Machacado plate

Driving from Houston to Austin. Got hungry. Stopped here. Had machacado. It was pretty darn good. The salsas, the tortillas, and especially the service as well. Try it out.

Bacon, egg, & cheese burrito

I stopped in here for breakfast while waiting for my truck to get serviced at the nearby Ford dealership. I got a bacon, egg, and cheese burrito which was easily the mass of a dwarf planet. I'd say it was about equivalent to 3 typical tacos. Very nice blend of ingredients in my opinion because I love the bacon just as much as the next guy. I had unsweetened tea to drink that was great (I'm a bit of a tea snob) but would've been marginally better with a lemon slice. The staff was calm and pleasant to interact with. It was a quiet ambiance which I like. There was music playing in the kitchen area but it was low volume and tasteful. Nothing not to like about this visit.

Huevos al a mexicana

Great little place. Must be the spot. Nonstop traffic from when we sat down until we left. Looking for a good value breakfast with great flavor, this is a great spot. The green salsa is amazing!

We stopped at another place in La Grange but, their dining room was not open so we left. We found this place and this was a great find. The Machado (dried shredded beef scrambled with eggs, onions, tomato, serrano, and cheese.) So tasty and delicious. Both salsas that they bring to the table were tasty as well, green being a little more spicy that the red. Don't get me wrong the red was just as fabulous. My husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros plate (Two eggs your way, topped with salsa ranchera, served with bacon, beans, and potatoes.) He also added a side of Beef Fajita Meat as he saw someone elses plate order, and asked what their plate was. He ordered the same. The Rancheros sauce was the best we have had so far, it was thicker, well seasoned and luscious. Potatoes cooked well, seasoned, and brown whoo hoo. They obviously know how to cook. The beef fajita meat on the side also savory perfectly seasoned and scrumptious. If you are out here in La Grange and wanna eat delicious Mexican food I'm telling you stop by this cozy little red building and vibe with this family run restaurant that is homey and makes you feel good, plus the food is fabulous. Order it all you won't be disappointed.

This is the real deal for breakfast tacos. Everything there is homemade and so delicious. You should try the green sauce, spicy but good.

One of the highlights of the meal was the fresh, homemade tortillas. They were warm, soft, and clearly made in-house, making the fajitas even more enjoyable. The fajitas themselves were flavorful, tender, and arrived sizzling hot. And if you're in the mood for a margarita, be prepared--they're gigantic! Definitely big enough to help you unwind after a day of traveling. The only downside was the service. We came in for a later lunch, and it felt like the staff was eager to clear our table while we were still finishing up. A little later, we realized the staff was getting ready to eat their own meal. I completely understand wanting to take a break, but it would have been nice if someone had simply let us know they were about to close for a staff meal. That bit of communication would have made the experience feel much more welcoming instead of rushed. Overall, the food was the standout, especially the fresh tortillas and delicious fajitas. I'd happily return for the food and those oversized margaritas.

I got two enchiladas with a guacamole salad and a cheese puff. I had no idea what the cheese puff was and it was very disappointed to find out it was nothing more than a small taco salad bowl filled with cheese. The guacamole salad was very small. I was not wild about the taste of either the beef or the cheese enchilada. But my friend got shrimp fajitas and they looked good, smelled good and tasted so good! Everything was prepared very well, especially the shrimp. If I go back again, I will definitely know what to order and what not to order lol The staff was very friendly and very attentive!

It's 4 lanes, not a lot of traffic and limited access as well. Nice low stress return to I-10 after a tasty lunch. The building obviously used to be a home and the inside just further confirms it. Lots of comfortable seating throughout. Parking is all around the building and much of it is in shade from several large trees on the property. It was lunchtime busy when we arrived but we got seated quickly and the service never faltered. The pimento cheese and sausage appetizer was so good. Picky eater got 2 plain chopped brisket tacos and enjoyed them. I got the brisket plate and was surprised to find sausage on there too. The slaw and beans for sides were good choices. Both were very tasty and definitely all their own recipe. We enjoyed it enough that we shall be hoping that lunchtime timing works out again when we are eastbound on I-10 in this area.

We ran into a couple of signs on our way down the highway and The Back Porch BBQ peaked our interest so we stopped in. Parking and location was super easy to get to and navigate. This is a small town BBQ spot so I for sure was impressed with how many folks were inside dining and how many cars the lot could hold. It was a Saturday afternoon and everyone had tables full of delicious barbecue that we passed in front of as we got sat by the friendly staff. We loved the moist brisket sandwich, fall off the bone pork ribs, plus Later on we ordered 1lb of their jalapeno cheddar sausage to go and had it the very next day while back at home in Austin. The sausage was so juicy and succulent that we didn't regret having leftovers for even another meal - morning breakfast with egg - the next day. Portions were large and there was plenty of food to bring back home with us to enjoy later. Great and wonderful and attentive staff is what makes this spot even that more enjoyable.

I had to stop at a gas station and use the rest room and I asked if there was any place good around to eat. The gas station attendant pointed us to La Marina. When you pull up, its a tiny, brick building and it really reminded me of a building that should have been a Moose Lodge or a VFW instead of a restaurant. Maybe it was at sometime, I don't know. The parking lot is pretty small. Most of the spots are actually right up against the road with no curb or divider at all and they aren't marked. Walking in though, it smelled delicious and we were really pleasantly surprised with the food. The salsa was more liquid than chunky, but the flavor was delicious. It was the perfect blend of spice, tomatoes, cilantro and onion. I hadn't read Andrew's review, but I also got the combo place with a flauta, taco, chalupa and I got a chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce. My favorite part of the meal was the Chalupa. It was covered with refried beans, flavorful taco meat, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. I had my father with me, a Michigan native, and he even went so far to say that it was the best Mexican food that he's had in Texas. If you are traveling between Houston and Austin or are just on TX-71 for some reason, give La Marina a try. I don't think you will be sorry you stopped.
