I ordered carnitas and the me meat looked like an undercooked chopped pork shoulder instead of shredded or stewed pork. The sauce was good but couldn't cover the taste and toughness of the meat. I've never had pork cooked so poorly. I didn't finish my meal and will not be returning. Even my diet coke tasted rancid, like the lines were dirty. The bathroom was covered in urine and one urinal was covered by a black plastic trash bag. I'm shocked that a restaurant can operate in that condition. We simply love Morelia's. It's our go to for Friday night Mexican food and margaritas. Their stuffed avocado with ground beef and the soup that accompanies the meal are excellent. Ok, so this used to be a favorite spot. Consistent. Good. Great service. Lately, it's gone down hill a little. I won't cross it off the list of restaurants I will go to but it has fallen off the high pedestal I used to have it on. Somewhere along the line a new management took over. The menu is the same, but the quality has dropped a little. I usually can't stop raving about my chimichanga with fajita beef, but the meat is...different, like maybe not the same cut, a little less tender and more stringy. It was still good, the taste was good, cheesy and fried to a crisp crunchy goodness, but, just not what it used to be. Wifeh mentioned her Mexican Martini was not the best, but honestly, that depends on which bartender makes them and can vary. I got a mango margarita which I liked, she didn't. She also tried a banana margarita, don't ask me why, she said banana sounded good at the time. While the mango was made with a fruit puree, the banana was made with a liqueur and it was basically like drinking rubbing alcohol. All burn, no flavor. The waitress removed it from the bill at least as we only tried a few sips of that. The kids had no complaints on their chicken fajita tacos and quesadillas. The service was good, the staff didn't have a united appearance though. At one point a teen in a regular tshirt asked us something and it took a moment to realize she wanted to refill our drinks and worked there. There's customers who don't even have drinks that look like they've been sitting there for 20 minutes and there's no one at the front desk. We finally get a lady that comes over greets us and tells us to sit wherever and leaves so we Go sit. we sat down for probably like 20-25 minutes. Nobody came to being a drinks or even say hi we didn't even see a server in that time period. The "Monterey" enchilada was a mozzarella cheese stick mostly melted inside of a soggy corn tortilla . The tomatillo sauce taste like it came straight out of a jar. None of the food was hot. Barely warm. The beef fajita meat is chewy. My flour tortilla was old. The queso is bland, also like it is nacho cheese poured out of a can. Took my out of state friends tonight to this place. I have been here many times in the past years. Waitress was very nice however.... No cherry trees leches like they used to have They brought out a substitute vanilla one and it was frozen and not made there tasted not good. Ordered the chocolate ice cream adult beveredge and they told us that the blender was broke. My wife then ordered another drink and it was not good it tasted like orange juice to her and could barely taste any alcohol. My friends ordered similar and same experience for them. The good: chips and salsa, accommodated a table of 7 The bad: pretty much everything else. Here's the list of where things went wrong: Ordered Coke, got Pepsi. Wasn't told they didn't offer coke. Menu said they did. Menu lied. Food didn't all come out at the same time. Not a huge issue but it was a 5-10 minute wait before the rest of the table was served. Quality was the real problem. Do not, like really, DO NOT order the crawfish enchiladas. We know it's landlocked and a weird place to get crawfish anything buuuuuut this was clearly frozen crawfish so it should've been okay. It wasn't okay. One person couldn't even eat theirs because the smell was rank af. Another was so hungry that they powered through despite the odor and then got violent assplosions upon returning home. Other dishes included a tamale that looked like a greasy turd and thus aptly renamed the "turdmale", there were reheated flat cheese enchiladas, mediocre fajitas (that's being generous), okayish tacos al carbon and a meh chimichanga. An employee's crotch goblin straight smoked his sibling in the face as a form of discipline at a corner table with no adult supervision. Sure hope he's not learning that as the example at home. The other kid did shut up though. Service was absent. Just not even there. Besides our food coming out sporadically, they rarely checked on us and when told we were ready, we waited 30 minutes before finally going to the cashier to ask if we could check out. Cashier was told that crawfish were pretty bad and responded, "I'm just a server, dude". Manager was caught outside and told that, seriously, check yo crawfish before leaving. All Morelia's are good. The Bastrop Morelia may be the weak link in an otherwise very strong chain. Most Morelia's go for an over the top Las Vegas drop dead big magnificent space. Say what you will for the giant statues of bare breasted women - The space always feels enormous and fun. The Bastrop Morelia is a set of many little boxy rooms that all feel cramped. The bar feels cramped. The dining room feels cramped. Even the men's room feels cramped. Morelia meets an office cubicle. You tighten up and don't unwind. Morelia's food is usually some of the best Mexican food in Austin. My chicken fajita taco salad tasted okay while I ate it - But I left with a mysterious bad taste in my mouth. I think the chicken was fine. (If I suspected the chicken, I would be posting a one star review.) I think it was the avocado in my fajita salad. Either way, I was not happy when I drove away. * * * Honestly, though, I think the salad issue was a fluke. The confining ugly room issue is not a fluke. If you live in Bastrop and you want the real Morelia's experience, Drive up to Elgin which has one of the best Morelia's in the chain. If that is too much bother for the benefit - You can still get the almost-Morelia's experience in Bastrop itself. The place has just opened and they may be getting the bugs out of a new kitchen staff. I expect the food at the Bastrop Morelia's will become first rate in the months to come. read more

We stopped here after visiting the barton hills farm for their pumpkin patch and omg, it was a great choice! The service was fast and friendly, and the food was great! I won't rate this a 5/5 only because real Mexican food can only be found in south Texas or in Mexico itself but this place definitely set a standard for Tex mex on a whole new level. The food was steaming fresh and full of flavor. The mangonada margarita was amazing! Not too sweet but just the right amount of mango and Chile flavoring with a great touch of tequila!! The beans were amazing and the steak fajitas were so freaking good! I don't think I've had better Tex Mex. That speaks volumes in my my own opinion but then again everyone's opinions are different. Honestly go and try it for yourself and see. The prices were fair and not over priced like the usual Tex Mex spots in Austin. If you're in Bastrop I highly recommend eating at Morelias! Waited THIRTY-FIVE minutes for our 6 (yes, SIX) nachos to arrive. I didn't ask for anything fancy! They are NACHOS, for gosh sake! We received 6 nachos with combo fajita meat. No big pile of chips and cheese here. Mexican martinis are made with a mix and no one bothered to ask if we wanted salt or not. Since this took so freaking long, we won't be back. Use to eat here all the time before Covid now food service everything is awful. I had to get up and find my waitress to tell her I was ready to go she and another one were sitting in a booth talking. There was no one in the restaurant. Our food came out never got a refill nothing. When I stopped her conversation so we could leave she acted like I inconvenienced her. I followed her to the register she was giving attitude so I just tossed my card at her. She ran it and she threw it back at me.
