We were in Smithville for a shopping trip to Consuela when we decided to get something for lunch. This restaurant has many options of entrees. I have the Taco Salad with chicken with salsa as dressing. The restaurant interior is decorated with memorabilia from movies filmed in Smithville. My favorites are the items from Hope Floats.

Anyone that gives pockets Grill less than five star simply doesn't understand with good food is. They're probably used to cheap fast food, probably something like soda and nuggets. Pocket grill is absolutely amazing. Let me tell you what, the burgers wings and pizza are top notch. I will go into detail below. Food: 5/5 The food here is simply amazing. I went with their seven dollar lunch special which was a burger with cheese some fries. The burger was grilled to perfection and very tasty. The fries were exceptionally well, very crispy crunchy. I had a bacon to my burger amazing. We also got some wings as an appetizer. Let me tell you what, the wings here are absolutely amazing. The wings are humongous, they are full of flavor and they are very fresh. Someone at my table got pizza and it look really good as well. That will be the next thing I try when I'm in town. I was blown away by Pockets Grille. I'm telling you right now anyone to give this place five stars less. Or less than five stars you simply don't know good food. This food is great. I will stop here every single time that I'm in Smithville. This will be put into my Smithville rotation. Or if you're on the way to Austin do yourself a favor and stop. Customer service: the customer service was absolutely great. The lady work on the cash register was very personable and took good care of us. The food came out quick. I really don't know how this place got a few bad reviews. Because I'm telling you right now it's a five-star experience.

Always good food, but no longer can eat foods fried in vegetable or seed oils. Not healthy! Beef Tallow would be great!

And at least they don't oversalt everything with Fiesta seasoning like some places do. They don't have a liquor license but they serve beer, wine and frozen margaritas, which aren't bad but they're officially "wineritas" because they don't have tequila in them. But my wife likes them. The interior space is pretty nice, especially the Eastern room. But some of the booths are old and really need new cushions in them. I'm hoping they invest in this place when the new, nearby community opens up and they gain new patrons. If it improves, we'll come here more often. It has potential. That said, we were disappointed on this visit. The waiter literally pulled something out of my drink with his fingers before serving it to me, hoping I wouldn't notice. Who does that? If something's fallen into it, just take it back to the kitchen and get another one. Don't dip your fingers into guests' drinks. Please. The guacamole was interesting. Just unseasoned, mashed up avocado. No onion. No serrano peppers. Little to no salt or lime. Diced tomatoes were served on the side (as not to water down the guac), and it was served over shredded iceberg lettuce. I did taste fresh. And there was salt on the table if you wanted it. I guess I just expected it to be more prepared. It would have been a nice respite from the heat if our meal was spicy. But we've never had anything there that was spicy.

The food: where to even start.....I hit the jackpot here. The salsa tasted like it was freshly made and served warm, so so good. The refried beans (which I don't typically order) were hands down the best I've ever had. The enchiladas were top notch, full of flavor and not overly salty. Honestly, I have nothing negative to say, it's a must try when in Bastrop!!

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING -- BEST MEXICAN FOOD ANYWHERE…read more If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.

The friendly ladies behind the counter of this tiny food stand made us feel welcome. The prices…read morewere fair and the portions were generous (large, meaty, filling tacos for $2.50 to $3 each). We tried a variety of tacos, including breakfast tacos and we experienced tlacoyos for the first time (similar to gorditas). Outdoor seating only, in a rustic, rural environment, including a rooster roaming around between the umbrellaed picnic tables. The food is more typical of a ranch house family meal than of restaurant-style Tex-Mex. For example, they don't whisk their eggs before they scramble them. They just crack them directly into the skillet and kind of mix it together slightly with the spatula as they cook. They had both red and green salsa available, but both were very mild, and thin enough for a squeeze bottle. We didn't notice any chips, salsa bowls, guacamole, jalapeños or lime wedges. And none of the flavors were amped up. It just all came across as the typical home cooking they'd been raised on. But that has its own charm. And the tortillas (flour or white corn) all seemed homemade They have sodas, horchata and aguas frescas (no beer), or coffee (instant, I believe). But don't plan to stay too long or drink too much coffee, as there is no public restroom here.
