Best Tex Mex food from a family run restaurant. We love Las Cocinas and eat there often. Everything is awesome.

Food, staff and atmosphere was exceptional! I highly recommend this place for your authentic Mexican dine in or take-out meals!

ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING -- BEST MEXICAN FOOD ANYWHERE If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way. read more

The service: everyone was so kind and helpful. The ambiance: a fantastic little hole in the wall with the perfect amount of lighting, low key, not too loud and very clean. The food: where to even start.....I hit the jackpot here. The salsa tasted like it was freshly made and served warm, so so good. The refried beans (which I don't typically order) were hands down the best I've ever had. The enchiladas were top notch, full of flavor and not overly salty. Honestly, I have nothing negative to say, it's a must try when in Bastrop!! read more

The margaritas are really good, only one got me messed up super delicious. The food was immaculate tasteful, the only problem that I had and the reason why I am dinging a star is because they did not devain the shrimp. This is a huge pet pie of mine, so I went through each shrimp devainingin it on my own. When I spoke up about the matter, the excuse was that it was busy and that usually they do but they just didn't this time. I felt that to be a lame excuse in all honesty. Yes I would definitely come back. However I would hope that The integrity improves in the future, every plate dished out should always be immaculate, there should be no excuse because it is busy. that excuse worries me that the kitchen could be unsanitary if it is busy, but that is not a valid excuse. This place is very delicious and has potential for greatness with the authentic flavors that it has. Please make sure every dish is perfect and the way it should be. I hope this criticism is taken wholeheartedly and not in a bad way. I look forward to coming back another time . read more

One of the best TexMex restaurants in the greater Austin area. The la crema fajitas are just so amazing. And they have one special added ingredients rarely seen... sundried tomatoes and perfect little mushrooms in a luscious creamy sauce!!! Very different than the usual onion and green bell pepper. OMG... yes there could be tears it is so good. The balance of the menu features all the classics, including mariscos (seafood) dishes. One small caveat, they are closed on Saturdays. Casual friendly atmosphere. Generous portions, very reasonable and a friendly staff. During the Holiday months (Nov through Jan only) they also offer home made tamales to go!!! read more

Stopped by on the way home from Austin because we yelped Mexican food in Bastrop. Very pleasant service, good food and atmosphere was clean and festive.. the only thing I didn't care for is the chips. They were a lot thicker than we like... but hot sauce and green sauce was good! read more

I am a little embarrassed that I forgot about this local place because it is a little farther away. Food, Service and Ambiance were all excellent as I remember it always was. The Shrimp Embrochette were amazing. Definitely added back to my go to list locally. Highly recommend. read more

A restaurant is three things: food, service and ambiance. This restaurant is operating in a different class for all three factors. FOOD We had Beef Fajitas Mexicanas and a Quail entree. I like quail and this is the best quail in Bastrop. My wife is Hispanic and loves fajitas. They were good. Do they taste a lot like Fiesta Fajita seasoning? Yes. But that's not such a bad thing. Charro beans were good. No complaints on the rice. The chips were served warm. The salsa roja was too thin to get much of it on your chip, but it was also warm and they served an avocado salsa in tandem. So... for us: 4 1/2 stars on food. They offer your standard frozen margarita along with some variously flavored (sweeter) versions and a modest beer selection. Margaritas are $9 regular, $10 for a "jumbo," and $24 or so for a pitcher. The food prices were reasonable. Our entrees were ~$15 each. SERVICE Three stars here. That's being generous. The wait staff seemed nice, but we sat for 10-15 minutes after receiving our menus before anyone brought us water or took an appetizer or a drink order. We waited another fifteen minutes after finishing our meal for us to realize that no one was going to bring us a check. And they have desserts on the menu but no one offered us a dessert or anything after our meal. They just took our plates and walked away. AMBIANCE The outside really looks great (amazing flowers, a beautiful fence, nice attention to detail, beautiful porcelain geckos on the walls). But on the inside of the restaurant, the opposite: hideous artwork, urns displayed on torn cardboard, no music, merchandise for sale behind the counter (large handbags or something). Really needs an internal makeover. Will we come back? At some point, yes. The food will win the day. But I really think that, with minimal investment, this restaurant has the ability to be so much more. Some interior investment. Some wait staff training. This could really make a difference. read more

If you like Tex-Mex you will love this place. The Fatima's are very good. And they have a breakfast burrito is tremendous and have quasi add to it. Service is excellent we have eight and the take care of us. read more

Our go to stop on the way to Austin from LA. Delicious food! Got the chicken fajitas- the chicken was perfect! Rice and beans are great.

This place was a great surprise! So worth the drive up sh95 from 71. Service 100%! Was going to order nachos but asked about the stuffed avocado and on the daughter of the chefs recommendation got the stuffed avocado. It was so good that ordered another to take back to Tennessee. My husband ordered the chicken fried chicken and it was excellent! Thank you for a delicious dinner. Hope to come again soon! read more

First time visit for some reason we have driven by for years and always heard it was good. Finally remembered to give it a try. Parking is a little weird. One way entrance wraps around another trailer in the back to the exit. Inside is standard, with some merchandise available. We sat in a good size booth, there were smaller ones also. Wifey got a huge margarita that was just right on the strength. The food was very good and tasty. I had a hard time picking what to get as there were many tempting options. Son got a burrito that he plowed through. He can put away some food but we were surprised he finished it! Definitely a must try and we will be back! read more

Not an authentic Mexican restaurant because they only serve American cheese. I get it if they want to please "Americans" but this has to be a literal insult to the Mexican culture. Customer service on the phone sucked big time - the person who picked up the call (Manager was "too busy") argued with me instead of hearing me out. Never ordering again but if you aren't allergic to American cheese like I am or perhaps a big fan of this fake kind of cheese, you should go here! They'd love to have you. read more

Food was very good. Service was excellent. Nice find on our weekend getaway, we will definitely be back.

Uhm wow!!!! I don't have any pictures unfortunately because at this place my mouth ate first The food is so good and so authentic. I can't wait to be a regular here. We got the Beef Fajita California for two and it was so much food! The margaritas are strong and have great dessert options. read more

We've tried this place a few times. We've consistently found the portions are unusually small and food taste is nothing special. I do not care for the red dyed corn tortillas or the scrimpy filled enchiladas. We've tried to order different things to give the place a fair chance. This is the only Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at, that doesn't serve beans and rice with their enchiladas or numerous other dishes. The enchiladas were super tiny. It was sad how quickly dinner was over due to super small portions. My husband left hungry after his enchilada plate and he's not a big guy or picky eater. A tiny blob of guacamole doesn't create a pleasing plate. This place gets a meh! Sorry but you guys need to stop scrimping. I gave two stars because it's a clean restaurant and the margarita was good. It's the poor value and mediocre experience that's a big no. read more

I've known this family since I was ten years old. I've seen the way they grown and prospered in the states. I've read a few of the reviews and to say this is insult to Mexican food is beyond insane. Besides the fact that they actually came over to the U.S. The food is good and they take their time to make it. Their fajita and enchiladas are some of my personal favorites. And their drinks such as their agua de mango and agua de horchata are delicious. With the overall quality of the food being good. And the pricing decent and relevant to portions sizes. Their service may lack in some departments due to language barrier. But never once has my family or friends felt disrespected or dissatisfied with the staff. They don't normally come up to you for a check, in my experience we've either walked to the cashier to pay or request our waiter to bring us one. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice. With it not being the most physically appealing on the outside. They make with their stories. The owner of the restaurant has always told us stories of Mexico when we ask. And always comes out and told us a few jokes. The times we've gone to the restaurant on birthdays they'll come out with a guitar and sing to us. As I said before I've never been once been disrespected by the staff or felt unwanted. read more

Stopped in here for lunch with some clients after showing some homes in bastrop. It was so nice to be greeted with friendly faces, 2 salsas (one warm) AND a free small queso!! Some places in Austin CHARGE for salsa and chips- which is ridiculous- but these guys didn't even charge for lunch queso?!! Amazingness. I got the chalupas- i don't eat meat- they were good, could've used more beans and less lettuce but it made me feel good, like I was having a salad which my body desperately needed haha. Clients had a combo lunch special- they have like 50 options it's kinda insane- the other has cheese enchiladas with sour cream sauce ( $1.50 up charge) that looked amazing Total it came out to 34$ and some change! I recommend coming here for sure! read more

Omg!! This little restaurant served up some of the best Tex-Mex around! Hubby ordered the Burrito LasCosinas with beef fajita meat. He said it was delicious, covered in queso! Everything was amazing. The salsas were authentic and has the right amount of heat. The queso is everything you could ask for and the guacamole is the freshest I've ever had. For entrees we had fajitas and Chile quilas, once again, some of the best I've had. This is a family run place that is inviting and serves up delicious food and drink. Looking forward to the next visit! read more

Absolutely delicious food. Make the drive, just to try anything on this menu. This family cares about everything they put on the table. Steak fajitas, queso, their salsas, enchiladas are incredible. A friend even ordered quail one time, not my thing, but he said it was amazing. Their ribs, some of the best we have had in Texas. One thing, it would be nice to actually get a bill from them, instead you just kinda go to the front and they tell you what you owe. They have been wrong a few times and charged us for things we didn't order, so I think they should redo that system because it is uncomfortable. Yet, everything else is just fantastic! read more

A real hole in the wall! That should say enough right there. Well, I'll be nice and go into detail. Every time I'm in town for work, I have to come to this place. It's conveniently located right down the street from where my job is. It's easily missed if you don't pay close attention when driving. It looks like a house from the outside, with color full little triangle flags hanging in the parking lot. The staff is very friendly so are the customers, but we do stand out a bit whenever we go in there and they are known to be a friendly town to certain group of people lol. The food is exceptionally good being not that far from Austin. Even better than some of the mexican restaurants I have been to down by the Texas-Mexico border. It's a very small town with not that many restaurant, so if you're in Bastrop, you have to give this place a try. it's a guarantee hit! read more

Wow! The fajitas were out of this world! The ribs, shrimp, and beef were cooked to perfection with the perfect char. The flavors were to die for. We're used to eating Lupe Tortillas fajitas, but these are even better. The ribs and beef were so tender! The seasonings enhance the flavors of the meats. The place is clean, and yes, clean restrooms. It is a small restaurant and most of the patrons are regulars. Maria was our server. She has been working there for 13 years and she is so sweet. She is very proud of the foods that this restaurant serve, so that really says a lot about this establishment. Anyway, we can't wait to go back to Bastrop just to eat here again. read more

Food was delicious. Had a problem with our order (had items in the taco we didn't want) they quickly took it back and made it right. Enchiladas had soft tortillas - I hate eating enchiladas with hard or firm tortillas. These were in point! Tacos al carbon were really great too! Margarita on the Rocks - superb!! I'll dot it again.
