My family drove to Burton to checkout the Burton Short Stop for lunch on Saturday and we were not disappointed. The staff was very courteous and professional and helped us find seating for our family of 5. The food was delivered promptly, hot off the grill! My wife had a salad, I had grilled chicken sandwich and the kids had cheeseburgers and cheese pizza. Everything was delicious and portions generous. We've been a few times with workmates for lunch. We love it! The food is consistent, the staff is nice, the place is clean, and the food comes out quickly enough. Prices are reasonable, and you can order ahead for pickup if you're in a rush. A couple of tips: - The sweet tea is not too sweet, which is how I prefer it. But if you've got a sweet tooth you may need to add sweetener. - Add the seasoning to whatever fried potato you order. So good! - Careful of what you flush in the restroom. Food is always delicious, my go to is the patty melt basket with seasoned fries. It's best to call ahead it gets packed fast. Also the ladies are always super sweet and remembers my name when I walk in. read more

My family and I were really excited to try this place for dinner, tonight, for the 1st time...however, we weren't too impressed! My 7 year old ordered the kid's grilled cheese and it was, by far, the worst looking grilled cheese I've seen in my 44 years! It was burned on the outside AND INSIDE the sandwich, flat as a pancake and I don't know if they even put any cheese inside of it. Crazy, that we paid $5 for that! My husband had the chicken fried steak sandwich...he said it wasn't really seasoned or anything, super bland. I had a cheeseburger and it was just OK. Finally got the chance to try the food. Been in a couple of time to pick up a drink and the food just looked amazing. Well guess what. It was!!! I was dying to try the cheeseburger and it didn't disappoint. Hand made patty grilled bun, all the fixin's. It was what a burger is supposed to be. Added the sweet potato fries and they were crispy and tasty. Mom had the fried chicken salad and it was great too. Very fresh and chicken was crispy and flavorful. Can't wait to go back. Lots of great items. The staff is really friendly. The food came out quickly even though it was their busy lunch time. The food here is very good. I had a fried chicken sandwich, the chicken was tender and it had clean, crisp iceberg lettuce (makes a big difference) and a fresh bun. We also ordered a cheeseburger, fried okra and tater tots. All of it prepared perfectly and generous portions. Less than perfect rating because the lady who took our order didn't bring out our food or let us know when our order was ready so it ended up sitting in the kitchen for over 40 minutes while we were starving but we still had a good time. Super cute little store & cafe. Has everything you need if you're driving through on a road trip. It also has old timey gas pumps too. Much better than stopping at a gas station directly off the highway. This little convenience store & cafe was about 30-45 seconds off the highway. read more

Went in for breakfast burritos. The lady at the front took my card and acted like the card reader didn't work so she went to get help from.... the cooks in the back kitchen... with the owner standing right there.... with my card in her hand for at least 10 minutes..... Every now and then they would look around the corner at me. She comes back and proceeds to "charge" my card for the burritos and I leave (she didn't charge the card). Cut to a few days later, I start getting fraudulent activity on my card from states I've never been to. My card does not have tap to pay and she was the only person to physically handle my card my whole time in Texas. At least two employees conspired to steal my card info. That was my disability check for the month. Talked to the owner and he doesn't care. I'm filing a police report today. . AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

The Crispy Chicken Sandwich is huge (one entire chicken breast) and superb with fresh tomatoes, lettuce and mayo on a bun. The Corona Extras from the cooler behind the counter are as cold as they can possibly get without forming ice crystals. Our country place is about 6 miles away and we either eat there or call in our orders (20 minutes before we get there) and take them with us, at least twice on every weekend. When we were there with the grandkids a few weeks ago, Bryan asked for ketchup and Rick Perry said, "Here you go" and put it on our table on his way out. read more
