TLDR: Charming and very kid-friendly restaurant with delicious comfort food and friendly service. What a pleasant surprise! Came here on a whim and loved it. First of all, it's very kid-friendly! Almost every family that walked in had small children. They have high chairs, crayons/coloring pages, and a kids menu. The kids menu deserves a kudos! Usually, I expect bare minimum but they really invested effort into the food. The grilled cheese came on big fluffy buttery pieces of bread and was something I'd expect to receive from the main menu. The chicken tenders were big and juicy and delicious too. Kids devoured their grilled cheeses (to be fair, they've never met a grilled cheese they didn't like but that's what makes the restaurant's above-and-beyond effort more admirable). I enjoyed my food as well. I got the chicken-friend steak. I rarely eat fried food -- this was worth it. Delicious. Also the show-stealer was the Brussels sprouts side! Fantastic. Perfectly browned and crisped (not overdone/too blackened like many places do). Mashed potato side was tasty too. Finally, the service was excellent. Super nice and attentive staff. Parking is very easy -- free lot next door. read more

This is the absolute cutest little diner - a hidden gem! The dining room and gardens surrounding the building lend old world charm, making you feel like you're eating at Grandma & Grandpa's cabin. My husband had a cheeseburger and I had the chicken salad sandwich. Both were yummy! Our server, Kelly, was helpful and attentive. We will definitely eat here again when we pass through Bastrop! read more

This restaurant is really laid-back so you don't have to dress up. It's good For small get-togethers with Friends or family dinner. The leading is good. All the servers and hosts are welcoming.. It's exactly what you would picture in a small town. The food was very good the portion size bigger than average. the taste of the food was delicious. They served from burgers to the Friday special prime rib to seafood and all was delicious.. I'm glad we came here the night before our volunteer.. the price average for dinner. I definitely would recommend coming and next time in I'm in Bastrop. I'll be sure to come back here. read more

We went here for a date night after a day on the river. It was perfect. The food was amazing. We had the chips & queso appetizer. My husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I had the pan-fried trout with garlic mashed potatoes & green beans. He had the peach cobbler & ice cream while I had the carrot cake for desserts. We left stuffed, of course, after all that food, but it was so good, I couldn't say no to dessert. The sweet potato fries were amazing. So was the complimentary salsa that came with the chips. The trout plate was so great. The wait staff were very friendly & the place was just adorable & situated in the heart of downtown. I'll definitely go back when I'm visiting Bastrop again. read more

The food as always was the best and service second to none. Highly recommend this place.

After a weekend of camping and hiking, I was starving--and this cheeseburger hit the spot! Parking on a Sunday was a battle, but worth every bite. Juicy, flavorful, and that special Dijon sauce? Game changer. I usually never finish a whole burger, but this time I did. Cozy spot, great service, and a burger that'll make you forget how tired you are. read more

I ordered lunch to go today. From ordering to walking out with my food, my experience was amazing. The person taking my order was polite, friendly and courteous. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and my food was ready. When I I left I was told bye by at least two employees. The food was still hot and fresh when I arrived back at work. The way it was placed in the to go container was well thought out and was amazing. I got the chicken fried steak with garlic mashed potatoes and green beans and they separated the chicken fried steak with foil so I did not receive a soggy steak, and they put plenty of gravy on the side in a container. Thank you for the amazing service and food! read more

Camping at Bastrop State Park and went into town for a Mardi Gras festival. Ate lunch here. Very popular and so very crowded. Our waitress was very good but very busy. They have inside and outdoor seating. Wooden walls mixed with corrugated tin to give a country rustic atmosphere. It is a nice atmosphere and we had a really nice lunch. The modified the hamburger steak for me and removed the gravy and added cheese and grilled onions, instant smash burger. I would recommend them and definitely eat here again! read more

We love cute small town restaurants, and this hit the spot! From when I walked in and saw the dessert case, I knew I had to save room for dessert, so I ordered the chef salad for my main course. My husband tried their burger with cream cheese on it, because that sounded unique. He added jalapeños, to make kind of like a jalapeño popper flavor profile. My salad was as expected, but a little scant on toppings. My husband thought his burger was a good choice. We might have to try to make our own cream cheese burgers again! I asked our server what their best dessert was, and she said the brownie. Fortunately, that was the first thing that had caught my eye, and I was secretly just hoping for confirmation that it was good. Not only was it good, it was huge! I took some home. Gracie's is another reason on the list of reasons to go out to Bastrop! read more

Overall, a nice experience for a first-time visit. The staff was attentive, the food was reasonably priced, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I ordered the catfish platter, but the fish tasted a little off to me. Unfortunately, I ended up with food poisoning later that evening, which was disappointing after an otherwise positive visit. read more

So I love supporting local businesses when I go to small towns, that have a lot of history. I was excited when we found Grace Miller. Their website looked amazing, and they also had a full bar. We called ahead to see what the wait was, because in Bastrop, especially older buildings, they tend to have limited space. We were told that there was plenty of space for our party of 3 and we were right around the corner. When we walked in, it was packed, and we had to sit at a little table, because one person was sitting at a 4 top. Our waitress came over and gave us menus and said she would be with us shortly. Probably about 5 to 10 minutes later, another group of 4 came in and sat right across from us, and they actually had their order taken before us. Then the waitress came over to us and said, did you hear what I told them, when she talked about the specials. We said no, and she went ahead and repeated the specials. I ordered the grilled trout, with green beans and the mashed potatoes. My husband got the chicken fried steak and my kid got the catfish platter. My trout was pretty good. It was seasoned well. My mashed potatoes were decent. But what I didn't know when I ordered the green beans is that they have meat in them and I am pescatarian, so I asked for another side. I chose corn and it was brought out quickly, but when we got the receipt , I was disappointed because they charged me extra to get another side even though I did not eat the green beans. My daughter's catfish came with 2 filets. One was cooked well, but 1 was undercooked. She got French fries for her side and they were good. My husband's chicken fried steak was okay. It wasn't necessarily seasoned as much as he would have liked it, but no major complaints. He also got sweet potato fries for his side. But they were cooked to the point of almost being burnt. So personally, will we come here again? Probably not, we were not impressed with the service and the food was just mediocre. I have gone to other places in Bastrop and had much better food and dining experiences. read more

Food was so delish! Fried okra, chicken fried steak, even chicken salad sandwich were incredible. Our server Ava was great! We ate in the patio with a fresh breeze blowing. The food was pretty good except the canned vegetables. Service was excellent. The ambiance was ruined by the chain smokers blowing cancer through out the patio dining area. We were enjoying a beautiful day and fresh air and the cancer sticks ruined the whole meal. read more

We visited Gracie's last Saturday night and sat on the patio. We enjoyed the music of The Clutch Kings. We have been here several times before and love the atmosphere. I did not get her name but we had the best waitress but also interacted with the other servers. They all love their job and it shows in their service. The music was great as was the food. We had chicken fried chicken and fried shrimp and loved it. We always enjoy watching the locals interact. It is truly a great place! We will be back. read more

We love the food and atmosphere! However, we brought my brother there last night and he was staring at the wall.... a cluster of 2" cockroaches crawling everywhere! A lot of people told us that we really needed to try this place, but I was disappointed. It is not a very big place and we did have to wait a while to be seated, but we expected that as soon as we got there. They do have a nice menu of home-cooked food, but everything that we ordered was just mediocre. There were three of us and we all agreed the food was OK but we didn't really "love" anything we ate. That was my one and only visit, and maybe I just went there on a bad day, but I don't plan on returning. There are too many other really good places in the Bastrop area. read more

Love me some Gracie's! The staff are personable and down to earth, the home cooked food reminds me of my grandmother's - very comforting and yummy (especially the chicken fried steak), and it's located right in a cute nook of downtown Bastrop. Cute place with great chicken fried steak, cold beer, delicious fried green beans, and housemade desserts. Seems as if the cfs has won many awards and I have to say it was yummy. Gracie's is a great place for good home country cooking. I brought my family from California and every visit since they've asked to go back. Servers are always friendly and accommodating. My go to is the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and a salad. The are now booking Valentines Day special menu items. The only complaint I have is smoking on the patio while eating with little children around. read more

Man the reviews on this place were legit. Was super excited to try it out, I mean x amount of years best chicken fried steak in Bastrop, you have to come here right? Let's start off with this place is small. Not like on it's cute and quaint, no man it's tiny. They have a patio you can sit at that makes it a lot larger but this is Texas and summer. I'll take the somewhat air conditioned inside. It was a bit warm in there to be quite fair. To the food; Unfortunately I wanted meatloaf. But that's a weekly special only on Wednesdays. But wait how about the pork dish? That's Fridays special. The pot roast? You guessed it another nights special. So here I am trying to decide what I want to eat since they have no website and no visible menu online (I fixed that for y'all with photos). Went with the hamburger steak. Figured mashed potatoes, gravy, what's not to like. Apparently a lot. I am a fairly healthy person. I don't eat sweets but once a month, I rarely eat bread, and I don't like super salty food. That being said their mashed potatoes was void of any seasoning at all. The gravy which is normally salty everywhere on planet earth was also lacking salt. The hamburger steak? No seasoning at all. I used the salt and pepper shaker throughout the meal just to break the bland. My water weight tomorrow is going to suck but it needed copious amounts of salt. It wasn't particularly busy, but food seemed to take a while to come out. Our waitress was super new so there were some service things that will come with time here. Super nice too. I summarize; very meh for me. Wasn't what the build up online was about. But at least folks have a menu now. You're welcome :) read more

Great food, cute restaurant! Stopped at a busy time, lunchtime on a Saturday. We sat outside on the front deck and tried the Chicken Fried Chicken. Always like to compare with other restaurants and this was one of the best! Big size, thicker breast, tender and not all breading. Also with mashed potatoes and green beans. Delicious! Desserts all look awesome! What a difficult decision but we had the yummy turtle cheesecake and the best piece of Carrot Cake with Cream cheese frosting! Highly recommend Gracies out here in downtown Bastrop!! read more

Good service, food is below average. Appetizer: fried green beans and chips with salsa. Both were adequate, they didn't use a food service salsa, it tasted fresh. Fried green beans were food service prepped, but tasted good, we ate almost all the apps. Meals: burger and chicken salad sandwich, both with sweet potato fries. Burger - lacked flavor, Place like this needs to grind and flavor their meats. Burger was boring and dry. Ate half, left the other half there. Wife's chicken sandwich was good, not fantastic, but I tasted it, and it was ok. Chicken salad consisted of Large pieces of chicken, which means chicken salad coverage on sides of sandwich bread is sparse, but just right in middle. Sweet potato fries were not crispy, and tasted poor. We left on plate. Desert, we were so exited. The cakes looked great, but we were wrong. Carrot cake is supplied by food service and tasted perfumie. Wife and I both agreed it tasted weird. The pecan halves on the outside frosting were soft and chewy. Drinks: large menu of beers Final verdict, we would not come again or Recommend for anyone. Final bill with tip for two people: $56 total, including tax, tipped $9. read more

I had no expectations walking in, just hoping it was good. It's summer, so it's a busy time of year. Mcakinze was our waiitress, fantastic! Extra: Food was temperature hot, thumbs up. She brought out our greek salad, then our catfish platter with green beans. So delicious. We asked for 2 or 3 things, and she and her co-workers all brought my wife's requests, all having fun at work. The night was rainy, huricaine Beryl, but it was a cool July night. First time downtown Bastrop dining! Right there in the heart of the city and county seat. We stopped at Gracie's upon referral and during busy lunchtime. They seated us immediately. Our waitress today was very attentive and personable. Real Texan hospitality for sure....she's definitely meant to deal with customers! We tried the Chicken Fried Steak special, since these folks are known for the best. Good lunch portions and popping flavors. Our steaks were very tender, nice touch of garlic flavor and battered perfectly. Fries, garlic mashed potatoes and fried okra were amazingly good and so was the garlic toast for cleaning up the gravy on the plate! A delicious small piece of lemon cake was served with our meal. We did not leave hungry. Really cute decor inside. Good job to the fine folks over at Gracie's! We'll be back next time we are in the area. read more

What a great little restaurant. My wife and I came for lunch. The place was busy but we were seated right away. My wife had the catfish dish that came with rice and okra. She stated the okra was the best she has ever had.... I don't eat okra myself... not a fan but the way they made it was perfect. I had the chicken fried steak. I did not realize at the time that Gracie Miller's was named to have the "best chicken fried steak" in Bastrop" and I can say it was pretty damn good.... They know how to make it! The fry on the steak stayed on the steak and wasn't a completely separate piece that broke away from the meat when you cut into it.... Great job Chef! The service was great.... All the waitresses had that southern politeness... saying honey, sweetie or darling.... And it was authentic and not manufactured. Gave us a chuckle. But a really great place, great location right off of the beautiful Bastrop main street... and plenty of parking. read more
