Worst margaritas in Bastrop County. We love the interior of the place. And the food is okay. The service is acceptable. But if you want to have a drink with dinner, stick with beer. I couldn't imagine a worse margarita. The place has potential. But this is the signature Mexican cocktail, and if you can't make one any better than this, you're absolutely not trying and should just take them off the menu. I mean, you went through the trouble of getting a liquor license. But why, when the only liquor you offer is an undrinkable margarita?

We had a great brunch here. Cute place with outstanding service. Big portions that can be shared. Good ingredients and cooked fresh.

I usually love this place- the Mexico Lindo Breakfast is AMAZING. BUT today they charged me $5.99 for a side of sliced avocado. Major jump scare. I understand we're going through some Biden-flation, but to charge 6 times the amount the avocado costs... for a few slices... SHEESH. Give me a damn break miss Lindo!!!!!!

Burrito with barbacoa, avocado, lettuce and rice/beans. I'm coming back!

We live in Bastrop but love El Mexicano Grill. The food is authentic Mexican and tasty. I had the burrito with Barbacoa and loved it.

Tried the chalupas today, vegetarian style. The atmosphere is relaxed and has unique painted chairs. Service is friendly and fast.

Low profile unassuming exterior but SUCH A GREAT PLACE! Excellent food and seriously one of the cleanest restaurants I've ever been in!

And at least they don't oversalt everything with Fiesta seasoning like some places do. They don't have a liquor license but they serve beer, wine and frozen margaritas, which aren't bad but they're officially "wineritas" because they don't have tequila in them. But my wife likes them. The interior space is pretty nice, especially the Eastern room. But some of the booths are old and really need new cushions in them. I'm hoping they invest in this place when the new, nearby community opens up and they gain new patrons. If it improves, we'll come here more often. It has potential. That said, we were disappointed on this visit. The waiter literally pulled something out of my drink with his fingers before serving it to me, hoping I wouldn't notice. Who does that? If something's fallen into it, just take it back to the kitchen and get another one. Don't dip your fingers into guests' drinks. Please. The guacamole was interesting. Just unseasoned, mashed up avocado. No onion. No serrano peppers. Little to no salt or lime. Diced tomatoes were served on the side (as not to water down the guac), and it was served over shredded iceberg lettuce. I did taste fresh. And there was salt on the table if you wanted it. I guess I just expected it to be more prepared. It would have been a nice respite from the heat if our meal was spicy. But we've never had anything there that was spicy.

The prices…read morewere fair and the portions were generous (large, meaty, filling tacos for $2.50 to $3 each). We tried a variety of tacos, including breakfast tacos and we experienced tlacoyos for the first time (similar to gorditas). Outdoor seating only, in a rustic, rural environment, including a rooster roaming around between the umbrellaed picnic tables. The food is more typical of a ranch house family meal than of restaurant-style Tex-Mex. For example, they don't whisk their eggs before they scramble them. They just crack them directly into the skillet and kind of mix it together slightly with the spatula as they cook. They had both red and green salsa available, but both were very mild, and thin enough for a squeeze bottle. We didn't notice any chips, salsa bowls, guacamole, jalapeños or lime wedges. And none of the flavors were amped up. It just all came across as the typical home cooking they'd been raised on. But that has its own charm. And the tortillas (flour or white corn) all seemed homemade They have sodas, horchata and aguas frescas (no beer), or coffee (instant, I believe). But don't plan to stay too long or drink too much coffee, as there is no public restroom here.

And they keep the place exceptionally clean. Our server made us feel very welcome even though we showed up just before closing time (they close at 2 pm Tue - Sun and are closed all day Monday). Half the menu was breakfast and the other half was lunch. Beverages were colas, coffee, tea, lemonade and horchata. Lunch here is your typical Mexican lunch menu: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, etc. They also had two specials today: Enchiladas Verde and Quesabirria Tacos. We tried and enjoyed both. The enchiladas had a lot of chicken in them. And while the birria lacked its typical au jus to dip the tacos in, they were still quite authentic and flavorful. The complimentary chips and salsa comes with a bean dip, and with two additional chile options, a spicy red chile and a chile verde. It was nice having all those options. For a healthier option, they also offer a large bowl of tortilla soup with spanish rice on the side. I'm not sure why they choose to open a Mexican restaurant right next to a Mexican restaurant, but the two restaurants are very different and keep different hours. We will come back to try their breakfast, as that appears to be their specialty.

I've traveled all over Texas and across the U.S., and I can say without hesitation that Las Cocinas Mexican Grill is hands-down the BEST Mexican restaurant I have ever been to -- and that includes all of Austin. My family and I come here several times a week, even though we don't live close by. That alone should tell you how incredible this place is. Must-try favorites (do NOT skip these): The Margaritas - Very strong and absolutely perfect. Order them half & half (half on the rocks, half frozen). Trust me -- you'll thank me later. Nachos Al Carbon (Appetizer) - The beef fajita meat is out of this world. Tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. Beef Fajitas Cremosas (Entrée) - Get them with EXTRA sun-dried tomatoes. Oh. My. God. I have never had anything like this in my life, and it's something I crave several times a week. Stuffed Jalapeños - So good I sometimes order them as my entire meal. And the onion rings they're served on? Easily the best onion rings I've ever had anywhere. Beyond the food, the staff is absolutely amazing. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel like family -- warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy you're there. That kind of service is rare, and it's one of the many reasons this place is so special to us. And yes -- I always forget to take pictures of my food because I eat it before I remember to take photos for a review . That should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is. We are incredibly thankful for Las Cocinas. It's not just our favorite Mexican restaurant -- it's our favorite restaurant, period, and the best in the entire area by a mile. Perfect in every way.
