I don't often yelp review but wanted to share the great experience. We had my sons 7th birthday here yesterday. I was a little nervous how it would work . We bought the $35 a child package which let them spend up to $25.50 for the animal , any outfit and a backpack. Our Build a bear party coordinator Monika assured me she had it under control and I could just relax and enjoy the party. She was amazing!!! Not a single objection when she put the rules out to the kids and the kids had soooo much fun!!! So impressed I would highly recommend the store and especially the parties here. Super big thanks to monika she made it so great. Tip for all of you that cringe at the expense. This was much cheaper than our previous years hosting pump it up parties or Boomers etc. also you can buy discount gift cards at Costco and use them to pay for the party. We got $100 packs for just $70 at Costco which means the party cost us $90 less so we hosted 9 kids for under $300 out of pocket. They don't do food in the store but we went a couple stores down to berry delicious frozen yogurt where we carried the build a bear theme in with build your yogurt. It's been over 12 years since I stepped foot into the SF Build A Bear where my best friend was made and had for awhile been my Yelp profile pic so coincidentally having my 300th review be a Build A Bear is most fitting. Sadly the SF store has closed since so I have been following them around the Bay Area like a true fan from Walnut Creek, to San Jose, and now Pleasanton usually with my bear in tow, for a cubby spa day, a bear reunion, many outfits that it's obvious she's a girl, wigs, bedding and furton, and 2, yes two cars - 6 year old red and recently acquired pink. Although I didn't find anything new yesterday that I wanted, just being at the store always makes me smile seeing the cute bears, outfits, and its friendly employees. read more

I'd never been to one but I guess there's a first time for all sorts of things when your girlfriend wants to do something and will be studying abroad for a few months. I'd always been told build-a-bear was expensive, so I was expecting to be offended by the cost of things here, but knew it was just something that had to happen. I was actually rather pleasantly surprised. Our custom "stuffed with love" bears, each complete with a soft t-shirt, only ran $21.80 each. Not bad for a sort of special little thing. The employees here are nice but not ultra-helpful. They seem to sort of just go through the motions (can you blame them?). I imagine if you fill bears with cotton and give cloth hearts a heartbeat all day long you might eventually get a little sick of it. This is such a great Build-A-Bear location! They always have the nicest staff, for one. You'd think all stores/companies focused toward children would have nice staff but you would be wrong. The selection of animals and accessories here really cannot be beat. My daughter has 12 BABs, 9 of which have been purchased at this location. Clearly, we have had great experiences or we wouldn't keep going back. read more

They're a fun bunch. Most recently was just in to fluff-n-stuff a My Little Pony plush that the tot received for Christmas (limited edition) but hadn't earned the full treat yet. I took my girl scout troop for a thin mint bear party and it turned into an adventure thanks to a power outage at the mall. Kyra was absolutely amazing with the girls and turned it into a "campfire" around the flashlight on her phone and she guided the girls what could have been a scary situation for them. Luckily they had already built their bears and were able to go home with their new pals. Monica was also great in working out how to handle settling up on the bill and how to get a wheel chair out of the mall without power. If you've never been to a BAB workshop before, in a nutshell, you're basically just watching them stuff your stuffed animal while you get to the fluffiness of it by controlling the amount of cotton that it gets stuffed with. How do you control it? You get to step on the little lever that releases the cotton. You want sound? You want scent? Tell them there before they sow it up and you move on to buying clothes, accessories, and creating the birth certificate. It's a nice one time experience. Here's a tip: buy the gift cards at Costco, go to the BAB website and look for deals. Have it delivered to you. Then take it to the store to stuff. You'll save much more rather than buying everything at the store. read more

We brought our daughter here to build a bear as part of her Christmas gift. She absolutely loved the experience. She picked a soft bunny and named it "bear bear". From start to finish there was a smile on her face. its so cute, she drags "bear bear" by the floppy ears around the house. read more

I had the worst experience at this build a bear I have ever had before. We go in it's pretty busy which is understandable BUT the lack of customer service I seen in this store was very disappointing. My kids had their animals filled. Before they even got to put the hearts in the man started to sew them up. He had to cut them back open to put the hearts in. Then returned to counter to hand sew them both shut after. It took quite a bit of time to sew and a long line formed behind us. They were finally done and we decided to just pay and leave instead do the whole bath and clothe them. They were understaffed and did not have proper training on how to sew them shut. We made it to the car to find out one of them had already opened up. I went back to the store and waited in the same long line to get it sewn again. As I waited I watched the gentleman at the register ask a customer if they needed a bag and in the middle another lady who worked there who was leaving walked up and asked him a question he opened the bag put the bag ON TOP of the customers items they purchased and then walked away without acknowledging the customer or bagging the purchased items at all. We made it all the home and after a few mins of taking their items out of the boxes the other one is now open. I have never had this happen in the years we've been taking our kids. We have at least 16 different ones that haven't opened up that are at least 4 years old. read more

I was there 2 weeks ago celebrating my daughter's 4th birthday:) There were about 8 kids, the gal who helped the kids make their bears was really nice, the kids were excited to take their new pal home with a house and birth certificate after naming it. This store is AWESOME! The staff is always, always friendly, inviting and engaging. They make each visit a memorable one, and I always leave happy, if not happier than when I came in. They're a good reason about why I come back! They all seem to be enjoying themselves and their job, which is awesome. I live about an hour away and have made trips specifically to visit Build-A-Bear, and every time it has been worth it. They're always changing up their selection which is fun and keeps me coming back. They have the hit trends in, such as Star Wars, Frozen, My Little Pony, and Care Bears to name a few. One of my favorite things about Build-A-Bear itself is how wide of a selection they have! They have wheelchairs and casts for the bears, and they also have an army selection to choose from! There really is something for everyone there. This store definitely deserves a 5 star rating! :) read more

The two staff members who were working when I went in were super friendly and helpful! We had no problems with anything while there. A little disappointed. Every year I come here and buy my nieces stuffed animals and they love it. I buy the floor models so I don't give them an unfilled stuffed animal for christmas. Brought 2 of them up to the counter and they would not allow me to purchase them. They said I have to fill them myself in order to get one. But for the past 4-5 years I've came every christmas season and bought them? Extremely disappointing. Won't be coming back now. read more

My first interaction with this store was over the phone and they were very helpful in helping me find the bear I was looking for, Ben was especially patient and helpful. Once I entered the store the employees were all very helpful in alerting me of sales and deals, and even searching for a bear in the back that I asked for. They did alert me of extras available for the bears I was purchasing however they were not repetitive or pushy about it. Which as a consumer I greatly appreciate! The interaction of stuffing the bears was also really enjoyable I would definitely recommend coming here if you have small children the employees will truly make the moment feel magical. read more

Fun, fun, fun... if only I like stuff animals I would go for that Hello Kitty one. My son got a gift card from my co-worker and we headed down to Stoneridge to use it up. We were first timers and the staff made us feel right at home. My son decided on Ralph from TMNT and he loves it! The sound effects are super funny and all the accessories are cute. Luckily, the turtles didn't have too many options as far as accessories... otherwise that trip to BAB would have been a pricey one. This place was in the mall, located by the Apple Store, but closed it's doors and was replaced by the LEGO store. It has since re-opened on the other end of the mall, first floor, in what I think was the former locate of the DVD/music store, whose name I've since forgotten. I looked around the place and am trying to drum up the nerve to buy something. I think it's a novel idea, but I still find it on the pricy side for me. Worst experience in my life !!! I brought my two daughters here for the first time and one of the employees said in the red bin animals are 2 for $25 I thought cool good deal let's do it ! My girls chose stiffed washed made broth certificates when we paid total was $65 !! Turns out the red bin was mixed with other animals I understand it's a kid store and things happen but when my daughter chose ANOTHER animal what happen ??? Yes it was mixed in the red bin so she had to choose ANOTHER animal what's worst the manager was rude !! read more

I had a birthday party here for my twins 2 weeks ago, and this place exceeded my expectations! The BAB staff were so amazing! I need to give a shout out to Ms. Soleil, who was our party leader. She kept a group of 5 year olds fully engaged and was able to make their selected stuffed animals in about an hour! Ms. Soleil was so AWESOME with her interaction with the party guests and making my birthday girls feel special. I've gotten so many compliments on how fun this party was. Today my club from Dublin High School and I visited this establishment to make bears to donate to the children of the Calico Center. It's been more than 10 years since I have gone to this place and I walked in with the same butterflies I did as a 2nd grader. To my surprise, the process of making the bears were still the same; but with added touches that made the experience more interactive and special. My friends were bursting with excitement and us being a group of juniors, it was nice seeing them so relaxed, stress free, youthful, and happy. Along with that, I really have to point out how outstanding the staff is. I believe the manager, Cara, helped us and she was so kind, upbeat, genuine, and down to earth. She really took care of us and didn't let us pay the extra 4 dollars that went over the gift card we used to purchase everything. On top of that, she gave us several coupons to use for our next visit. I just really felt compelled to write this review because it really deserves the recognition. I hope they know how happy and youthful my friends and I felt after this experience despite us being teenagers.-something that we don't get to feel everyday in our lives. read more

so i went to build a bear over the weekend. for my childs birthday, the space is a bit tight but its currently the holiday season( people all over the place. I would go back after the holidays to see if its just as crowded. so the customer service was excellent had help with options for the bear and all . so my only concern was the small space. read more

I usually find it annoying shopping for my niece as she is pretty indecisive, but the staff there was very helpful and we were able to find a gift for her pretty quickly. My niece loved the associates izzy as she was very nice and had no trouble making her laugh most of our time there especially during the heart ceremony, i can easily say she was the best part of my experience there and i know my niece feels the same.......also she was pretty hot. read more

Four stars because it would help if it was a little more structured. We were kinda all over the place. The place is really small, but the concept is fun. We started at the beginning of the line where the kids choose their favorite bear, plenty of options avaliable, then on down the line, for a heart, music and stuffing. Music cost I think $6 extra. Then you name your bear and print out a birth certificate. After that things got a little crazy, it was time to dress the bear. The girls had so much to choose from, clothes, shoes, purses, BEDS, CARS like everything you could possiby imagine and of course they wanted everything. I end up spending close to $150. I would go back if they asked, they seemed to really like it, which is a good thing, but it wouldnt be MY first choice for fun. read more

Loved it! Went here with my kids for a fundraiser through the Oakland zoo. They got to pick out their own zoo animal and take em home. They loved naming, stuffing & bathing them. What an amazing experience!!! Not only were the staff all really sweet, but they also were very helpful during, our time in and out the store. Let me say that Alexis the manager was super sweet and I want to personally thank her for making our Build-A-Bear experience a dream come true for our party of seven. We were also really impressed with Jamye our host for the party and she was so helpful to all the kids. My daughter especially liked how they had the heart ceremony and blessed her bear with life. It was the cutest thing I ever seen. Also I am horrible with names but there is this one sweet girl who looks like that singer Keisha Cole with Afro puffs and much prettier :) she was so cool when it came to my other child who was not so happy about being at his sister's party lol special thanks to her too ;) And finally I remember one more person, her name is either Page or Colleen I think, she counted by hand for me my bill, to ensure that I felt comfortable with my pricing while our guests were selecting their bears and other items, which to me was above and beyond the call of her duties. With that being said I really loved this place and definitely will recommend them to everyone. Great prices and a wonderful staff. smaller than what the walnut creek store use to be. sad that the walnut creek store is gone. checked out this build a bear, or TRIED to check this store out and upon walkin in after the frst few steps, the smell of womens bathroom permeated the store. maybe i went in the store while it was crowded but when is that store never crowded. just flat and disappointing. read more
