Diner-style Mexican food. They have a great affordable breakfast menu (american and mexican). I tried el patrón from the fiesta breakfast menu: the marinated grilled steak was tender, not stringy. The chicharron ranchero salsa for the eggs was very good, so next time I will try their chicharron plate. They also have some small american breakfast plates for $5 and $6. Prices are impressively low. I've only been here for breakfast (twice). They do have whole host of breakfast options, both traditional American and Mexican. Their chips and salsa are good. My breakfast came with a grilled jalapeño, which was a nice touch. Portions are fine. If you want to feed a table of eight inexpensively, this is certainly an option. They also have daily lunch specials M-F. The food wasn't bad, either. I'm not saying it was good, particularly -- at least not what we ordered -- but it wasn't bad. We certainly think it's better than Anita's. Our food took a really long time to come out. In fairness, a table of six and a table of eight ordered just before we did, but we sat there for a really long time after eating our chips and salsa. The hostess was sweet and friendly. But why did each table have a weekday lunch menu (on a Saturday), standing 11" tall in a metal basket (obstructing views); and why, above each menu, did they clip on a large placard with the table number? Can the wait staff not memorize table numbers like every other restaurant? The waitress was okay, though she certainly could have been more attentive. And since I don't speak Spanish, it's preferable to be asked how I like my eggs cooked and other questions in English. Of course, none of that cost them a star. But there were a few things that did. The interior looks like it was established decades ago and hasn't been touched by anything but age since. It looked clean. But it had a bit if a dank aroma we noticed when we were standing at the counter, which we had to do in order to pay. They didn't tell us that, but they never brought a check and apparently that's how it's done. But the counter top is old and is so skinny that there's not enough room to fill out your tip and sign your bill. They have to hand you a phone book for that. They really need to adjust the acoustics and sound. The place was wired for music, but apparently that system is no longer working. So they had music playing, but only at the front counter, and we'd been seated in the large back room. That room is an acoustic nightmare with sound just bouncing all over the place. And with no music, I could hear every conversation in the room like it was at my own table. Finally, they did not season my over-easy eggs and they did not season my spouse's Mexican Omelet. Now we understand why they keep salt and pepper on the table. And there were things in the menu I didn't quite understand. I love a good Cubano. But why add bologna to a Cubano? All that said, if you're looking for very low prices with pretty decent food, and ambiance isn't important, then you might check it out for breakfast or maybe for a $6.99 lunch special. read more

Excellent! I loved the salsa that came with the chips we were given when we first sat down and immediately knew I had found a new favorite. I had the huevos con nopales and couldn't believe the large serving. It was wonderful. My husband had the country fried steak with eggs. The steak was tender and the sourdough toast was extra tasty! We will be back for sure. read more

Delicious, inexpensive, authentic hole-in-the-wall Mexican dive restaurant. The only places for good Mexican food in my opinion. The divier, the better. Friendly, fast service. Menu full of all the good stuff. Seat yourself. You'll have a table number on your table. Pay the cashier on your way out by telling them your number. Easy system. Delicious food. The migas verdes off the breakfast menu was superb. Eggs. Cheese. Chorizo. Tortilla chips. Sauce. Served with potatoes and beans. Flour tortillas to sop all that goodness up. It's good Mexican food done right. All the locals swear by this place, which is always a good sign. And the chips and salsa were some of the best I've had here in TX. The waitress was very friendly and taught us some Spanish while we waited. 1st the coffee was not as strong as I liked but I do like my coffee with a little kick. The waitress was good with keeping up with the refills. Now the food I am sorry no pictures , but I was hungry and well I freaking dove right in. This place has a delicious breakfast for very cheap. The service was great! Food came out quickly and I never saw the bottom of my cup of coffee. I had bacon egg and cheese taco and chorizo egg and cheese (favorite). My daughter ordered the waffle plate with egg and sausage. Man that sausage Patti is delicious. Highly recommended. We went for dinner a few months back and I liked the tortilla soup. Recently we went for breakfast because word around town has it that it's fantastic for breakfast. The parking lot only had a couple of cars when we arrived fairly early, but by the time we left it was almost full. I was full and really enjoyed my Huevos con chorizo. It came with two hot flour tortillas, home fries, and refried beans, which were exceptionally good! While my wife didn't care for the sauce on her omlette, the rest of it seemed to be ok. It even came with avacado slices. Her hash browns were exceptional. I tasted them and loved them. A friend had bacon and eggs. He was happy. To make up for my wife not eating much, they took her meal off the bill. They bent over backwards to please us. The service was good and I had my coffee filled multiple times without me asking. True, it may not be the best atmoshpere, but it's a typical "hole in the wall" with good food and good people. read more

I come here for the breakfast tacos, and horchata. The tacos are always great, sometimes can be a bit greasy. The horchata is dead on. It's not fine dinning, but could be a lot worse. They have a drive through window, however it's not like that have certain food, you order anything but you will have a few minutes to wait. read more

Ah, back to my roots for my 100th review (as in, back to reviewing a restaurant in the town where I actually live)! So last night I decided to let my husband pick where/what we should eat. This was one of the options he mentioned, and it sounded good to me too, so it was on. We stopped by my mom's place beforehand, and she said she wanted to go with us. We all headed to Corral Lozano. When we got there we were happy to see credit card decals in the window, and even happier to see that they had a special of 3 beef or cheese enchiladas with tea for around $6. The restaurant was bigger than I thought. When we got there there were only a couple of other customers, who seemed to have positioned themselves in a way conducive to watching the program playing on the TV (Sanford and Son, awesome!), but as we ate, 2 other couples showed up to eat. My husband ordered the special (with beef) and a small caldo de res, my mom ordered a combo plate with 2 beef enchiladas and a tamale, and I ordered chicken ranchero enchiladas. Mom and I had a bit of a hard time deciding because the menu is so big. This place reminded me of what the Jalisco restaurant in Bastrop used to be like when I started going, since the menu was so extensive and prices were so cheap. Food was good for the most part. Salsa was good, kinda peppery, included cilantro (which we like). Chips were decent, very yellow, given in sparse quantities (but waitstaff were happy to refill). My enchiladas were very good but I did find a big chicken bone (like, bigger than a dime) in them, so watch out. Mom liked her food ... when I tried her enchiladas I noticed that the beef seemed to have been cooked with a lot of cumin ... I probably would've gotten tired of that had I had a whole plate. My husband must have liked his enchilada plate because it was cleaned within 5 minutes. He liked his soup as well (as expected it had a huge chunk of meat, and some huge chunks of vegetables, some familiar and some unfamiliar)... it came with a plate of cantaloupe, rice, and pico, so it was a light meal in itself. Speaking of, the rice and beans were very good, though my husband thought the beans were at a bit too smooth of a texture. Flour tortillas were homemade, corn were not. Meals were listed as coming with tortillas, but we ended up having to ask for them. No big deal though. We were all really, really full at the end of our meal. The best part was, again, our meal totals. My mom paid 8.65 for her meal and coffee. My meal, and my husbands meal and a half came out to slightly over $18. For the amount and quality of food we got, that's really great. We'll probably be back in a few weeks, after we've rotated through the usual roster of Mexican food in Bastrop. read more

We passed by this place on Saturday morning and the parking lot was packed, so we decided to come by for breakfast on Monday, making the assumption that a lot of cars meant good food. Upon arrival, we were pleased to see that half the clientele was of Mexican heritage and that's usually a good thing at Mex joints. I went with my usual litmus test huevos rancheros and my wife had a couple of breakfast tacos. The huevos rancheros were mediocre. The chef overcooked the eggs, the sauce had one little piece of onion and one little piece of bell pepper and was otherwise no more interesting than a can of tomato sauce. The potatoes were, at best, lukewarm. The beans were excellent. I tried both the red and green salsas on the side. The red was bland and tasted like it had a dash of floor cleaning solvent in it. While the green was hot (as in spicy hot), it lacked flavor. I'm not much of a fan of Jalisco in Bastrop, but it's a lot better than this place. Guess I'll have to continue to make the long drive to Las Jaliscienses at 290/35 if I want good Mex. read more

I am writing this review in English and in Spanish. This restaurant is terrible. We waited 45 minutes for our food that never came. Our waitress only came to us twice: one to take our food order when dropping off our drinks then 30 minutes later to finally bring one soup that was ordered on the side. We waited some more thinking the food would come out but it didn't. Their excuse was that the restaurant was too busy at the time we came in and that there weren't enough cooks. The truth in my opinion is that our waitress forgot to put our order in and would not confess that she forgot. We would not be as mad or had left abruptly had she told the truth because saying there are not enough cooks on a Sunday afternoon to serve those coming out of church is a lie. This is also true because it does not take 30 minutes to serve a small bowl of soup and to check in on our 6 person party for the first time since bringing drinks. My 4 year old niece left the restaurant crying because they forgot about her too! Do not ever come here unless you want to be lied to and forgotten about! Este restaurante es terrible. Esperamos 45 minutos para nuestra comida que nunca llegó. Nuestra camarera sólo vino a nosotros dos veces: uno para llevar nuestra orden de comida cuando dejar nuestras bebidas y luego 30 minutos más tarde para finalmente llevar una sopa que estaba ordenado en el lado. Esperamos algunos más pensando la comida que salir, pero no. Su excusa era que el restaurante estaba demasiado ocupado en el momento en que llegamos y que no había suficientes cocineros. La verdad en mi opinión es que nuestra camarera se olvidó de poner nuestra orden y no confieso que se olvidó. No estaríamos tan enojados o habíamos dejado abruptamente si ella hubiera dicho la verdad porque decir que no hay suficientes cocineros en un domingo por la tarde para servir a los que salen de la iglesia es una mentira. Esto también es cierto porque no toma 30 minutos para servir un pequeño tazón de sopa y para el registro en nuestro grupo de 6 personas por primera vez desde traer bebidas.
