We were starving from a long day on the road and so glad we stopped at Elvira's. Turns out, it's a little authentic Mexican cafe. Salsa's fantastic (served warm), the food's fresh and delicious, sauces were excellent. They served our orders quickly and we were on our way. I will be back one day. read more

At first sight it's not very inviting and honestly the decor is not much better, but for a small town joint it's pretty good. In fact I thought the breakfast overall and service was great. Cheap, great food, open at 6am. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the lady was cheery when we walked in at 6:05. Coffee is good black and you can probably order anything on the menu without having to worry about going hungry. Tacos are ridiculously large and the filling was excellent. Lots of cheese, plenty of meat, and home made tortillas. The potatoes had a great texture to them and seem like they were from fresh and not frozen potatoes. The have a green and mild sauce that went pretty well and had decent flavor and kick. Now I want to go back for the biscuits and gravy or chicken fried steak. We adored stopping in for brunch on our way to Houston. The place was empty and the people looked exhausted. I asked if they had just had a rush and the lady said, oh yes, "the crowd juuust left." They brought our our food fast and it was all very fresh and tasty. I had fajitas and veggies to keep Keto. Our kids had various tacos and pancakes with bacon and eggs and my husband had migas with beef fajitas. I don't know when will be able to go back because of their hours but I'm hoping soon! read more

Maybe it was an off day or we came in near closing, but I wasn't impressed. My chicken fried steak seemed like it was fried a couple of days ago. It tasted burned but yet it wasn't. Had a appointment in Giddings earlier in the morning, I heard that they have good tacos. I ordered the combo, bacon, potatoes, beans, cheese and eggs, my spouse got a napalos (misspell) taco. Great restaurant, food is authentic and always tastes great. Saturdays are always very busy, definitely worth the wait. I can't pick one favorite because it is all good. Stopped at this place on way back home, thought it had to be good because lots of cars in parking lot. If the locals eat here it has to be good, wrong. Best coffee I have had in a long time, so if you just get that you are good to go. Looking for a local breakfast spot with good reviews. We gave this place a shot and it was a little disappointing... Ordered the Southwest Omelet and the veggies weren't sautéed. It was still decent but it's just not an omelet without that extra step. The jelly had mold and no butter so had to settle for dry toast. As far as the atmosphere, a little artwork can make the biggest difference. On the bright side, the waitresses were friendly and prices are good. And we were able to satisfy our hunger! read more

Took my better half out for brunch. She had the daily lunch special which consisted of a taco, enchilada, a chimichanga, tostada, rice and beans with a chunk of pineapple/coconut cake. I choose the 3-egg meat lovers (bacon,ham & sausage) omelette with grilled onions, jalapenos, bell pepper and tomatoes hash browns and wheat toast. Both meals wit coffee's were only $18! Let me tell you that was the best damn omelette I have ever eaten in my life! Overstuffed with goodies and topped with cheddar cheese, the combination of all the flavors was just incredible! She was in hog heaven also, finishing her entire meal (which rarely EVER happens) The hours of operation are only 6 AM to 2 PM but you can order anything from the menu during this time. Very dirty and not well maintained. My husbands chicken fried steak was thin and burned and so was my sausage. The lady (guessing the manager) was yelling at her workers across the restaurant. And just when I didn't think it couldn't get any worse, she started cleaning near our table... I was overwhelmed with the smell of bleach and the sound of her slamming chairs. Just very rude. The food is superb when the cook can be found. The coffee either doesn't have refills or else they just ignored us and all of the dirty tables around the the place. We drove to this restaurant while passing through Giddings Saturday morning and found that IT IS OPEN AND BUSY! I'm not sure why someone posted it is closed but it is open and has a very good following. We had a very nice well prepared breakfast.
