Brenham grille is located in the St Ant Hotel Building in the adorable old town of Brenham, Texas. The wait staff is really nice and attentive. The decor is cute and comfortable. However, we felt like our food was just OK. We got the calamari and there wasn't anything unique about it, but it was good. My Caesar salad was a little odd. It did not taste like Cesar at all. The lasagna was just ok. We were quite disappointed in the chicken fried steak. It did not seem like it was seasoned at all, the batter was very bland and unfortunately, adding salt and pepper didn't do much because it would've been better if the batter itself was seasoned. I would return to this location, but maybe not have my hopes up so much to have a good meal. The prices are fair for what you get. read more

I tried to call the restaurant several times for over 2 weeks. Finally, got a hold of someone to make a reservation. Brought in a group of seniors for lunch. We had a few people cancel before coming in. Once again, nobody answered the phone before we arrived. The server wasn't inviting when we arrived. He said, you told us a table for 15. We ended being a party of 9. We had mediocre food and rude service. They weren't friendly, our server took our order and never came back to check on us. We could hear how he spoke to other customers too. We did actually get our water refilled from one of the other staff. The server didn't offer us any dessert. We felt rushed to leave. One guest asked for dessert and he said they one had one type of dessert. The staff at the hotel wasn't friendly either. We stopped by to look around and not one person spoke to us. We left and went to Must Be Heaven for dessert. We should've gone there for lunch but we wanted to support another local business. read more

Honestly, the food taste like shit fries were not seasoned. The rice wasn't seasoned the ground beef smell, weird and tasted a little funny. My french fries were crispy, which is good, but the flavor was not. The cheese was also yellow cheese. It wasn't even good type of cheese. Don't even give me started on the tuna sandwich that I had it tasted plain no seasoning. It was very mushy. I am very disappointed and the amount of shit they gave me gave me. Thank you ! We were on a road trip and just driving through the town we saw this little gem and decided to give it a try. I sat down and immediately asked if the coffee was fresh because I drink it black and if not I would wait for a fresh cup. The very nice young woman wasn't sure about the coffee and when she brought it to the table it was very good but I never was asked if I wanted a refill throughout my meal. When I asked our waiter he said there was no more? Anyway, my travel mate had cheese enchiladas and I asked for a chalupa without the meat and add avocado instead. We both enjoyed our food and thought we'd made a great choice for dining in this cute small town. If you're ever here, I recommend the Mexican food, no hesitation. read more

A large group of us went to this restaurant after attending church hoping for a pleasant filling meal, unfortunately all we got was a less than pleasant meal and a very expensive tab. At my table, there were six of us, and they would only provide us with two small dishes of salsa for our chips. Not a good way to start an after church meal. My burger looked nothing like the cheeseburgers posted on this site. I wish I had my phone on me so I could've taken pictures of my less than pleasing hamburger and so-called "steak fries" !My steak fries were only as big as my pinky finger. ; I had to ask for extra ketchup twice.... they are so stingy on their condiments; in the end, we all agreed we should've gone to Nathan's for barbecue. read more

I really enjoy this place. My go to order is their Meatloaf which is well seasoned and moist. The mashed potatoes are flavorful and full of buttery goodness and their side salad is fresh and crisp. The ambiance is pretty and historic and would be a nice place to take out of town guests. Be aware this place is relatively small with probably only 15-18 tables so if I go at peak times you can expect a wait. Their Italian food is tasty as well and after reading other reviews I am anxious to try their Mexican food next. This is definitely one of my top go to restaurants in Brenham. read more

This spot has the potential to be something great. The atmosphere is gorgeous with stained glass and beautiful light fixtures. However, the food is just okay. I had the Tour of Italy and it lacked much flavor. The bread was really good, though. The main thing that was less than ideal was the staff. While friendly, I felt like we were being rushed out. We dined at 7:30 (closing time is 9) and the gentleman working shut off the open sign while we were seated and was a bit pushy. This made us feel like we were an obstacle between him and the end of his shift, and took away from the enjoyment of dining there. A fantastic place for breakfast. My wife and I stayed overnight at the attached Ant Street Inn and were given complementary breakfast vouchers. We expected standard continental breakfast fair, but instead were able to order off the menu. We both had the migas and loved them. The eggs were spot on without being under or over cooked, the tortillas were still crispy, and the salsa was tasty. I also had coffee and was very pleased. There are few things better than a really solid cup of diner coffee, and this place has it. I'm taking the thermos the next time I go. The staff was also super friendly and attentive. Even after seeing that we were paying with vouchers, which I'd imagine gets them stiffed on the occasional tip. I would have given n'ther star if that was possible. It was perfect weather, perfect day, and we jus were luck to stumble upon the perfect restaurant. The big chandeliers remind of a classy old time. Ambience is good enough for you to choose as a location to propose ( ..... if only they have cakes to hide the ring in ) The food was simply mouthwatering yumm. They had fried okra , never had I tasted this, and glad we did. They gave us plenty options to make food vegetarian which was really nice. And their salads were jus so difficult to choose from. I finally picked the spinach range salad, again something new and delicious. I had to pack the salad and eat later at home because they brought out so much vegetarian options which were not just interesting but new. In the dessert department, they lacked variety, maybe because it was a off day ( v went on a Monday) ......well, it did not matter to me because I had no more place for dessert. Finally decided to visit this restaurant and here are my impressions. As usual we begin with the service. Pretty good with my tea staying full. FYI, diggin' the chandelier in this small little place attached to a locals hotel all of which looks late 1800s to early 1900s. What did I order? I had decided on a mushroom burger but right before my waiter came the table next to me received their burgers which did not look lovely me anything special so I changed direction quickly and decided on the steak fingers with mashed potatoes and corn. I also added a cup of tortilla soup to check it out though I had low expectations. The tortilla soup arrives, my first taste was surprise. It is very tasty indeed. Though not at the he level of the tortilla soup from Jims restaurant in San Antonio which sets a very high bar, this soup came the closest of any I have had anywhere. I can easily see coming down here for just a sandwich and soup. On to the main course. The steak fingers where made with the lowest quality grisly meat. Now I do not expect prime rib on my steak fingers but maybe a step above would be nice. The corn was a bit undercooked though I don't really mind that but a bit of the water should be drained before putting them on the plate. I haven't made a decision on the mashed potatoes yet which had a slight flavor that I couldn't pin down or decide if I liked. Overall the food was ok with the exception of the tortilla soup which was the sole reason for the 4 star rating. I am not sure how many Houstonians realize how charming Downtown Brenham can be. It has many decorative and interesting bars, restaurants and shops and Brenham Grill is definitely one of them. Set adjacent to the historical Ant Hotel this restaurant is a good choice for a stop eating any of the three daily meals. Breakfast however is only offered on the weekends and it is closed on Wednesday's. My visit earlier this week was for dinner while driving back from Austin. You enter into the restaurant by walking through the lobby of the Ant Hotel so remember that the restaurant doesn't have its own entrance/exit. The restaurant consists of one dining room with large picture windows facing the street. It is decorated with nice paintings and a beautiful colored chandelier overhead. There is a long wooden bar that looks like it has a lot of history behind it however I don't temember seeing any barstools so I don't think it is used as a place to sit and have drinks. The menu is varied with Italian, Mexican, different red meat and chicken platters, sandwiches, burgers, etc. along with breakfast items for the weekends. After talking to the manager of recommendations I chose the large lasagna for $12.95 that came with a side salad and a bread basket. The salad arrived within 5 minutes and was good (3.5) along with the bread. The lasagna arrived about 15 minutes after ordering and I took advantage of the offered Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. I liked it. The marinara sauce had a slight acidic tomatoey flavor unlike some bland sauces do. The cheese was gooey just like it should be and the serving was ample for most appetites. I gave the lasagna a 4. Also my table service was very good (4). I feel giving an overall score of 4 is justified. I like this restaurant. My meal was enjoyable and the atmosphere and decor really added to a nice visit. I would be happy to return. read more

Had a wonderful lunch at Brenham Grill! The piping hot bread was delightful on a cold, November afternoon. The chips were perfectly cooked, soft but sturdy enough to grip my hefty portion of flavourful salsa.I was visiting from out of state and needed my Tex Mex fix, so I went with the enchiladas. The Brenham Grill is located inside the Ant Street Inn. Go into the hotel and bear right from the lobby. Dad and I got the 12 oz steak. Yummy. but had to ask for steak sauce for dad, and then had to go track it down after about eight minutes. Mashed potatoes and cream gravy yummy. Salad, decent but had to ask for my dad's missing salad. Mom's pasta she said was quite good. Tortilla soup was good. Basically, this is a family owned place with great food but on a busy Saturday night one of the owners was trying to wait on all the tables himself. They need to hire a server for Saturday night so they're not as pressured and can remember all the details. I was content and satisified. We would eat there again. I saw a few people get the fajitas and they looked great. Bonus for the grand huge stained glass light fixture that illuminates the center of the room. We were going though Brenham and it was lunch time so we picked a place on our Nuvi navigator. We decided on the Capital Grill. But, it took us to the Brenham Grill instead. Oh well, we're here now and I'm hungry. Later the owner explained he bought it and changed the name several years ago. He bemoaned the fact that all kinds of things still list it as the Capital Grill. You enter through the Ant Street Inn, a lovely small boutique hotel (see picture showing stairs). I liked the ambiance and wish I'd liked the meal as much. We ordered the meatloaf. Meatloaf can be made several ways and I'm really picky about the way I like it. Theirs wasn't that way. For what it's worth, the potato salad and fries were good. There were a collection of what appeared to be a group of Brenham old timers there, so I'm reluctant to rate this place average based on only one dish that I figure others would like. If you average the nice atmosphere and pleasant service with an okay but not-my-cup-of-meatloaf. I guess it comes to about four stars. read more

We stopped by Brenham on a weekend trip to a couple of wineries in the area and decided to stop by Brenham's Grill for lunch.. Decor was wonderful, it made you feel like you were back in the old days, especially when you looked out the window and saw an old school firetruck in the middle of street (they were having a fundraiser for diabetes)... Everything was great about the place besides the food (but I'm VERY picky)... We started off with an order of calamari (tasted either overcooked, frozen or probably both) and it came out hard and crunchy with no calamari taste whatsoever (all I tasted was batter).. I ordered the swiss and mushroom burger with fries which was pretty good but a little bland for my taste...
