Hubs is over the moon with the Rueben("wow" "fantastic" "my god, so good") and the shoestring home fries are hit, salty and perfect. My chicken salad chicken is tangy, peppery, with large chunks of chicken on top of a balsamic dressed set of mixed greens and no shortage of tomatoes. So good! So went by planning my breakfast in the area and sadly the Blue Willow is gone. Someone is painting a "Seafood and Steaks" sign. We have gone to the Burton cafe two versions, the German version that followed and the last five years, Blue Willow. Only open on Friday Saturday Sunday, but fun and great food. I went on a day trip to from Austin to Brenham and made a pit stop in Burton for this quaint little cafe. Immediately the staff greeted us with a smile and quickly sat us down. Staff was overall incredibly kind and warm. The place was clean and aesthetically pleasing. I ordered the Classic French toast with potatoes and bacon. My friend got the Burton Farmhouse plate. And OMG the French toast was to die for. It was thick cut and perfectly fluffy with a slight cinnamon taste. The potatoes were crisp and perfectly seasoned. The bacon was also beautifully crisped and salty. I had some of my friends pancake and also approved! The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars was because the coffee and beverage quality could be better. Coffee tastes a bit burnt and the orange juice was not the best but that honestly was such a minimal detail that I truly did not care too much about. Stopped at the Blue Willow Cafe on our way back to Austin. The mostly white interior gives this charming restaurant a country home feeling. The menu had plenty of choices making it difficult to decide. I decided on the smoked salmon bagel with breakfast potatoes (home fries). I throughly enjoyed my breakfast and the smoked salmon was one of the best I've had in TX. My wife enjoyed the farm house breakfast with bacon and the potatoes. Eggs were cooked nicely,bacon was thick and cooked well but not crispy. The toast, fresh baked and thick. They were busy and we did have to wait for coffee but overall our server was pleasant. This place came highly recommended by one of our friends. However when we showed up, they told us it was a 45 minute wait. There were four tables opening up and only one group waiting outside. It was a small place and I could tell they weren't used to people of color walking in. I got the really small town vibe. I honestly felt discriminated. I give this high marks for being a cute little cafe with extremely friendly staff and a fresh new menu. The hot cakes are just that 1 inch thick each and they pile them 3 high per order. Definitely filling. The French toast was great with the fresh bread. Large portions on every plate. I ate here 10 years ago and it was dark and dingy, needed to be freshened up and it has been. Perfect meal perfect service, perfect meal. Sunday is breakfast only. It was so good we dug in and ate it all before I could take pictures of our food! Ordered the cream baked oatmeal. I stumbled across this restaurant on a drive through Burton and decided to check it out. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. We sat outside because it was such a nice day. But there's plenty of indoor seating as well. The servers are really nice and attentive. We started with an ice coffee and peach lemonade- both delish! Then we ordered the bourbon peach pecan French toast and the blueberry lemon pancakes. They were awesome and so flavorful. Plus, really big portions. I got the side of potatoes, they were sooo good! Nothing can divide people like politics - and maybe pancakes. Had the pleasure of brunching at Blue Willow today in adorable Burton. We knew the service might be slow based on previous reviews (it was) but we weren't in a hurry - just hungry. The staff was friendly- just busy and understaffed in the front and maybe in the kitchen as our food took a very long time to come out. And here's where the pancake controversy comes in. I decided to splurge and have the blueberry lemon curd pancakes. Just the idea of what I thought they would be delighted me! I went with bacon and breakfast potatoes and a peach tea. Companion did classic pancakes with fruit and sausage and a coffee ( just one cup as no refills were offered). The breakfast potatoes were maybe the best ever - perfectly fried potatoes. Some might have liked seasoning but they were so well cooked, I was glad they weren't competing with heavy seasoning. Very small portion but A+. The two strips of bacon were fine. Now the pancakes - I guess my expectations were too high. I envisioned hot fluffy, light golden sweet pancakes with a creamy generous layering of lemon curd and blueberry compote and fresh blueberries- maybe lightly sprinkled with powder sugar or topped with a dollop of homemade cream with fresh blueberries and lemon zest. This was not that. The cakes were very dense, not very sweet and the lemon curd and blueberry layering was "gently" done. Some may love them like this but I prefer a little more decadence for this kind of carb and calorie splurge. But I would have eaten those potatoes all day. My companion felt similar on her classic cakes. They were very dense, not very sweet and pretty dry and tough. The sausage patties were tasty. The fruit was fruit. Maybe we ordered wrong. Maybe our expectations were too high. Maybe our pancake aspirations are unrealistic. In any case, I'd still go and give this cute place a try - just don't be in a hurry. read more

Stopped at this cute cafe after picking. up my nephew at Camp For All. A must if you are out this way. We had the Lemon curd blueberry pancakes, salmon Benedict and Peach Bourbon French toast. Stopped in for a laid back brunch on a trip to the hill country. Quiet homey restaurant. Friendly service. Often busy and there can be a wait for food but it's good food. We weren't in a rush. Food was good and reasonably priced. Good bakery items available to go. The homemade bread is amazing and used for the French Toast. One thing to be aware of: they say closed at 1:00pm but they really stop letting people in and taking orders at 12:30pm. We saw people who showed up before 1:00pm but were turned away confused and disappointed. We arrived at noon and there was no problem. We'll be back. read more

Being a Washington County resident and already having a limited selection of good places to eat, I always want to see places succeed. This holds true for Blue Willow Cafe, they have a great menu, the place is clean and comfortable and simply have a ton of potential however... they simply need new recipes for their biscuits and their pancakes. I tried the biscuits and gravy this morning and found the biscuits to be extremely dry (not typical biscuit dry but more like 3 day old sandwich bread dry), I left more than 3/4 on my plate. My son tried the pancakes with the blueberries and lemon curd and the pancakes were extremely dense with no flavor at all, he left more than 1/2 on his plate. Additionally, I observed a couple at a nearby table that had ordered the same we had and they also left the majority of their food as well. We did enjoy the scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee and iced tea... they were all on point. I look forward to giving this cafe another try down the road sometime after they have an opportunity to make some changes. I definitely wish them much luck and success. read more

We there on Saturday, arrived at 8:00 when they opened. Husband asked for salsa on the side instead of on top of his eggs, the "chef" wouldn't do it. I ordered biscuits and gravy. After about 5 minutes the waitress told us the biscuits and gravy wouldn't be ready for another 30 minutes. What?! Atmosphere seemed very arrogant. Needless to say, we left.
