Stopped here on a whim and an empty stomach on the way out of town. These are the little gems I love - no research, no yelp, just a random roadside stop that turns out great! There was a younger guy that helped take our order since my Spanish is very underwhelming, which goes to show you how legit this place is. Carnitas came out super flavorful and very tender, and the taquitos were a nice touch. At first glance, the portion sizes seemed small but turned out very filling. If you're looking for no frills bare bones but delicious carnitas and great service, this is worth the stop. Especially if you need to fuel up on a road trip out of Austin.

Cucumber & Lime juice

I've been to this location twice now and the food has been really good both times. The employees are welcoming as well. Will be coming back again!

Pazole. A+

Exceptional salsas offered to accommodate the fare. Plenty of seating and overly crowded with tables. Popular with local crews of whom all had agua frescas from what I could see. The Doraditas were a little dry from being fried but the salsas/cream helped with that. Friendly staff. I didn't see flour tortillas offered or I simply overlooked them. Pazole was fantastic and reminded me of my dad's enchiladas in a soup form. Meal for 3 adults w/ drinks total under $50. Good stuff.

I grabbed some red and green salsas and I'll admit, the green was too spicy for me but that was pretty good and still pretty spicy.

It's a large space, great for groups, and it's nice there is a kids menu option. We started with water all around, plus Mexican cokes and a paloma. We shared seafood tostada, chips n guacamole, wings, and chicken flautas. Everything came out hot, fresh, and nicely seasoned. We have two gluten free folks in the group and there were plenty of corn based options. The tostadas come with three and were nice and fresh, I was a little hesitant when it said mayo, but there was just a bit to get the shrimp and imitation crab to stick together. Turned out the kids loved the wings - we tried the citrus pepper and Austin amber bbq flavors. The chicken inside the flautas was tender and we enjoyed the cabbage, onion, carrot slaw to bring a fresh crunch. Definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Route 71 between Bergstrom Airport and Bastrop is kind of a food desert…read more But they are just now starting to get food trucks. However, there is one food truck that has been in Cedar Creek forever. Mi Barrio at 71 and Pope Bend. This is an absolutely superlative food truck. If you needed one and only one place to eat along Route 71, This is the one you would want. * * * Tex-Mex is the order of the day here. The menu is very traditional. They are unapologetic about offering "alternative parts of the animal" such as tripas. The food is firey hot but hot with magnificent flavor. I never understood why people told me that Tex-Mex food is spicy. It isn't spicy in most places. It IS spicy at Mi Barrio. And this is fire you could learn to love. * * * Four notes of interest. a) I had the chicken fajitas. At bad Mexican food trucks, they use cheap chicken, Chicken that leaves a bad taste in your mouth. They use high integrity high quality ingredients at Mi Barrio. You could serve this chicken to your mother. b) Even though Mi Barrio is right next to Cedar Creek High School, I have never once seen a Cedar Creek High School student there. You go to the fast food restaurants near Westwood High in Austin, and they are packed with Westwood High students. I suspect the principal at Cedar Creek is stricter than the principal at Westwood High about letting students off school grounds. c) Most of the customers do not eat at the food truck. All of the customers I saw were working class Mexican. A few ordered for themselves and went off to eat someplace. A few others came in to get large orders that I presume were taken back to some work crew. The location is not wonderful. They are in the parking lot of a fairly cruddy Exxon convenience store. Highway 71 scenery is not magnificent. d) This place opens early and closes early. They will be there for breakfast. They will be there for lunch even if you wander in around 1-ish. I am a late afternoon kind of a guy which generally means I found them closed. * * * It would be snarky for me to say this is the best eating on Route 71, given the nearly total lack of competition. But it is more meaningful to say this place can stand up with The best of the Mexican/Central American food trucks on North Lamar in Austin AND The best of the Mexican/Central American food trucks on Route 812 in Del Valle. These are concentrations of really excellent Mexican food. You might not want to drive 35 miles to eat here. The location is ugly. This ain't no picture postcard. But if you DO stop and eat here, ignoring the view, You will eat very well indeed.

My husband and I decided to go out for breakfast on a Saturday AM at around 10. We were the only ones there and when we walked up the employee told us they were out of juices which was a little disappointing since a part of their marketing/menu focused on juices. We ordered the El Classico taco and The Outlaw with 2 lattes. (With 20% tip it came to $34) He told us it would be about 10/15 minutes - no problem. Tacos were ready and 1 latte, he said the other latte would be a little longer bc the machine was having issues. To say that we were underwhelmed with how "full" the tacos were for the price would be an understatement (see photos). About 5 minutes later, he told me that the machine was broken and they need to get fixed. I asked for my money back- he said he had to wait for the manager to come to do that and it would be another 10 minutes. We left without a refund because at that point, I wasn't going to wait around longer for a $6 refund. The tacos did have wonderful flavor but the portions for the price is disappointing. I have no problem spending money for good quality food but $10 and $7 for practically a street taco is a little steep IMO. We may return to try lunch/dinner but not sure if it's worth the drive for the price.

Ask when you order the buffet. The restaurant itself is on the rustic, smaller side: seats 50 max (probably less per fire code). There is additional parking next door by Clint's Liquors (the parking lots are connected by a small wooden foot bridge). Feels like a local diner, so if you are looking for something upscale or trendy look elsewhere. I don't want the place to be crowded anyway. Service is friendly. Good food at a good price!
