiter. It took a while to place our drink order and the beer (brewed by them) was actually pretty good. The food however was a different story. Three of us ordered the chicken shwarma and the other the chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak looked like it had been fried too long and it looked a little burnt on the edges. The shwarma was simply awful. The pita bread had been left in the panini press too long it was hard as a cracker. The filling was terrible. The chicken was not sliced thin, there was no taziki as you would expect in shwarma, and there was not much flavor except way too much garlic. We were embarassed because we hosted out of town friends there. There are so many other better options in Bastrop, wish we would have picked something else for our guests. read more

After looking at their menu, we decided this would be a great place to try. We walked in and nobody acknowledged us. There was no sign whether to seat yourself or to wait for a hostess so after waiting for a few minutes with no acknowledgment, we went and sat down at an empty table. Again the waitresses and other employees passed us by. It's like we were completely invisible, we waited for almost 20 minutes and not one "have you been helped" or "you should've waited for someone to seat you" nothing... so we got up and left, on the way out there was a couple that was about to go in, so we let them know that we had been ignored, so they decided not to go in either. It was very very, very disappointing that they completely ignore CUSTOMERS who go there for their food and help keep their doors open. I'm absolutely taken aback by how disappointing everything that I had here tonight was. This was my first experience dining here and it will definitely be my last. I ordered a coke to drink, a couple sips in had me asking the waitress for an unsweet tea instead. The mix ratio was all kinds of off on the coke and they somehow succeeded in making it taste like cough syrup. The crawfish chowder that they served was incredibly fishy and thin. The crabcakes they served me were mostly filler, at least from what I ate of them. I stopped about a 3rd of the way through my first crabcake as it was luke warm around the outer edge and cool in the middle. This chicken fried steak was an abomination. it was the toughest chewiest piece of beef I had ever seen outside of jerky, The crust was unable to hold up to the rigorous effort needed to cut through the boot leather inside. if you did manage to get a piece of crust to stay stuck to the meat oh boy get ready. The crust gave an instant burst of greasiness that tasted akin to fast food fries that have never had their grease changed. that grease flavor that coats your mouth and makes everything taste off and awful. The gravy was just bland, sometimes an excellent gravy can make up for other aspects of the meal, but no dice. The hatch green chiles do nothing for a gravy this far gone. The mashed potatoes were one step above instant flakes and only in texture alone, the cheddar mashed potatoes are as basic as you can get on a flavor profile. "Scratch potatoes"? they should scratch this item off the menu, Chef Mic(rowave) putting in work melting all 4 strands of cheese on top of this potato burial mound. save yourself the time and travel and make a pouch of idaho 4 cheese instant spuds instead. I almost gave this place two stars, but there was no redeeming qualities about the food that would ever make me wonder if the other dishes had anything to offer. Came home and wife said I was taking her out. So here we are! The 602 is on Main Street in a charming old building. The decor is nice, inviting. There was a good crowd and some live music outside on the patio. We were seated along a wall filled with art for sale from a local artist. The menu is filled with interesting items and they craft their own beers in addition to regular favorites. We started with the artichoke spinach dip which came out with a nice toasty finish. The cheese on top was actually noticeable, had a good thickness where most places it's barely noticeable. I liked that it had that thick layer. Wifey got a margarita and I tried the 602 Pilsner called Pop My Collar Pilsner. It was citrusy and delicious. Bright flavor. I would say it was like a Blue Moon. For dinner I got the 602 Alfredo which was rotini instead of fettuccine which I thought was nice. I added grilled chicken. I'm glad I added the chicken as the Alfredo was lacked flavor. The chicken added some flavor and saved it. I kinda wish they added fried chicken (maybe they would if I asked). I was kind of dissatisfied by the lack of taste in the sauce. Wifey got the Chicken Fried Steak which she said was delicious. There was quite a bit of excess breading and she said she wished the gravy was on the side instead of wasted on the extra chunks of breading. Wonderful place to chill at and enjoy their craft beers. I fell in love with Jesse's Girl here. There's more than one meaning to that, actually, but I'm referring to the blueberry stout. The staff is so sweet, kind, and helpful that you just want to keep coming back for more. Unfortunately on my second trip while Jesse's girl was with me, it wasn't on tap that time. If I could give no stars I would. Stopped in tonight for the first time on a rainy, 50 degree evening. Hostess asked how many people, and I told her it was just me. She said she didn't have any tables and asked if I wouldn't mind sitting OUTSIDE in the rain and cold or get put on a wait list. I can SEE tables AND empty space at the indoor bar. I just came in for a bowl of soup on a cold night and it was the only place downtown that I searched for that offered soup. I suppose the little bit of money they would've made from me wasn't worth it to them. It's too bad They've decided to put a buck above hospitality or service. I had also planned on checking the place out as my ladies group is planning to have its annual Christmas dinner in Bastrop in the coming weeks, and I was thinking about suggesting this restaurant. Yelp community never disappoints! We stopped in for lunch and totally enjoyed our visit. We weren't sure about the beer so we talked with the owner. He asked what we liked and suggested one and was spot on! We had the Tipsy Nun and Feeling Peachy and really enjoyed them both. Awesome first time experience dining here tonight! We were attracted to this spot when hearing the open mic night talent on the patio. We originally planned on eating at a cafe nearby but upon walking in realized they were closing. We strolled down to 602 and were humbled by the warm welcome. We arrived at 8pm and noticed their closing time of 9 but jokingly assured the server that we'd be quick. Our server Neil was friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. The menu is broken up into two sides of lunch and dinner. I noticed the special written on a chalk board and immediately decided on ordering it. Redfish with saffron lobster creme sauce, jasmine rice and sliced, steamed squash. Let's just say I was very pleased with my selection 'cause...wow! (And my Father is a retired chef!) I also ordered an old fashioned while waiting on our entrees. That had to be the best old fashioned I've had in years! Kudos to the bartender! Although the other staff were cleaning and stocking tables they were still friendly and did not make us feel rushed whatsoever. If it wouldn't have been so humid out, we would've dined outside. Definitely on the to-do list when the weather is cooler! Such a cute old town area revamped and plenty of places to lunch or grab dinner. I definitely plan on a return visit and will bring friends! Has awesome potential- I love the building, the art on the walls, the patio option, the music, the fact they brew in-house for many of their beers. I didn't like that they were "out" of Rueben rolls at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, or that it took the kitchen FOREVER (over 35+ minutes) to bring out ONE person's order (sitting at the bar) and the place wasn't particularly packed. The bar staff were busy entertaining their own friends/significant others and regulars to even notice I was sitting there most of the time. The person taking my orders at the bar didn't even ask about my included salad/soup for the entree I ordered and had to be brought after food was finally brought out. The artichoke dip was good but not worth the price. The chicken fried steak was also good, and liked the chilies added to the gravy. The cocktails were good and nice heavy pour (but not too much). The space could be lovely with its old brick walls and high ceilings, but the furniture is generic and the whole thing felt grungy. The only 602 beer that we ordered was the American Ale and it was fine, and when the waitress suggested a Pilsner, we said great, but that ended up being from Pinthouse, which is basically around the corner from us. I guess we should have clarified that when we said "local" we meant Bastrop specifically. Eye roll. Food took forever to come out even though it was only a kid's meal and some fries. Our daughter's grilled cheese was fine and we were pleasantly surprised that they had grilled up some fresh veggies on the side (we were expecting canned green beans). Our basket of garlic fries was regular fries, many of which were uncooked. Service was friendly but hardly efficient. It's a bummer because this place has so much potential and could really be a destination (like the bookstore) but the whole operation smacked of incompetence and sloppiness. 2.5 stars, rounding down. Meeting an old Army Buddy in Bastrop Texas and wanted something fresh, so we met at 602 on Main. My initial impression was good with a nice bar and choice of Craft Cocktails and Beers. Tried the Crawfish Chowder and it was delicious. Crab Cakes were just okay, had much better elsewhere. The Shrimp and Grits on the other hand was so creamy and delicious, the Smoked Gouda flavor in the Grits made you want to savor every bite, but the real treat was eating the Cajun Garlic Shrimp with the Smoked Gouda Grits, so damn good!! Our waitress was delightful and took great care of us, my only complaint was the Lady Bartender failed to heed my warning to NOT serve my wife when she walked to the bar from our table. I knew my Beautiful Wife had reached her limit and I gave the intercepted the Bartender as my wife was grabbing a bar stool. She served my wife anyway after I walked back to my taband TABC fines bartenders for over serving or serving someone already intoxicated! Wow! This was our first visit and I was so surprised! We went on a Sunday during lunch time. The service was amazing. We had everything we needed within a few minutes of asking. Our drinks and appetizers came out within 5 minutes of ordering. We had the garlic fries which were amazing, the beer was great. Then we ordered our entree's and both got chicken fried steak. Their gravy has green chilies in it and I wasn't sure how that taste would work out but it was amazing! I had the mashed potatoes and my husband had the grits. I'm amazed.
