A solid local bakery Coming through town, happened upon a small bakery. Decided to stop and get some cookies and a kolache as well. The bakery had a decent line, but the staff was quick to grab items and orders. We got a selection of cookies, then made our way out of town. The Mexican wedding cookies were a highlight. Good amount of almond and sugar to make a good cookie. The bread was soft and chewy. And the kolache was cheesy and meaty. The donut holes were a little tough, more reminiscent of a cold pretzel bite. Not bad, just different. This place is a good local bakery, one of the few places in town to get a good bite for cheap, but with a solid quality and reputation. It's not good enough to be trek worthy, but it's good enough to be the staple bakery of the town and worth a stop if you happen to be in this area.

Enjoyed a baked treat and coffee prior to a castle tour with friends... yummy treats here and my fave was the cinnamon roll. I would definitely get that again! There are 2 lines: one for hot food, and another for castle tour tickets and baked goods. The castle tour was self guided after hearing a presentation (which was hard to hear; I'd suggest a microphone to reach those at back of tour group) we took our time to explore the rooms and towers as it was fairly crowded. Simple lunch (sandwich, chips and baked goodie) included in tour ticket.

Newman's Bakery and Newman's Castle are both built by the late Mike Newman. He began baking as he was building the castle amongst other jobs. Menus are on the wall and on top of the glass counter of all of the variety of baked selections. Food is available as well. Enjoyed the soup of the day--a barley, beef, and vegetable soup and cookies. A friendly staff was busy filling all reasonably priced orders. There's a small single toilet restroom. The bakery sits on the main road next to the railroad track so you can't miss it.

I wanted to check out this Bakery because it's iconic. When we walked inside everything was clean and tidy and the counter was fully stocked with baked goods, maybe a bit overstocked? Either way, I asked about anything gluten free but they had nothing. Disappointing but it is what it is. Parking is along the side of the building.

Came here for the first time with the kids. Nothing special about this bakery, but that doesn't mean it's bad or anything. They sell a bunch of donuts, pastries, and cookies. The line can get long and it can be an inconvenience for those being helped next because they don't have a large menu sign of what they're selling. For example, because I've never been here before, my kids and I wanted to ordered some breakfast, but the only visible menu were on their counter far from me so when the staff came up to me to get my order, I had no clue so she left. The menu only had breakfast items and not any of the bakery stuff so by the time I saw what they had, I felt the pressure on hurrying up and select random things. It just wasn't organized well. I think they need a large sign that goes to the front doors where the line can reach so by the time the back gets to the front, they'll know. On top of that, the information about the Newmans Castle wasn't visible until you got to the front, but even that, you still have to inquire about the admissions otherwise, the staff won't say anything. We ordered 3 admissions ticket for $20 which includes a free ham or turkey sandwich in a paper bag with a bag of Ruffles chips that you receive when you arrive to the Newmans Castle. They have to do a better job of making that information visible in the shop. If we had known, we would've bought just bakery goods instead of breakfast. Anyways, we ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich, BLT Sandwich, and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Each came with Ruffles chips and a drink. We also ordered the soup of the day (Beef Potato Barley), but when it didn't arrive to our table, I had to ask one of the staff members who then informed me that I had to get it myself. It was located by the front doors and it was all you can eat soup. We retrieved our free sacks at the castle. Overall, sandwiches were delicious, but nothing spectacular about them. For the baked goods, we also ordered an Apple Fritter, Cinnamon cake donut, chocolate cake donut, jelly donut, and blueberry yeast donut. Nothing special about these donuts that you can't get from HEB or Krogers. Overall, decent priced for mediocre food. We drove a little over an hour to check this place out and it wasn't worth it. Now that I've crossed this off my bucket list for things to do in Texas, we probably won't be coming back unless we're in the area again. The female staff that helped me was super friendly and fast. She did her best to help me because she didn't speak English well so she used her phone to translate to me. Parking lot is a One-Way and it's small so once you pass it, you have to go around. They have lots of tables to dine on and restrooms that aren't the cleanest.

This place has been there forever serving up home made baked goods and breakfast foods. So much so there is a wall rack holding the "regulars" coffee mugs. Everything is made from scratch. I don't normally eat the sweets so I can only comment on the breakfast omelet. It's a 3 egg with sliced potato chunks (even though they call hash browns) cooked well. I have tried it on two occasions so far and they are tasty and not overcooked. The only negative I can add is the building could use an update and clean up. The ceiling has air vents that are moldy looking.

Supposed to be a tuna BLT. No bacon and barely any tuna!

Drove 30 min to Belleville to get lunch and see the castle. Ordered a tuna BLT on sourdough and received it with no bacon. My sandwich might have had 1 scoop of tuna if that. Very disappointed. My other mistake was purchasing 3 tickets for the castle. 1 adult and two children under the age of ten was 60.00. We spent 20 min at the castle if that. Castle was cool, but not 60.00 cool.

This was not something that had been communicated to me prior to the event. During the event, we experienced issues with food availability and overall service that did not meet my expectations. After I raised these concerns, I was also told that additional food had been prepared beyond the agreed guest count. However, this was not something that was communicated to me prior to or during the event. I also brought up concerns regarding the drinks. I was told the situation would be "investigated," but I was not provided with any follow-up, clarification, or documentation addressing those concerns. While photos of the food and setup were shared, I did not receive any photos of the drinks related to the concerns I raised. I followed up via text on Monday evening requesting a fair resolution, but as of Wednesday I have not received a response. Overall, the communication after the event has left me with unanswered questions, and the experience did not align with what I believed I was paying for. I am still open to a resolution, and I recommend that anyone booking ensure all details--including quantities, beverages, and service expectations--are clearly outlined and confirmed in writing ahead of time.

However, would suggest flavoring the icing to really bring out that lemon flavor and maybe even placing a few fresh blueberries on top. I do however really like that its fresh large blueberries. they are visible and plenty. Going to assume the dryness is just because they were premade and being a festival they had to be cut prior (assuming all prep would have to occur the few days before).
