I bought my dream house and moved out to the hill country (Dripping Springs) about 5 weeks ago. I thought it was gonna be all "Sound of Music" like with deer and bunnies frolicking... I got that, with a healthy dose of scorpions, ticks (brown and gross bloated Lima bean looking ticks), wasps, and even a black widow. Sweet Jesus my immediate thought was "we must burn the house down and move." Bulwark came super recommended on my neighborhood Nextdoor app, and we called and were happy to hear they could be out in a few days. Our technician was Jeff, who was super awesome, very knowledgeable about all sorts of critters, and generally seemed to care that he treated every nook and crannie (Even the attic and he removed the switch plates and got 'em good). He promised to come back and retreat if we saw any of our friends again. Super duper nice guy. We are on the quarterly plan, which was far less than Terminix who we had in South Austin, and didn't even cover ticks. read more

We just bought a place and have spent the last couple of weeks painting etc. in preparation for our move. Suddenly we start seeing scorpion's inside the house, we are freaked out. I found Bulwark on Thumbtack around 9pm on a Sunday night. Monday morning I call and plead my case for speedy service. Showing complete empathy for our situation I'm told that a technician can be there between 12:30 and 2:00 pm. Around 1pm Mr. Lightsey knocks on my door, tool bag in hand. We talk for about 10 minutes. (I have lots of questions) He explains everything that he will do and spends the next hour plus servicing our house inside and out. I was surprised how thorough his procedure was. Mr. Lightsey was professional, informative and very patient with all of my questions. When we first signed up with Bulwark 14 years ago we never had any problems. They were on time, thorough, and never had problems coming back in between treatment periods to re-treat areas if we needed them to. The technicians were great. We then moved to our new home toward the end of 2019 and we decided to continue with Bulwark. Ever since we continued the service at our new home, service has been inconsistent, communication has been poor and we've had several occasions of no call, no show when we were expecting the technician to come. Today is no exception. We've been waiting since 10:30 a.m. for them to arrive and still no communication. We finally called the local Bulwark office, and got a sad apology and said they were running 1.5 hours behind. Why didn't they text us?! We've been more than patient using this service all these years, but this latest incident most likely is our last time with Bulwark. read more

Different guy each time with very little knowledge of what they are doing or why they are there. Three times they have come ignoring what I asked, no products put on my herbs, rats in my attic etc...! The person who showed up one of the times looked as if he had slept in his clothes, belly hanging out and filthy. He gave me his card and asked me to go on line and fill out a survey so he could get $15. Not very professional! Would not use this company, they get you to sign a contract that they charge your credit card $80 every 2 months. They send someone out who spends less than 30 minutes using probably $10 worth of chemicals on your perimeter of your home whether your there or not. This is a large company with many employees. I was on a conference call and he was fantastic at texting updates, being professional, and waiting until I had a free moment to review the service with him at the end when I was able to mute my call and step away. BEWARE: I signed up for a YELP one-time treatment and have received harassing phone calls requesting I pay a bill for "follow-up" treatments. No phone call, or scheduled appointment... never agreed to any continuation of service. they claim they came out and treated the exterior of the house "b/c no-one was home. Ha... thats what appointments are scheduled for. The chemicals they used were over the counter products I found on Amazon. They did not work well, but only got curious after watching on the first visit (only visit) the "exterminator" spent 10 minutes on interior. He squirted here and there and was off. We have a three level 5,000+ sq ft home. 10 minutes? LOL read more

The 3-hour window that your tech has to come out for a service is not very ideal. You don't show up to an appointment and expect to wait 3 hours before you're actually called. It doesn't allow you to do what you need to do, but rather be on standby waiting for your tech, which by the way, comes at the very last second. I took my whole day off work to wait on the guy who never showed up to do what I requested. When I called, I was constantly put on hold, received no callbacks, and had to cancel my service. They couldn't seem to get ahold of their techs to come out. Seems like they lack control here. Very disappointed. read more

We have been a Bulwark bimonthly customer for close to 4 years now. Here recently the service has really gone downhill. We were scheduled for service and the tech never came by. I called and they said that the tech came by according to their system. Well, according to me I was home ALL day and I know for a fact that the tech never came by because I never heard the doorbell nor did my camera catch anyone coming to our house. Even worse, my 'bimonthly' billing is now being charged way before the 2 months. I was last charged on 9/24/18 and I am already being charged again 11/9/18. I will be canceling my service and taking my business elsewhere. read more

Bulwark and Lavell Hicks are the best! Recently moved into a house that had some pest problems and signed up with Bulwark because they were referred to us by neighbors that use their service. They did the initial service and then said to call them and they would come back to for a free retreat if we saw any more bugs. So we called for a retreat and then after that they called us back to check on us! Lavell's awesome! Very thorough and nice to talk to and not annoyed by all our questions! Before being referred to Bulwark I had talked to two other pest companies that came out and gave me some ridiculously high estimates for all the stuff they said I needed done. Bulwark has great timing. The week after we moved into our new house, there was a tarantula out on our back deck when Bulwark came ringing our doorbell with a cold call. In order to get us to sign up with him, the guy offered to kill the tarantula, and his ploy worked (maybe he had planted the tarantula there ahead of time)? Anyway, we've used them for four years now, and they come every other month. They are always timely, always take their shoes off when entering the house, and always are professional, mature and friendly--never in a hurry. I even recently called another exterminator who my sister uses (she says he's cute) to get an estimate, and when I told him what we currently pay Bulwark, he said that he could not beat their price. read more

I've been a customer with Bulwark Exterminating for over fifteen years for a REASON. They're awesome. They come every month and spray the perimeter of my place with organic pesticide. They always leave an invoice and they come like clock work. If you have an issue inside, you call them and they come out for free (or as part of the bi-monthly bill) and treat as needed. Absolutely the worst customer service! I had indoor and outdoor service scheduled today. They called to confirm times yesterday. The rep showed up 1.5 hours early and before I made it home. They sent me a message that they had treated my yard. Funny thing is, ring apps showed they were only there a couple of minutes. All the fire ant mounds that lined the sidewalk to the front door had no treatment on them (and you can visually see the treatment they used). The backyard ring app captured no one in the yard. I called to complain about the fact the appointment time was kept and thus, I was going to pay for that service that I didn't get PLUS they clearly didn't do anything outside either. How fraudulent!!!! "Rudy" refused to apologize for this, he simply said, "I asked the rep to go back." I asked about the fact that they were going to charge me for service today that had clearly not been done and he said "what do you want me to do?" Ugh, idk, you work there! How about apologize and tell me this isn't how you do business but apparently it is! I've never come across a customer service person as rude and unprofessional as Rudy. Up until now, Mike was my service man and he did an excellent job. Too bad Rudy lost the company and Mike any chance I'd ever do business with them again. Take your money elsewhere or be sure to be home all day when they say they are coming or else you too may be billed for services not performed. read more

Scorpions all over the place! Having never used exterminating services before, I don't have comparisons but I am happy with Bulwark. Bulwarks initial treatment seemed very thorough. They treated the house inside, attic, behind walls removing A/C outlet covers to spray, under sinks along pipes and then the outside, putting wire mesh in weep holes and spraying for bugs. We are on a monthly contract, they arrive as scheduled without fail. When I do find a scorpion in the house and call them, they come out the next day and will treat inside and out on top of their regular monthly treatments. Scorpions are tough to treat, we failed doing it on our own. Bulwark has been treating our house monthly for almost 2 years, and thank goodness, seeing a scorpion inside the house is becoming a rare occurrence! 2015 edit. Since writing the original review, I decided to try a different pest control to see if they could do a better job getting rid of the scorpions. Did I really need to accept having a couple of scorpions in the house every month? NO! Ranger Pest Control costs about the same, only needs to come out quarterly, and during 2 years of their service, I RARELY get a scorpion in the house now. I vacillated between doing 2-stars vs 3.. but I think the "Meh" description of the two-star rating is closest to what I encountered in using Bulwark for 7-8 months. Being a new homeowner and not knowing when the last time the new-to-me home was sprayed was a little intimidating... so I checked Yelp, and Groupon, etc to see if there was a balance of "deal + reasonable ratings". Bulwark seemed to fit the bill. The first service seemed pretty thorough, inside and out. I didn't receive all of the service level that I was expecting (e.g. the tech did not go into the attic to spray and I was under the impression that it was included on the first job). No problem though. I kept them coming every two months. The 2nd service was lackluster, I happened to be home when the tech arrived and by default they do the outside only -- you have to request inside treatment if you want it. It's no additional charge, but you gotta ask. This too isn't any big deal, it was clearly communicated up front. I say the 2nd service was lackluster because I watched the guy do the service. He got a little OCD about putting pellets on fire-ant hills and "forgot" to do much else (e.g. spray the foundation and/or eaves). Subject to their guarantee -- I had them come out the next month (in between the every-other-month normal service) to treat inside and out. Again, I would say the service was mostly lackluster. The techs are always friendly and knowledgeable I just feel like they're not really paying that much attention to the details. I could go on, but this just about sums up my experience the other times they came out as well. So in summation, 1) It's perfectly adequate 2) The price is a little higher than the top-rated guys on Yelp in Austin 3) It's a little awkward to send a check back to their home office in Arizona vs paying here locally 4) Techs are friendly and knowledgable, but tend to get "distracted" 5) I used the service for 6 or 7 months. The service seems to last about a month, so to feel like I was getting the appropriate value I was needing to call them out once in between their regular schedule. In other words, the bugs started showing up again about 3 weeks after their regular service. 6) They come back out as many times as you want for free, and are very nice about it, I just think that if they were paying more attention and doing a better job during the regular service that I wouldn't need to call them back out every month. I have since cancelled Bulwark and am going to try a different company for a while. read more

We've used Bulwark for over 2 years and they have been great! If we have a problem between treatments - give them a call and with absolutely no hassle - they come out again at no charge. We've only done this once because we spotted a scorpion between treatments. We've been bug-free in our home. We recently moved and had our initial treatment done by Jessie and he really went the extra mile for our first treatment. We were referred to Bulwark my a friend after moving into our new home and encountering a real problem with ants of all kinds. We're handy people and set up attack against them with many treatments you can find online. We were determined that we could get by without professional pest control. Still, they were on the outside and found ways to come INSIDE, no matter how many we killed. Signed up with Bulwark (pleased how affordable our service plan is) and Clark came out to do our initial cleanout. He was very thorough and explained the steps he would take, both inside and outside, to combat the ants, spiders and roaches. I talked to service manager on phone numerous times. My account and service with Bulwark is done. Just tKe me out of system or whatever. I was told my service was over and they were sorry. Had to call and cancel text message saying I have an appt. I have no appt I have nothing to do with you people. I shouldn't. Have to go through trouble of going on website myself when I was called so much and told it was done. No more service. I will never use you guys again so stop trying to send people over here. I went through a few companies before settling on Bulwark. It's important to find a good company, that has the right products to treat pests in your area. It's also important to find the right technician. Michael Thomas services our area and he has been great to work with. He doesn't breeze in and out like other tech's I've seen...he always stops to talk to you about what you've seen in between visits so that he can treat appropriately. He also follows up afterwards to tell you if he's seen anything in specific he had to treat (wasp nests, ant hills etc). For us, the problem was scorpions, and not only has he made them disappear, but the treatment isn't so toxic we had to be concerned with our infant in the home. Switch to Bulwark. read more

Amazing! They are very communicative and text you on the way. My guy David was so awesome! He was so nice and concerned about waking my roommate - then was able to get a hold of him, finished spraying, gave my dogs a treat, locked the gate, etc. I even asked him if he wants to be our maid! After I wrote the previous review, I received a call from Thomas at Bulwark's HQ in Arizona who was also frustrated that his team in the Austin area was unable to meet his company's high standards of customer satisfaction. Thomas offered to refund me a couple of visits where we were charged full price but even his technicians indicated they only treated half of the property and also said he'd consider a couple of free visits if we want to try Bulwark again. We received our refund check within an expedited time and while we are still frustrated that this is how it ended with Bulwark, I have to hand it to Thomas for the personal touch and the willingness to make things right. Thomas, I hope you've been able to whip up the Austin crew in shape to deliver the same standard of service that you personally provided me. read more

Bulwark did a great job treating our inside flea infestation in central Austin. I would certainly recommend them for this purpose. Our tenants with a dog and cat had left our 1/1 cottage house a NIGHTMARE. Within 30 seconds, 30+ fleas were on each leg. After several follow up visits, Bulwark had knocked it out. (Fleas take multiple visits always--their eggs can't be killed, only the hatchlings). Bulwark was the second company I called to handle this problem, and they seemed to do a better job. Their customer service was also helpful, and it was easy to start/stop service and schedule appointments with them. read more

We've been using Bulwark for the last 6 mos. With a quarterly visit from Tim N., we haven't seen any pest problem in our house. We used to see spiders and ants all over the house. I've been a bi-monthly customer for a while now, back to Bulwark after taking a break. They're always super friendly when initially signing up but once you're on the hook, it's all downhill. Their treatments are effective since I don't notice as many intruders. However, they will leave a treatment checklist which states that work had been done that clearly hadn't. Call to point out the unscrupulous nature and ask that the work actually be done and you can expect to be treated like a pain in the @$$ with zero apologies or explanations (by both the person who answers the phones and the 'manager' she immediately transferred me to). Emails aren't returned either. Basically, they'll charge you more than their competitors for less service and without the customer appreciation you might expect. Pass on these guys and take a more local approach. ***Edit*** Like others, 'Thomas' direct messaged me to 'make things right' when I posted my review in July. I didn't hear back and decided to cancel the service the next time I was due for treatment. Once that happened, 'Thomas' replied to my original post. We've been using Bulwarc for the past year and a half, and are happy with our choice among the many choices available in SW Austin area. The positives are the attentive service, prompt response, and most of all the technicians that come out -- extremely friendly and thorough (we have Bailey and often times ask for him specifically). Only gets 4 out of 5 stars as sometimes the scheduling can be a bit tricky. So I do recommend to make sure you get a firm confirmation just a couple of days before they come out. read more

I signed a contact with Bullwark about 3 months ago and they came out immediately. I noticed an immediate reduction in bugs and within a week all Roaches/spiders disappeared completely. I HATE roaches...even 1 is WAY too many! Three months later I noticed big roaches outside on my porch and carpenter ants on the side of my house. I called Bullwark and they sent Ernest out the very next day. Ernest was really quick to point out that I had let my leaves build up on the side of my house and that I should keep the area clean to prevent bugs from having shelter(very helpful advice). Ernest treated the outside of my house and then treated the inside of my house. He sprayed a little extra on the porch just to make sure he wiped out all of the roaches.
