One of one. If you've never been, make a reservation and go. I've always wanted to throw a party there.

I came here after the Washington on The Brazos tour. I thought it was a convenient store at frist and I was just going to get a soda. Turns out it is a restaurant and they serve lunches as well and since all I had for Breakfast is an Ice Cream sandwich, I decided to order a BBQ Rib sandwich. The owner is an awesome guy, although I do feel sorry for him growing up in Detroit as a Lions Fan, =), but we had a great conversation on the current state of Football. The food is great, for about $10 (I left over about $1.5 for tip) I got the rib sandwich which delicious but messy and a shiner bock, it was an awesome lunch hanging out with a good guy. If you are visiting Washington On the Brazos, make sure you stop buy, order some lunch before you head out. read more

Food is always excellent! There is a fixed menu, so if you are picky, check the website. The small town atmosphere is very special.... ALWAYS fun and pleasant and the service is outstanding. read more

My husband and I went in expecting to buy a couple of groceries. Instead of a grocery store, however, we found several tables and chairs, and a bar. We were greeted first by the owner, then the amazing aroma of barbecue immediately afterward. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The decor was rustic, but cute. The food... First, let me just say that I'm extremely picky when it comes to barbecue. There are few BBQ places that I like, and fewer still that impress me. Well, this place has THE best barbecue I've ever had! (For anyone wondering, I had the barbecue sausage sandwich, and a side of macaroni and cheese.) My husband had the brisket sandwich, and the brisket was also very tasty. Having just moved to the area, we will *definitely* be coming back again, and we both even recommended it to my mom, who also loved it! read more

R Place - R Place's menu. The German Potato Salad does have onions in it, just in case anyone with an onion allergy is curious. - Desserts Near Me - Washington, Texas

The Saturday night meals are well worth the drive from wherever you are. You get whatever item he's serving that night but you won't complain. You'll just finish your plate and look over to the others at the table to see if there are any leftovers for you to take. The setting could not be anymore quaint and you're in the middle of no where. 100% worth the money and time. read more

CYCLISTS FRIENDLY!! WOOHOO!! (see foot note) I have been wanting to stop for weeks to check this place out but seeing as they don't open until 11 AM I'm usually riding by too early. Rolled up around lunch time this Sunday due to a late start and took the opportunity to get off of the bike for a much needed rest and refueling. I almost didn't get back on the bike because I found my self in food heaven lol!! I was greeted by the awesome owner which I am terribly embarrassed to say I never asked for his name (that oversight will be corrected on my next visit). The lunch menu was simple with bbq brisket, sausage, and chicken salad sandwiches. Other than a bag of chips the only other side available was the German Potato Salad (which as you'll find out below is the only side they need to serve). I decided to go with the chicken salad sandwich which was served up very quickly and wow was it good. Much more chicken than salad I am pleased to say with crunchy fresh lettuce, ruby red tomatoes, and dill pickle slices. I wolfed it down as fast as I could. And now for the German Potato Salad. This stuff is knock-your-socks-off-slap-your-momma-good!! I'm consider myself a potato salad fan and I can honestly say this is the best I've ever had. The owner / chef (I have to to get his name) starts off by reducing bacon, and draining off the fat to be mixed with sugar, vinegar, salt, and a couple of other ingredients that I can't remember because I was shoveling it into my mouth one bite after the other. The owner said he likes it best when it is fresh and warm but mine had been refrigerated which I liked better for a warmish afternoon. The only reason I didn't finish it off completely and lick the plate was because I still had another twenty miles to ride back to Chappell Hill. If your going to Washington-on-the-Brazos you have to stop here for lunch. If you're a local the Saturday night dinners should be a must do. *Cyclists Notes: I was chatting up the owner and mentioned that I always park in Chappell Hill and with the corresponding summer heat dictated early starts I would probably drive back to his place for lunch post-ride before driving back to Houston. He suggested that I park in the back of his place for the launch / finish so I wouldn't have to drive back from Chappell Hill for lunch. Sheer genius on his part!! Tips to make this work for you and your cycling buddies: 1) Park all the way in the back behind the barbecue pit. DO NOT BLOCK ANY OF THE SEVERAL DRIVEWAYS ON THE PROPERTY. (It's called being polite.) 2) The place will be closed if you you show up before 11 AM so if you have to use the restroom or fill your water bottles up do it in Navasota. 3) The owner is super friendly and expressed a real interest in serving the cycling community. DO NOT be a cycling snob if you choose to patronize this business!!! read more

Wow!! I've been wanting to come here for years after stumbling upon R Place at a 4th of July celebration at Washington on the Brazos park. It's about an hour's drive from where I live in NW Harris County. I called one of the numbers on the website for reservations and left a message. I never heard back from anyone, so my husband and I took a chance there'd be room for us. When we walked in, there was a man in the corner playing blues on his guitar. This is a very authentic Texan diner. Tin ceiling, tin wall, barn wood everywhere. Casual dress. On Saturday night, there's no menu. You get what the chef has been preparing all day .This night we had roasted pork loin, with fresh garden tomatoes. An organic greens (from their own garden) salad with blue cheese, onion, tomatoes (again, their own garden) and balsamic vinegar. I was very, very happy with the flavor and freshness of the salad. It was a nice size too. We were seated in a back room which has room for about 4 tables. My husband and I could talk at a decent level, the other tables are a nice distance from you so you don't feel like you must whisper. Also my husband said his beer was ICE COLD. My cabernet was chilled too but it didn't take long for it to settle down to room temp. For starters, you are given a basked of a warm loaf of bread and baked brie with pesto. The bread was very fresh and almost sour dough tasting, and the large half moon brie was super yummy. Then we got our salad. After that we got our pork loin and huge sliced tomatoes on the side. The three pork loin slices were thick cut, and roasted with a rosemary crust. There was very, very little fat on this pork. My husband and I were in awe of how good this food was. The pork also had a guyere sauce atop that was not overpowering, or thick, or too creamy or too thin. It was perfect. If it were socially acceptable, I probably would have licked my plate. We then had homemade bluebell ice cream for dessert. Never have I enjoyed a bowl of ice cream as I did on this night, it was the perfect dessert for a perfect dinner. I heard this place serves killer BBQ, too. After wards we went outside to the picnic tables, where it was so nice and breezy, to look at the flower and vegetable garden. We met a really nice diner Kathleen who was celebrating her birthday and had 16 of her friends in the main room. Everyone seemed so nice and welcoming. We truly enjoyed our evening, and will definitely be back. read more

Great moist brisket! Plus, they have an art gallery in the back. Prices are super reasonable. We came for lunch and it sounds like you need reservations for dinner during its busy times. But, the key point here is that the moist brisket is amazing. read more

This place had a wonderful atmosphere. We felt like we were amongst friends. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The bread pudding was amazing! We will definitely come back again. read more

Went here this weekend for a dinner with another couple and had a great meal. Quiet enough to enjoy conversation and the food was excellent. The wine list was good and food excellent. Worth the drive but check the availability. Small location out in the country with a beautiful drive. Check the website for menu as it is limited. read more

A happy family of four gives this five stars. Oldest child: I recommend the sausage plate. It is so flavorful and left me full. Youngest child: I tried the sandwich and its really good. Grownups: Sausage and brisket (or sliced beef) were both great. Hula hoops outside for the kids. Good beer selection for the adults. Very nice owner/ staff. Perfect place to stop on the way on the park... read more

Quirky little place. German potato salad was very good. Pinto beans were average. Brisket was disappointing, a bit dry. Maybe because we arrived late afternoon? Sausage was average. The barbecue plate was large enough for 2 people. So we were glad we only got one to split. read more

Not a big menu, but its all good! BBQ beef, sausage and ribs with the usual sides and chicken salad, and thats it.

Fun joint, worth the stop! Between the atmosphere, the characters running this awesome sandwich shop and the peach cobbler, this little eatery in a historical building is a must stop. Chicken salad sandwich was awesome, but sausage and beef were good as well. Have a pint on the Brazos, and be sure to talk with the owners. read more

I was in the area this weekend and had read about this place online. Me and my wife stopped in and were pleasantly surprised. We had the chopped beef and German potatoe salad, and let me tell you, it was to die for. The owner is a great guy and fun to talk to as well. They have live music and a fine-dining dinner on some Saturdays. The beer selection is pretty outstanding as well. read more

What a great local BBQ place with a twist! The place was filled with families and couples and the owner makes you feel right at home The BBQ is pretty tasty & was surprised to find one of the sides was homemade German style potato salad. The chicken salad was pretty good too. Despite the rustic casual decor, they have an excellent selection of beers & wines as well, wines are not something that you usually find in a BBQ place. Only open on weekends but the real surprise is the by reservation Sat. nite gourmet dinners that include a really nice wine list selection. It maybe out in the middle of the country but this is a definate great "foodie" find read more

We've dined at R Place several times and thoroughly enjoyed it. We found it by accident and were pleasantly surprised. They serve a special entree every weekend and it's always been delicious. The couple who own it are very nice and very professional. We've even been to a wine tasting there. They have a nice selection of wine. The locals love the place. Worth the drive from Houston. read more

My family and I stopped at R Place because we had seen a rerun of The Day Tripper where this restaurant had ben featured. We loved the juicy meat. The Germn style potato salad is really good. We ordered the three desserts they have. They all were delicious but when you go you have to try the bread pudding in the rum sauce! read more

Way out in the country! Great service & excellent brisket sandwich. Loved the doors being open on a cool day in April.

Great BBQ! Loved sitting outside underneath the trees and taking in the scenery. The dog was happy to see you and loved to be petted.
