The steak tasted like frozen pre-cooked meat that had just been reheated in a skillet. The guacamole definitely wasn't fresh, and the cheese tasted like it came straight out of a plastic bag -- not even Kraft quality, more like Great Value. This is for the Bastrop location - next to Bucee's The food and service was fantastic. My wife had Camarones Zarandiados (shrimp in a chipotle cream sauce) - which was tasty but a little too spicy for her taste - still she liked it. I had the Caldo Siete Mares (seafood mix, of shellfish, oysters, crab legs, and fish) - basically a seafood soup in a chipotle broth - it was excellent - although it came out extremely hot - had to let it cool some to enjoy. Drinks: We both started with La Penka - prickly pear margaritas - too sweet - even with Tajin on rim. We switched to Flaquita Rita (really good) and I had the Avocado Margarita - a real surprise how good it was. Highly recommend. I must mention the table-side customized Salsa - quite fresh and good Also the Hand Smashed Guacamole- probably the best we've had Two concerns: parking is very limited and the restaurant was very loud (as mentioned in other reviews) - they really could do with some sound absorption. The spicy salsa was decent and spicy. I also got the queso since it was cheap for happy hour. Wasn't anything to write home about but was still good. We wanted to get out of the house for dinner with guests over the Thanksgiving weekend, and found this spot which is next to the Bastrop Bucees. Other eateries closed at 8pm on Saturday, so we were happy to find this spot that was open later and able to seat a party of five right away. Mariachis were playing, which is a nice bonus. We were seated near a large, rowdy group that provided a lively atmosphere. Once we placed our drink orders, chips, salsa and tasty bean dip brought to the table. We waited quite a while to place our food orders. Once our food arrived, it was delicious and hit the spot. Margaritas were excellent! All in all, dinner was good and we'll return, hopefully to a calmer atmosphere next time. read more

Hands-down best Mexican restaurant in Bastrop, so we keep coming back. Everything we've had has been great, and they have things you can't get at other restaurants. I'd recommend the costillas del sancho, cordero (lamb), caldo sietes mares, molcajetes marino, and queso flameado. The complementary bean dip and tableside salsa are a nice touch, goes great with a beer rita while you wait for your entrees. Went here with my husband and one year old. We had the outdoor patio to ourselves and our kid was able to run around and the staff were so kind and attentive. I got a frozen regular margarita - no complaints! We got the queso fundida and it was no joke the best I've ever had. It never got super solid like others I've had. just so creamy. For dinner, I got the chicken with mole verde and hubs got a combo plate that was nothing to write home about but what you would expect from a combo plate. Updated review, sadly leaving a 1 star. Had to talk to the manager about why an extra charge was added on Patio Marg day (any flavor $5) and why 2 3% charges were added to the bill. Who knows how long those paying with credit cards have paid 6%, but it didn't seem like a new thing. Check your receipts, the manager refunded/modified but it seems really unethical to not tell people they will be charged 6% on credit card transactions. read more

The short of it is the food and drinks here are very good...but first, this review begins with a review brought courtesy of The Rona Virus: This is one of the most COVID adapted restaurants I've been to. It sucks that its a factor in a review but its the world we live in and peace of mind allows us to focus on food (and not the server with his nose out of the mask). Temperature was taken at entrance, hand sanitizer was there, staff was masked and gloved, silverware was packaged in sealed paper wrap and I saw sanitization of tables as guests left. Nooooow, the food. A server will arrive at your table ready to prepare salsa as per your preference. And it is muy deliciosa! I ordered the Pick Two combo with cheese chili relleno and beef taco (r/b were included). The taco was really good with well seasoned beef. The relleno, though, had a lot of liquid that leaked out on my plate, presumably from the poblano. It leaked over onto my taco but the shell was thick enough it didnt get soggy. The relleno was tasty as were the rice and beans. Price-wise the restaurant is a bit on the pricy side. But they do offer dishes of lamb, fish and pork that you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere. I'm looking forward to returning and exploring some new flavahs!! read more

Surprisingly in Bastrop, I was able to find a very authentic Mexican cuisine with top notch margaritas. The burritos or the carnitas plate are my top favorites. Man we love this place. We have been here half a dozen times over the years. We first found the place when on our way east for the weekend and fell in love with it. It is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I know of in this general area. They even have a Mexican style market next door. Every dish we have had tastes great! From the salsa that they custom mix at the table to suit your heat preference to their enchiladas to the freshness of their seafood and fish. This is a fantastic place to go with groups as well. I stopped with about 10 people one afternoon on a weekend and they were able to get us seated quickly and served a great meal. Service always been great and very friendly. Our server this trip had to answer some hard dietary questions from my wife and she didn't know all the answers but didn't get flustered and got the answers for her without getting irritated. This is a great local place and has great food! Family run operation and you can tell. The staff is so friendly no matter how busy they get. You can tell that they are happy where they work, and you don't see that vrey often these days. Having been there numerous times, the food is consistant and always served hot and fresh. I love the salsa cart where you can get your salsa fresh and at the heat level that is good for you. The portions are huge and the price point is is fair and worth it. We are always lucky to get Colt as our waiter and he always has a smile and works his tail off. I love the option of mushroom tacos for those nights, when living in meat country , is refreshing!
