I am not a fan of high pressure sales. It's an immediate turn off for me. The Bulwark rep I spoke with has definitely watched too many episodes of The Closer. He aggressively tried to convince me his company was the only company that provided the services I needed and was insistent about me signing up for service before I got off the phone. He also seemed to use a lot of bug scare tactics, mentioning the infestation I must already have and how quarterly service JUST ISN'T ENOUGH because by the time 90 days roll around and you start to see bugs, they've already INFILTRATED YOUR HOME again WHERE YOUR CHILDREN SLEEP! (He didn't actually say that last part about kids but I felt so bullied it seemed implied). He did say his company was the only place in town that would spray inside the walls, which is simply not true. I found that out after talking with another local, much friendlier company. Bottom line .. if you have to resort to scare tactics and high pressure to sell your product .. I'm taking my business somewhere else. read more

So, I am posting my updated review again ----------- Original Review: Cons: Ineffective visits. Incomplete work. Repeated visits and yet the wasp nests were not removed. Pros: They were willing to do a follow up visit. However the follow up visit was not thorough and it was also not effective. ** Knowing I was not pleased with the work and also showed pictures to them of the ineffectiveness of the work, they still charged the full price With a slew of other good ones I decided to go elsewhere. UPDATE: (9/10/18) Upon posting this review, I was contacted by their accounting office. They made it right. They took of the charge. So, what that tells me is they CARE about their reputation and making it right for their customers. While one can't get every customer right, a company who goes the extra mile to make it right should be given another chance. The professionalism shown bids me to take another glance. And yes, the face they took off the charge for a service customer was not happy with should assure the future customers that they will stand behind their work. We live in Austin and Sean Johnson has been our tech for over 2 years, and he is the best! He is a bard worker, he is timely, professional, and his work is effective. My favourite thing about Sean though is his willingness to go the extra mile whenever needed to solve a problem (ie handling high up wasps nest, helping in every way possible when we had a mouse problem, etc...). He is an excellent communicator and seems to have a passion for his job. His knowledge is extensive, and we feel very lucky to have Sean as our tech, and Bulwark as our pest control experts:) read more

We've been customers of Bulwark, since our neighborhood was built in 2013. A salesman, walking the neighborhood talked us into trying their service. It has been a continuing struggle to get the service we have been paying for. Most of the time the service tech spends 15 minutes spraying around the yard and then fills up their truck with our water (never asking) and leaves. The problems, ants, cicada killers, wasps and many other pests remain, after the "so-called" treatment. The high turnover at this company makes it difficult to work with the tech, since they change frequently. Don't ever agree to a service contract with a salesperson canvasing your neighborhood. You will be disappointed. We've cancelled our service contract with Bulwark and would not recommend anyone consider using them for pest control. If there was a zero (0) star rating that's what we would have given them. read more

Our service tech - Michael - is the BEST! He's knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and an expert in his field. Any time we have pests in our home, he quickly identifies them, tells us how to prevent them, and exterminates them quickly. I won't have any other company or service tech other than Michael. January 2018 update: They've stayed on task and have done a good job trying to get a handle on things. Total A for effort, but I'm waiting until the weather warms up to see if they can get that 5 stars that I really want to give! Update: Andddddd... They dropped the ball again. It's policy that if you call, they get someone out within 48 hours. This has yet to happen and I'm just tired of having to deal with them. They waved fees to make up for it, but then their billing department is calling about payment (which I shouldn't have been billed for in the first place) less than 3 days after me receiving a bill! Just not the well oiled machine I had hoped for. They have done everything they could to make it right and get back out to my place in a timely fashion. There have been a few miscommunications but overall they've really gone above and beyond to make sure my issues were resolved. I will try and update in January once I've had a few more visits and maybe then they will be at the 4 or 5 star mark! read more

My experience sounds like a lot of recent reviews. I had been a Bulwark customer for over two years and they were great but not anymore. It started going downhill when the spray just wasn't working as it used to. We kept getting bugs and would have them come back to respray quite often. Then they kept on having problems with the scheduling. When I talked with one manager he said they were getting new software so a lot of stuff had been getting lost. They had missed an appointment of mine where I called in to specifically have them come at a time when I would be home as I needed them to spray the interior. I left work early waited at home and they never showed. I had to call into the customer service to have it rescheduled, and the lady who was helping me had no empathy for what happened. She didn't even apologize for the missed schedule to where I then had to talk to the manager. I was so upset by this experience (and the fact that the spray wasn't working) that I decided to cancel my service. While I was on the phone trying to cancel, I was again met by rude customer service. The final straw for why I am writing this review is that I had cancelled my service two months ago and they still sent someone to my house to spray. Luckily I was home to tell the guy that I had cancelled. I thought that would be the end of it but I checked my mail and received a bill from them for the time the guy came out to my home! I had cancelled on the phone two months ago, I told the exterminator when he came to my home that I had cancelled and I still receive a bill. Now I have dial back in to their customer service to get this taken care of. I would not recommend this company for pest control. read more

I made an appointment with Bulwark but was able to have another exterminator come out earlier, so I cancelled with Bulwark 2 days before the appointment. A few days later they called to "handle" my account. I told them several times they had never provided any service for me and there was nothing to handle, but they kept repeating that I had an account they needed to handle until I finally wished them a good day and hung up. I have no idea how this company is at killing pests, but they have incredibly sleazy business practices. Avoid. read more

Had a window from 1-4 pm and the guy shows up at 4:05 says he rang the doorbell and knocked. Which my wife was sitting in the living room, he never even got out of the vehicle. They were good once....but not any longer After 11 years as a Bulwark customer, they started missing appointments. Usually, they will text as to when the next appointment will be and a 3 hour time frame. The sent a text for an August 2nd appointment and did not show. I called in, spoke with a supervisor and they re-scheduled for August 11th. They did not show this time either and I called in and spoke with a different Supervisor. They set me up for Thursday August 17th and never showed. I called the next day and spoke with a different Supervisor who said she would call me back that afternoon. Now 4 days later I have had ZERO response, ZERO service calls. It sounds like all the calls go into a service center for all 10 states so it is not a local service but they still claim to be "privately owned" Bottom line: they are having problems and creating problems for their customers. In writing to our Neighborhood HOA that has 37 homeowners, I found out that 2 other families have terminated Bulwark. My feeling is that they just don't care and the lack of response proves it. read more

My landlord uses this company for our unit. When we moved in, there was a pretty bad bug problem, as the previous tenant, who neglected ever spraying or cleaning inside had let things get beyond an "easily" manageable level. My first month here, Bulwark was at my unit once a week. Every time I contacted them to say I was still seeing roaches, they'd have someone out within 3 days. Each technician effectively communicated with me as to what I can expect with German roaches, and what areas to specifically keep an eye on. They always follow up and are very consistent. Unfortunately, the problem is bad enough that I do need them out regularly, but the improvement I've seen could just about make me cry. The regular monthly visits will likely be enough. I am no longer scared to open cabinets or walk barefoot in my house. I am no longer wiping up bug droppings and shed off of my counters daily or out of my pantry. I know the problem is not fully resolved, as these things take time and consistency, but I am so impressed with the attentiveness of Bulwark and their commitment to addressing the issue. If it weren't for them, I'd probably be crying on the floor every day and going to HEB or logging on Amazon to spend too much on roach bait. Thank you!!! read more

There's that same rehearsed spiel you hear on every phone conversation with them - they scare and bully you into repetitive service. But don't just take it from me, it doesn't take long to look at a few more negative reviews on here to understand the unruly persistence of their 'business model'. I use the car analogy not to talk about the oil change (duh, everyone needs one thanks for the reminder) it's the fact that they often harass you and scare you to get money out of you, adding on additional problems beyond just the oil change. However, I realize now the flaw in my analogy, because everyone with a car needs an oil change but not everyone with a house necessarily needs monthly exterminator service. (PS - they claim to have one-time service but good luck getting out of there without them fully scamming you into more without listening to your desires). Some problems with their 'continuous service' model - it seems unlikely that every home EVER has a pest problem and that problem will ALWAYS continue to get WORSE if Bullwark doesn't come spray your lawn for 5 minutes once a month. But what frustrates me most - (unaddressed by our friends in customer service responding to reviews) - they don't take into consideration your personal problem, all they care about is hooking you on the monthly spray. The same spray. Every time. No matter what your personal unique pest problem may be. You aren't a customer (for example - a mom in a one story home who has had a history of ants, or a college student in an apartment who has spotted two roaches), you are a numbered cell in excel sheet - name, address, when to service (aka when to mediocrely spray their nonspecific crap) and most importantly to them - bank info and billing! My best friend's father is an exterminator in another city. I expressed my frustration to him and he validated my theories. He told me pest control shouldn't be this way. They should listen to your concerns, which bullwark did not at ALL for me - dealing with rare bugs that might not respond to their one-size fits all service. And they should work with you to create the best plan for your personal situation and home (be it follow ups if necessary, but perhaps tracking the progress?? crazy concept). read more

I bought my dream house and moved out to the hill country (Dripping Springs) about 5 weeks ago. I thought it was gonna be all "Sound of Music" like with deer and bunnies frolicking... I got that, with a healthy dose of scorpions, ticks (brown and gross bloated Lima bean looking ticks), wasps, and even a black widow. Sweet Jesus my immediate thought was "we must burn the house down and move." Bulwark came super recommended on my neighborhood Nextdoor app, and we called and were happy to hear they could be out in a few days. Our technician was Jeff, who was super awesome, very knowledgeable about all sorts of critters, and generally seemed to care that he treated every nook and crannie (Even the attic and he removed the switch plates and got 'em good). He promised to come back and retreat if we saw any of our friends again. Super duper nice guy. We are on the quarterly plan, which was far less than Terminix who we had in South Austin, and didn't even cover ticks. read more

I found Bulwark on Thumbtack around 9pm on a Sunday night. Monday morning I call and plead my case for speedy service. Showing complete empathy for our situation I'm told that a technician can be there between 12:30 and 2:00 pm. Around 1pm Mr. Lightsey knocks on my door, tool bag in hand. We talk for about 10 minutes. (I have lots of questions) He explains everything that he will do and spends the next hour plus servicing our house inside and out. I was surprised how thorough his procedure was. Mr. Lightsey was professional, informative and very patient with all of my questions.
