NEIGHBORS KITCHEN & YARD -- BASTROP, TEXAS It's currently approximately $197° in Texas and somehow Doug and I STILL walk into restaurants asking the same ridiculous question: "Can we sit outside?" At Neighbors Kitchen & Yard? YOU ABSOLUTELY WANT TO SIT OUTSIDE. Oh. My. Stars. Their multi-level outdoor space overlooks the Colorado River and has plenty of shade cloth, fans AND misters--which means even those of us determined to dine outdoors during the surface-of-the-sun portion of the Texas calendar can actually enjoy ourselves. Neighbors is located at The Crossing in Bastrop, which is a really cool little destination of its own with other businesses and shopping nearby. But let's get to the important stuff... BEER. CHEESE. DOGS. GREAT SERVICE. We happened to visit while they're trying out a Golden Hour special for September from 4-6 PM. Selected draft beers are $2 off, and appetizers--except wings--are also $2 off. Naturally... We considered it our responsibility to thoroughly investigate both specials. For research purposes, obviously. We tried FOUR different beers. Doug's winner was the Blonde. Mine? The BLUEBERRY BEER over ice. AWWEEEE SHITTTT. That was GOOD. Then came the food. OG Warm Cheese Dip Phenomenal. I would happily sit beside the Colorado River with that cheese dip and a beer and call it dinner. Doug ordered the Brussels sprouts. TO. DIE. FOR. Seriously, we were completely happy with everything we tried. But here's another thing that will get me every single time... They LOVE dogs. Not "we technically allow dogs." DOG FRIENDLY. Our pups were welcomed and immediately received two separate bowls of water. Little details like that tell me a lot about a place. And then there's Sadi, our server. SPECTACULAR. Friendly, attentive and one of those servers who helps turn a good outing into a place you're already talking about visiting again before you've even left. Great food. Great beer. Great specials. Fantastic service. Dogs genuinely welcomed. Beautiful Colorado River views. And an outdoor setup designed by people who apparently understand that some of us are stubborn enough to sit outside in Texas no matter WHAT. We LOVE it here. We will absolutely be back. Which brings us to... TW'S REAL PANTS RATING: -- 5 out of 5 Real Pants Would Doug and I leave the campground and put on real pants to come back? AWWEEEE SHITTTT... apparently we'd put them on in 197° weather. Neighbors didn't just earn all five pairs. They earned 'em with a river view, cold beer, warm cheese dip and water bowls for the dogs. This was our first visit to Neighbor's Kitchen & Yard. Sianna was our server and she was outstanding!! We spent a couple of hours here (on a Saturday) because we were just chillin' and not in a hurry. The covered patio was perfect of a hot July day! We had an appetizer and a couple of Iron Bridge beers first. Then we ordered the Caprese Sandwich and a large pizza that was half "Gettin' figgy wit it" and half "Riverside Veggie". OMG! It was amazing! We also had the whiskey flight, an Old Pro and a Gold Rush. We completely loved everything that we ordered. And again, Sianna was such a great server. Very attentive and friendly without being over the top. We definitely will come back and ask for her next time we visit Bastrop. Great job guys! I can easily see why y'all are voted the best pizza! Nice place! Nice view and great service! Food was good too!!! The young blonde girl who helped us was very attentive and very courteous! We asked for some tips on what to drink and eat and she nailed it!!! The watermelon vodka and the chips with dip "cream cheese veggies " yum!!! We also ordered the meatball sub, the wings and the beer which ch they make was beyond our expectations!!! It was hit but the fans and shade made it better! The only issue were flies didn't let us enjoy, you should get the equipment some restaurants have on walls to attract the flies. This is a chill spot by the river! I would recommend this spot if you want to take a walk on the river afterwards! We went during Christmas time and did the stroll and then got a bite and it worked out perfectly. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of room/tables. Went here with some friends and coworkers for lunch. I loved the outdoor space and vantage point. Theirs a nice outdoor stage and a walking trail. The kindly greet you upon entering and they have plenty of seating. We tried the meatballs and Chicken Pesto Pizza. Both were pretty good. It was very HOT and we had to sit outs do to our dog and we happened to be seated a bit in the sun. As time went on we were fully in the Sun to the point my 10yr old started to feel overheated. We moved our table a bit to get it out of the Sun and the hostess came behind us pushing the table closer to use rearranging the chairs nonstop to the point were we just felt uncomfortable. We decided to pack up our food and leave. Unfortunately our experience was horrible due to the hostess and and a not so great waitress. Wont ever return to this business again and will encourage friends and family to stay away to not waist their time! Since you have refused to reply: Dear Owner/Management, I am writing to formally report an incident involving your General Manager, Cayce Moore, that occurred on the evening of August 1, 2026, in Old Town Bastrop. I left Neighbors Kitchen and Yard more than four months ago and have moved on from my employment there. While attending a friend's birthday celebration, I was unexpectedly approached by Ms. Moore in a public setting. She confronted me regarding matters related to my previous employment and attempted to engage me in a discussion about events from months prior. I made it clear that I was not interested in revisiting those issues and that I had moved on. Despite my attempt to disengage, the interaction created an uncomfortable and disruptive situation in front of my friends and others present. The situation was serious enough that Ms. Moore was asked to leave the group. I believe this conduct was inappropriate and unprofessional, particularly coming from a member of your management team. Former employees should not be confronted in personal settings regarding past workplace matters, and I believe this incident reflects poorly on the standards of professionalism expected from your leadership. I am requesting that this matter be formally reviewed, including speaking with any witnesses and reviewing any available documentation or footage related to the incident. I ask that appropriate steps be taken to address this situation and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Please consider this letter a formal notice that I am preserving my rights and evaluating all available options, including legal action, regarding this matter. I ask that all relevant records related to this incident be preserved. I would appreciate written confirmation that this complaint has been received and that it will be reviewed. We were on our way to the Texas A&M game from San Antonio and came across this gem in the evening. What a great atmosphere with the huge patio, lights and live music. We ordered the artichoke dip, sweet sriracha wings and getting figgy with it pizza from the shack down at the patio and found our table. This isn't just a place to grab lunch or dinner. It's an experience. Nestled behind Chestnut st in historic Bastrop, overlooking the Colorado River, you will find the best meatball you've ever had in your life. I was with a large party and we were seated on an outdoor deck area that overlooks a lovely greenbelt and the Colorado river. I was uncertain about outdoor seating in June, but they had lots of fans that dispense a light mist to help cool the area. The drinks were excellent, I had a margarita on the rocks with tajin rim and it was tasty and refreshing. The food was fabulous! I highly recommend the meatballs. Everyone in our party could not get enough of them. I will be back to try the wings, they looked delish. Misty was our server and I am still in awe over her. She went out of her way to make sure everyone in our (very large) party was taken care of. There were dozens of us and I'm not even sure how she managed to do it but I realized afterwards, I never waited long for anything. Misty was always nearby and so kind and attentive. Im not sure how she took care of so many people at once, it was amazing, honestly. Ive never seen such efficiency and I don't know how she did it. We actually added a well done not to ensure the pizza was not undercooked and my husband physically went to pick it up. His only mistake was not looking at the pizza before he left the restaurant. Visited this place on a date night. Happened to research that they had some blues live music this specific day so we decided to check it out. First time here. Parking was a bit tricky we weren't really sure where to park we parked on a high top part of where there was stairs to go down and a really long deck to walk to see the live music im really glad I did not wear heels or uncomfortable shoes because the walk down was a bit much. My wife and I were in town from Houston for a weekend away. Stopped in early evening for a drink and a snack. Sat out on the patio full of fans keepin' in cool. Our server Dee had the personality and energy that would have us coming back as regulars if we were local. My Aggie hat drew the attention of what turned out to be the owner Justin. We proceeded to have a wonderful conversation on the state of college football while we waited for our pizza. Which was delicious! And a cherry on top for me, a little live music. Just want to make sure everyone here know what kind of Neighbor that Neighbors restaurant is... Did you know that the businesses that surround Neighbors in the little buildings cannot have customer parking only for THEIR business or tow away cars taking up spots for their own customers? That would be because the same people that own Neighbors own those buildings and want restaurant patrons to be able to park there. Did you also know that if you have a flat tire or car trouble in one of their parking lots and call a tow truck that Neighbors will call the police on the tow truck for "blocking" the parking lot?
