We could bring our own food and the staff let us know we could sit inside or outside . Outside was great with the field views and soaking the December sun in..-and drinking wine . We then went inside and that was equally comfortable ! The tasting went great with friendly service and we were able to hang out and talk in such a friendly and inclusive space . Stopped by whilst photographing wildflowers in the area outside the winery on Route 1948. Very glad I did so! Saddlehorn does a great job setting the Texas theme, as once you're down their driveway you'll come across what looks like a section of railway bridge spanning an old cattle pond. There's also a Remington-esque cowboy sculpture to greet you as you pull up to the red barn exterior. What can I say, after seeing so many places pretending to be Tuscany-in-Texas, I like their approach. There's a nice selection of wines, available as a flight of 6 tastes for $10. I particularly appreciated that in addition to the reds, they had a pair of rosé wines more than a few whites to try. Save for one selection that we found a little too sweet, the rest ranged from very good to excellent - so much so that we ended up taking home a bottle of their Riesling! In regards to a certain rating of this winery from September 2018 - I look pretty darned Asian and I experienced nothing but respect and friendly service from the staff at the Saddlehorn. We were headed home to Austin from Houston and stopped by this winery midday during the week. Most other wineries are closed during this time, so it was nice that they were open. There was only one other group there at that time, but we didn't mind having the place basically to ourselves, but a little background music couldn't hurt! We each tried 6 wines. Each tasting is $10. I really enjoyed a majority of their wines. I even purchased the semi-sweet blanc du bois to take home. I'm looking forward to enjoying a glass of it this week! I would definitely recommend stopping by this place during your travels! If you want to be discriminated against for being young and/or a person on color (Asian, Iranian, Mexican, White, Black). I would recommend not coming here. The place looks nice. They stop cooking Pizza at 3pm. The first thing you think when you walk in is, damn this place reeks of urine. The souvenirs are filled with cheesy rhinestoned attire. Walk outside on their patio and you will smell very strong calcified urine. The wine wasn't as good as Texas star. And the service was not as good as Texas star. (Go to Texas star) Show one ID = get one wine glass; that's fair. But what's not fair is being glared at by the guests and staff. We had one guy with us, over-served, loud and drunk. I was embarrassed. But I didn't over-serve him, and I wasn't being loud. Yes, they had to flag down our over-served friend because they asked for a card to start a tab and he didn't close it. (This place operates more like a bar and less like a winery). But you can just charge the card on walked tabs, like any other place... Actually, even after staff members realized that our guy was hammered, they still allowed us to buy 2-3 more bottles. If it was a TABC covert operation, they would have been fined. What we did get, was harassed, unwelcoming looks (you definitely feel like you are in a movie in the south where segregation just became legalized), and rude attitude from the bar staff. I'm glad we left; the wine here was not good and I would recommend skipping this establishment. The tasting room is in a restored/converted horse barn; and the 390 acre property is complete with vineyards, a small lake, bridge, parking, outdoor seating... Cute winery a short hop off Hwy 290 between Austin and Houston. We stopped in on our way back from Austin and were glad we did. They offer a 5 sample tasting for $10. They also have wines by the bottle or glass, if you don't want to commit to a bottle. The wines vary from dry to very sweet, so there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. They also have cheese trays and wood fired pizzas if your planning to stick around and didn't bring a picnic basket with you. The staff were all super friendly and helpful in selecting which wines we should try. We left with 5 bottles of wine and a belly full of pizza. This is our first winery visit and probably not our last, we enjoyed sampling different wines, looking at all their cool merchandise, and learned a little bit about wines. They have an outdoor pizza oven they fire up on Saturdays...weather permitting.....we didn't come on that day but the pictures people posted on Yelp looked good. I loved the tables and chairs crafted out of old wine barrels. The winery is located on some beautiful property, lots of wild flowers in bloom right now, you get to drive across an old riveted iron bridge to get to it. read more

Cute place. Very roomy. Clean. Plenty of parking outside. We were the first to arrive Friday am when they opened. Tasting option is 6 for $15 which is a bargain these days. Missy, our server, was excellent. I enjoyed the Pinot and Black Spanish while my friend enjoyed most of the sweeter wines and Malbec as well as Tempranillo. On weekends I think they offer pizza. Hands-down our favorite winery we toured during our Brenham area weekend winery tour. Of SEVEN this was THE BEST!! First the location is the prettiest. I would say it goes head-to-head with Bernhardt which is also beautiful. The big barn is adorable and the overall feeling is very cozy and comfortable. We had a group of 8 fun-loving, large personality, laugh abundant females so we weren't difficult to please. But this winery stood out. The wines were wonderful. The quality was top notch, the flavors were wonderful. There was a flavor (or more) for everyone and we had plenty of opinions on what tasted the best but everyone liked something. The cost for the tasting was totally fair for how many, the quality, variety and experience. The service was exceptional. The 2 girls that took care of us made time to ask questions about what we might like, they were very knowledgeable and fun. We ordered 3 pizzas and the bruschetta and there wasn't a crumb left on any plate. The other wine related items for sale in the store were reasonable and cute and there were several items we saw there that were unique to this winery. I came to this winery for a friends birthday. I was surprised to see that there were wineries in Brenham. When we arrived...the decor was lovely. A real Texas style feel. We were presented with cards to select our wine selection, up to six drinks. I chose mine and then proceeded to sit in the large chairs in the back. I then noticed they had crackers and cheese to go with the tasting. I purchased a tray for our group. I then asked the young lady behind the counter where the restroom was. After coming back from the RR, I noticed you had to go to the bar to have the tasting. Yes, you have to stand at the bar. Me having restless leg syndrome, standing is not something I can do a lot of. So I had my four tastings. I decide to go and join my group for conversation, thinking I had two more tastings. I noticed it was getting late, so I decided to have my final tastings at the bar. When I requested my final two..I decided to take a cute pic on the saddle. Not to mention my RLS was kicking in. The bartender tells me she's cutting me off, bc she felt I was at my limit. ARE YOU SERIOUS?? I asked her how...she begins to proceed to say she has the right to and bc I was sitting on the saddle. I have an ailment that requires I sit after a long time of standing. At this time I'm livid, because I'm being discriminated because of my handicap. To add insult to injury I was told I had to pay for the full tasting, even though SHE decided to cut me off. How dare you?? I feel like she was are ready to leave because it was 5 mins to close..and she decided to lie. I was high offended and I told her, you will definitely hear about this again. To anyone that will listen...DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Or at least until they properly train their rude and discriminatory staff. I will be contacting the owner and manager first thing Tuesday to discuss this. I feel I was discriminated and to the fullest. This little gem about an hour outside of Houston is our new favorite winery. They are open every day and offer a 5 wine choice for their tastings for around $10 per person. Their host, Emily, is a doll and is very helpful with helping you make decisions. She can also answer any question no matter how basic or complex regarding wine. We are no experts by any stretch but we don't worry when we go because we know what we like and the place is so down to earth. On the weekend they have brick oven pizzas and there is space to sit inside and outside depending on your choice and of course the Texas heat. We will continue to visit and recommend this winery whether you are just a novice or an experienced wine enthusiast. We are looking forward to our next visit ! read more

This place is just perfect! Great drive, easy parking. They have a gift shop that has adorable t-shirts and other small wine related boutique items. My friend is a member here, and I decided to join her. The by the glass area is open to the public. We were picking up her wine, and included is a 6 tastings. Out back it's where it's at. They have larger tables and a little live entertainment The wood fired pizzas are so good! Perfect after a glass or two of vino. Member and non member pricing is very reasonable. I cannot say enough great things about Saddlehorn! Upon arriving, the grounds are beautiful and the tasting room is cute and rustic. There is a small gift shop area when you enter as you walk towards the tasting counter. There was a large variety of wines to choose from and they were all wonderful. Our favorite was the Blanc du Bois (semi-sweet) and we both left with bottles. Their wines are at a price point that I rarely purchase at, but it was too good to pass up and they don't distribute widely so I purchased on the spot. They offer pizza from their wood burning oven. We did not have any, as we had stopped for food before we got there, but I'd love to come back and try it! The service was fantastic as well and they were very patient with us. We each got a free tasting and got discounted pricing on the wine we bought, which we were going to buy anyway! We had a couple pizzas which were fresh and hit the spot with the wine tasting. The staff were still super friendly, especially Jessica who helped us last time and remembered us and was really friendly and helpful. The Saddlehorn Winery is worth visiting if for no other reason beside enjoying a glass or bottle of their wines while sitting outside the tasting house amidst the wineries' pastoral setting. Two elements of my recent visit came as a surprise. First, only a few of the wines are produced using Saddlehorn's own grapes. Second,!they charge to "taste" ($10 to sample 6 wines). As someone who's been to many wineries in California and Washington state I can't recall paying to taste a wine I might actually purchase; perhaps even in a large quantity. Saddlehorn does peddle wine by the glass for $7-10 dollars and sells their bottles for $18-33. We tried about a third of Saddlehorn's catalog of wine and most were enjoyable to the palette with equal consistency. Saddlehorn is easily accessible from 290 and makes for a lovely afternoon road trip when you've time for a short excursion and a hankering to try a few Texas wines. read more

It's been a while since I've Yelped, but every once in a while you feel like you have to talk about an experience you've had somewhere. If you go through my reviews, you can see that I travel, and even if I don't like a place, I try and be gentle. The same will apply to this facility, but if you don't believe what I am writing here, and want to state that I am obviously trying to put this place to the ground, go back to my other reviews. I'm pretty fair. Here we go..... When we arrived at Saddlehorn, a woman and a man were walking out and driving away. We walked in, and another woman was at the register talking and buying a bottle of wine while her guy was waiting at a table. We weren't greeted, but I figured the one person working (a blond with curly hair a little above her shoulders) was trying to give each customer her undivided attention, so I went ahead and walked up to the bar and started to read the wine list sheets. I noticed that we could check the wines we wanted to try off, and since we both know what types of wines we like and the clerk was busy, we went ahead and marked off the wines we wanted to try. During this time, the woman that was leaving as we were getting there walked back in, after we had been at the bar for some time. Instead of greeting us or telling us she would be right with us, she went to tending to the woman that had left and came back in after us. We gave each other a little glance, but wanted to think that it must have been because she was worried that the lady that left came back because she forgot something. That wasn't the case. After a few minutes tending and talking to the woman that had departed and returned, the clerk finally came to us. She saw our list was filled out, said, "Ok, I'll get your first selection", and walked off. She brought our glass back, said nothing to us while she poured, and then walked off. She left for a few minutes while we tried our wine, and then came back and poured us our second sample without talking to us too much, and walked off again. Our third sample is where this story gets really interesting. When the clerk came up to us with the third bottle of wine, she poured and realized that there wasn't enough in the bottle to make a full sample, but another couple had come in mid-pour. As soon as she saw them, she welcomed them kindly and let them know she would be right with them. She told us she would be right back with another bottle, and walked over to the couple. As she was opening the bottle, she began to ask the other couple if they were from the bed and breakfast that was nearby, and had a lovely and polite conversation with them about their wines. While all this conversation with the new couple was going on, we were waiting at the other side of the bar for the rest of our sample. A few long moments in, we realized she wasn't coming back to finish the pour, so we went ahead and tried the half pour we were left with. Through all this, the clerk was still explaining all the wines, and how they were made..... We started to realize that all the things we were trying to write off prior might not just have been random occurrences. Because of the conversation that the clerk had with the other couple, I can tell you that their Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish are made from grapes grown on their estate. If I hadn't overheard it from that conversation, I wouldn't be able to tell you that at all. The fourth pour came exactly as the three prior, except that since she was now mingling with people she liked, it came several minutes after the third. I'd like to say this treatment wasn't because we were a little "different" than everyone else that came into the place. Maybe we still looked a little sweaty from the parade we watched prior to visiting (my guy's hair had poofed up from the humidity, and I tied my hair back to cool off, but we didn't smell... Promise!). Regardless of the reason, it was obvious that we weren't as welcome as everyone else, and it felt horrible. No place of business should make anyone feel that unimportant. We loved their Blanc du Bois sweet and the Black Spanish. We wanted to buy them. Unfortunately, we couldn't rationalize buying from people that didn't care about our patronage. We ended up spending our money at the other really well-Yelped winery in Brenham, where everyone was nothing but nice and helpful. Needless to say, I don't think we'll be back. Or maybe we will. This winery was the last stop of our day and the perfect place to end the last day of 2016. It's off the beaten path and you will come upon it suddenly if you aren't paying attention. The winery is beautiful. The land is well kept and the outside porch looks out across beautiful scenery. I suggest being there around sunset to experience one of the most beautiful sunsets. There is ample seating outside but not much inside which is dedicated to their huge bar for customers to order at and random souvenirs. We had a great server but I wish she had explained the wine more. You choose 6 wines for $10 (a great deal) but the only explanation we got was the last two of both categories are sweeter. Their port was the most popular with our group but my favorite was their Chardonnay. It was a great wine that tasted fresh but not too sweet. A lot of Texas wineries tend to rely on their sweeter fruitier wines but that didn't seem to be the case here. They have pizza for sale there which everyone raved about but our group was keen on the free goldfish at the bar. This is a beautiful winery with lots of options but I will ask for more information on the wines when I go back. read more

This is a really new winery. Only about one year old. It's inside of a old metal horse barn. They've built a little wine bar/barn inside the big barn but it has this big window where you can view the big magical wine making apparatus (I don't know the fancy terms for these). We did two wine tastings. Usually at these Texas wineries I usually like all the foreign grapes that they use but I actually preferred the juice from the vines they grow here. I did not like the Chardonnay (but the Char Char doesn't usually do it for me), really liked the Blanc du Bois Estate, didn't like the Blanc du Bois sweet but the semi was ok, was bonkers for the Black Spanish Red! It almost smelled like spiced wine. I wanted to have an IV of this stuff (but I don't really want to just put it into my veins because frankly then I'd be missing out on the awesome taste). read more

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews because we had an amazing experience here! My husband and I decided to stop here on our way back from Fredericksburg. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We loved driving over the old wooden bridge. We were greeted by a very friendly and knowledgable girl by the name of Emily. We actually enjoyed every wine that we tried. Emily gave us wonderful information on each wine that we tried. The blanc du bois and the blank Spanish are grapes grown on the property. We were very impressed that even though she had at least ten customers in front of her she was able to greet everyone and make them feel at home. I visited Saddlehorn this past weekend as part of the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail - 10 wineries in 2 days.... Many of them I'd visited before, but Saddlehorn was a first so I was extremely excited to see what they had in store. As we walked up to the winery, we were already feeling the Texan/cowboy vibe. The place looks like a barn on the outside, but it absolutely cozy and comfortable on the inside. Great gift shop. Beautiful wood finishings. Tables and chairs. And some comfy looking living room type chairs in the corner. We saddled up to the bar and had our tasting. Their Red Barn wine was my favorite libation of the entire wine trail. Two glasses later, I was one happy cowgirl. The place really only loses one star for me because they make mostly white wine, which isn't my favorite. Also, when we got home we realized the red wine that I loved was actually produced and bottled in CA for Saddlehorn winery. That was a bit disappointing being on the Bluebonnet trail and wanting to enjoy all things Texan... All that to say, it was delicious and we brought a bottle to bring home with us. And I'm sure I'll return. I think I'll even give more of their whites a whirl. read more

It was an unplanned stop on the way to Burton and I'm glad we stopped. So far I've been very skeptical (to be honest, very critical) of TX-grown wine (too much of mineral content). In my 20+ years living in TX I never bought a bottle of TX wine! Today the history was changed! We tried 3 whites and 3 reds at this winery and I bought my very 1st bottle of TX-grown and locally made wine - Blanc du Bois. I highly recommend Saddlehorn! After visiting Fredericksburg three times, a friend and I decided to check out some wineries closer to Houston. This little gem rivals any of the wineries I've been to in the Texas Wine Country. Lovely building, grounds, decor, gift shop, and a variety of great-tasting wines. Britney took care of us at the bar for our wine tasting, and she was very knowledgeable about the wines and gave us great service. I especially enjoyed the Blanc du Bois, and what they refer to as their "Not Your Mama's Merlot" After starting here, I have to admit the rest of the wineries in the area were a let-down. My wife and I visited Saddlehorn as recommended by the proprietors of our nearby B&B. We went during the middle of the day on a Friday and it was pretty quiet. Overall, we had a good time. When you drive up you pull up to a red barn which houses the winery. They have a nicely appointed bar and some gift shop style offerings. You can sample their wares for a small fee, which includes an ample pour, and the bartender was friendly, although not particularly informative about the wines themselves. There seemed to be a nice outdoor patio but it was hot so we didn't really check it out. The wines themselves are pretty good. About half of them are sourced from local grapes and others from grapes purchased in California. The local wines vary in quality, but the sweeter varieties tend to be tastier. Overall, this is a nice way to spend an hour or so, and we took home a bottle for later. I'd recommend it. read more
