I was so excited to finally experience Royers this past weekend but it was a huge disappointment. First they were to open at 5:00, and didn't open the doors until 5:08 and a cold front had hit, so we were all standing in line in the cold. When we walked in we stated we just wanted some pies to go; she said "well you really should have gone to our other store to get those". She agreed to help us, but was so rude, and acted like we were a burden to her. She got our pies and basically threw them in a bag and threw the bag on the counter. The pie pieces were in shambles and part of the pies leaking from the containers. I was so disheartened by the way we were treated that I won't give Royers a second chance. It allowed me to feel good about ordering a salad, while delighting me with what must have been eight ounces of beef tenderloin (perfectly cooked), a couple of slices of bacon and a healthy dose of blue cheese. My mom and I stopped in to get some desserts to go. The place was cute. They had plenty of pies to choose from. We were excited to pick some and take them home to my stepdad and share them all. We got the lemon blueberry which was everyone's favorite. The apple pie, I feel like the apples needed to be cooked a tad longer and we got the bread pudding. We were so disappointed we didn't check the bag beforehand because the menu said it came with a bourbon sauce and there was no sauce included so the bread pudding was really dry. I think it could've been really good with the sauce. The service was ok, a small wait to order and like I said missing our sauce. I'm sure we would go back. Cool "iconic" cafe. An obvious favorite for people from Texas as well as other states. We met a couple from Michigan waiting for our table to open. This week starts the Round Top festival for antique shoppers from all over the world. The ambiance is a crowded space of wall to wall tables, but comfortable at the same time. Service was efficient and friendly. The menu is interesting and somewhat limiting in choices for lunch although you can order off of the dinner menu. They are known for their shrimp and grits which is what my wife ordered and it was very good. The only drawback was that the shrimp is served with the tails on which is messy for this dish. I had the fish sandwich which has coke slaw a spicy Cajun sauce and guacamole. I had not heard of this fish before, it is very mild in flavor even with the light batter. For me the fish was too mild for all of the other flavors going on. I think cod would hold up better on this sandwich. The bun is jalapeño buttered and tasty. Pricing is a little on the high side, but it was an experience. read more

Her recommendation to try the Nashville shrimp tacos was perfect--they were flavorful with just the right amount of spice. For dessert, Vivian suggested her two favorite pies: the sweet & salty pie and the lemon blueberry pie. Both were incredible--we couldn't get enough! Another great meal at Royers. Made it to lunch on Thursday for the pork tender, fried green tomatoes, and cherry pie, not too sweet, with bluebell and my husband had the apple. I have reviewed in the past. Fun food, Angus pasta, pork tender, even the seafood here is thoughtful twist and fun atmosphere. Whatever you do Slow Down in these places, there can be aLOT of people come through during events. This is not fast food and there is limited seating. Unfortunately I cannot recommend Royers Cafe. There were definitely good points--friendly service, outstanding desserts (mainly what they are known for as their original establishment is their pie shop that is just a few hundred yards away), delicious sides, and a dive bar kind of feel (if you like that). But the main dishes we had just weren't good and were very expensive. I had the Karen's chicken and when I say it was dry and poorly prepared, it is an understatement. It was so dry and tough that I had trouble cutting it even with a steak knife. I had two bites and couldn't eat any more. I don't even know how you can prepare a chicken breast that badly. And it was $22. My friend had a hamburger and I think it was okay but nothing special. I guess Round Top has really leaned into it's status as a high end stop for rich people (we walked through some local stores and everything was high end and very pricey) and so the restaurant prices match. But with high prices come high expectations and Royers did not meet them unfortunately. read more

The restaurant is "downtown" street parking and might be a challenge. Nice menu variety though the red lunch menu very hard to read. I ordered buds salad with tenderloin and it should have been called tenderloin with salad it was a bowl of meat. Hubs have a fish sandwich with fries and it was huge he could only eat the fish out of one half. And of course we went for pie and didn't have room so I got a sugar free pecan and took it to go. Found this place one our way to Lake Conroe. We just thought it was going to be a little average cafe. Not were we wrong!!! The tomato basil soup and the double dip appetizer were both OUTSTANDING!!!! We got the Nashville sandwich and Tenderloin steak sandwiches!! Both were some of the best sandwiches we have ever eaten!!! Then it was dessert time, and even though we were full, we had to have pie and thankfully we did!!! Was in Round Top for the day and heard that you can't be in Round Top without a stop at Royers Round Top Cafe. Well, I can certainly see why. It was one of the most happening places in town when we were there for lunch. The space is intimate but used well - there are certainly a number of tables, but they fill up quickly and don't be surprised if you're asked to share with another party (we did!). Our server was sweet - gave us time to absorb the menus (you can order from the lunch or dinner menu at lunch time), but didn't completely abandon us. I went for the pimento grilled cheese sandwich with chips (they are just a bag of chips, which made it easy for me to focus on the sandwich and take those for a snack in the car later on). The sandwich is on a delicious homemade bun with homemade pimento cheese and bacon. It isn't the cleanest to eat, but the flavors worked well and I was satisfied with my choice. read more
