TLDR: Charming and very kid-friendly restaurant with delicious comfort food and friendly service. What a pleasant surprise! Came here on a whim and loved it. First of all, it's very kid-friendly! Almost every family that walked in had small children. They have high chairs, crayons/coloring pages, and a kids menu. The kids menu deserves a kudos! Usually, I expect bare minimum but they really invested effort into the food. The grilled cheese came on big fluffy buttery pieces of bread and was something I'd expect to receive from the main menu. The chicken tenders were big and juicy and delicious too. Kids devoured their grilled cheeses (to be fair, they've never met a grilled cheese they didn't like but that's what makes the restaurant's above-and-beyond effort more admirable). I enjoyed my food as well. I got the chicken-friend steak. I rarely eat fried food -- this was worth it. Delicious. Also the show-stealer was the Brussels sprouts side! Fantastic. This is the absolute cutest little diner - a hidden gem! The dining room and gardens surrounding the building lend old world charm, making you feel like you're eating at Grandma & Grandpa's cabin. This restaurant is really laid-back so you don't have to dress up. It's good For small get-togethers with Friends or family dinner. The leading is good. All the servers and hosts are welcoming.. It's exactly what you would picture in a small town. The food was very good the portion size bigger than average. the taste of the food was delicious. We went here for a date night after a day on the river. It was perfect. The food was amazing. We had the chips & queso appetizer. My husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. I had the pan-fried trout with garlic mashed potatoes & green beans. He had the peach cobbler & ice cream while I had the carrot cake for desserts. We left stuffed, of course, after all that food, but it was so good, I couldn't say no to dessert. The sweet potato fries were amazing. So was the complimentary salsa that came with the chips. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and my food was ready. When I I left I was told bye by at least two employees. The food was still hot and fresh when I arrived back at work. The way it was placed in the to go container was well thought out and was amazing. So I love supporting local businesses when I go to small towns, that have a lot of history. I was excited when we found Grace Miller. Their website looked amazing, and they also had a full bar. We called ahead to see what the wait was, because in Bastrop, especially older buildings, they tend to have limited space. We were told that there was plenty of space for our party of 3 and we were right around the corner. When we walked in, it was packed, and we had to sit at a little table, because one person was sitting at a 4 top. Our waitress came over and gave us menus and said she would be with us shortly. Probably about 5 to 10 minutes later, another group of 4 came in and sat right across from us, and they actually had their order taken before us. Then the waitress came over to us and said, did you hear what I told them, when she talked about the specials. We said no, and she went ahead and repeated the specials. I ordered the grilled trout, with green beans and the mashed potatoes. My husband got the chicken fried steak and my kid got the catfish platter. My trout was pretty good. It was seasoned well. My mashed potatoes were decent. But what I didn't know when I ordered the green beans is that they have meat in them and I am pescatarian, so I asked for another side. I chose corn and it was brought out quickly, but when we got the receipt , I was disappointed because they charged me extra to get another side even though I did not eat the green beans. My daughter's catfish came with 2 filets. One was cooked well, but 1 was undercooked. She got French fries for her side and they were good. My husband's chicken fried steak was okay. It wasn't necessarily seasoned as much as he would have liked it, but no major complaints. He also got sweet potato fries for his side. But they were cooked to the point of almost being burnt. So personally, will we come here again? Probably not, we were not impressed with the service and the food was just mediocre. We visited Gracie's last Saturday night and sat on the patio. We enjoyed the music of The Clutch Kings. We have been here several times before and love the atmosphere. I did not get her name but we had the best waitress but also interacted with the other servers. They all love their job and it shows in their service. The music was great as was the food. A lot of people told us that we really needed to try this place, but I was disappointed. It is not a very big place and we did have to wait a while to be seated, but we expected that as soon as we got there. They do have a nice menu of home-cooked food, but everything that we ordered was just mediocre. There were three of us and we all agreed the food was OK but we didn't really "love" anything we ate. The staff are personable and down to earth, the home cooked food reminds me of my grandmother's - very comforting and yummy (especially the chicken fried steak), and it's located right in a cute nook of downtown Bastrop. So here I am trying to decide what I want to eat since they have no website and no visible menu online (I fixed that for y'all with photos). Went with the hamburger steak. Figured mashed potatoes, gravy, what's not to like. Apparently a lot. I am a fairly healthy person. I don't eat sweets but once a month, I rarely eat bread, and I don't like super salty food. That being said their mashed potatoes was void of any seasoning at all. The gravy which is normally salty everywhere on planet earth was also lacking salt. The hamburger steak? No seasoning at all. I used the salt and pepper shaker throughout the meal just to break the bland. My water weight tomorrow is going to suck but it needed copious amounts of salt. First time downtown Bastrop dining! Right there in the heart of the city and county seat. We stopped at Gracie's upon referral and during busy lunchtime. They seated us immediately. Our waitress today was very attentive and personable. Real Texan hospitality for sure....she's definitely meant to deal with customers! We tried the Chicken Fried Steak special, since these folks are known for the best. Good lunch portions and popping flavors. Our steaks were very tender, nice touch of garlic flavor and battered perfectly. Fries, garlic mashed potatoes and fried okra were amazingly good and so was the garlic toast for cleaning up the gravy on the plate! A delicious small piece of lemon cake was served with our meal. What a great little restaurant. My wife and I came for lunch. The place was busy but we were seated right away. My wife had the catfish dish that came with rice and okra. She stated the okra was the best she has ever had.... I don't eat okra myself... not a fan but the way they made it was perfect. I had the chicken fried steak. I did not realize at the time that Gracie Miller's was named to have the "best chicken fried steak" in Bastrop" and I can say it was pretty damn good.... They know how to make it! The fry on the steak stayed on the steak and wasn't a completely separate piece that broke away from the meat when you cut into it.... Great job Chef! The service was great.... All the waitresses had that southern politeness... saying honey, sweetie or darling.... And it was authentic and not manufactured. Gave us a chuckle.
