I ended up with one of their "Handhelds" of the Besto Pesto that included sliced turkey, homemade pesto (nut-free too!), mayo, and some delicious house made pickles. This sando came with a side of house made chips as well and was the portion for my lunch. Since I was driving back to Austin (an hour+ away) I decided to get through all of what was on my plate and not take any leftovers home but I could've!!! I really loved their decor and the long large and beautiful wooden community table they had near the back of the cafe. I saw a whole group of women (more than 6 of them!) gathered around, chatting, and having tea. I assumed they were locals because like them, I would be hanging out here all day with my laptop and/or friends all day if I could. And they keep the place exceptionally clean. Our server made us feel very welcome even though we showed up just before closing time (they close at 2 pm Tue - Sun and are closed all day Monday). Half the menu was breakfast and the other half was lunch. Beverages were colas, coffee, tea, lemonade and horchata. Lunch here is your typical Mexican lunch menu: tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, fajitas, etc. They also had two specials today: Enchiladas Verde and Quesabirria Tacos. We tried and enjoyed both. The enchiladas had a lot of chicken in them. And while the birria lacked its typical au jus to dip the tacos in, they were still quite authentic and flavorful. The complimentary chips and salsa comes with a bean dip, and with two additional chile options, a spicy red chile and a chile verde. It was nice having all those options. For a healthier option, they also offer a large bowl of tortilla soup with spanish rice on the side. I'm not sure why they choose to open a Mexican restaurant right next to a Mexican restaurant, but the two restaurants are very different and keep different hours. We will come back to try their breakfast, as that appears to be their specialty.

It was cooked to perfection and had all the right ingredients. I tried the steak sandwich and was not disappointed. The steak was tender and the garlic aioli might be the best I've ever had. Don't sleep on the fries either, cooked in beef tallow bringing out a wonderful flavor. The cocktails we got, French 75 for my wife and a Moscow Mule for me, were mixed perfectly with a great balance. Come here for the food and stay for the conversation. The entire staff was a pleasure to interact with. If you're from the big city, this is exactly what you're missing. You'll want to be a part of this wonderful town after visiting. At first, I thought she was the only server working, so I was patient. However, I soon noticed there were other servers on the floor. It still took over 20 minutes before she came to take our order. We ordered the Farmhouse breakfast with biscuits and sausage, a kids' Farmhouse with pancakes, and breakfast tacos. Nearly 45 minutes passed before our food arrived. During that time, my coffee never came, and no one checked on our table. When the food finally arrived, my order was wrong. I received toast instead of biscuits and bacon instead of sausage. Lauren apologized and said she would bring the correct items, but they didn't arrive until we had already finished eating. To make matters worse, when I asked to speak with the manager, no manager could be found. I understand that restaurants can get busy, and I'm usually very patient. What was most frustrating wasn't just the wait, but the lack of communication, urgency, and basic customer service throughout the meal. It's unfortunate because The Gathery is a small business that I'd like to support, but experiences like this make it difficult to return.
