On one of my regularly scheduled trips to Austin, we always pass through Dripping Springs and decided to stop here and have some authentic Argentine empanadas. My husband had eaten here before, but just tried the empanadas so we decided to come in and have lunch and try some of the other items on the menu. We both had one of the original beef empanadas, and he also ordered the chicken. They are served with a homemade chimichurri sauce, which is absolutely amazing! The empanadas are delicious, they are so fresh, so flavorful, definitely worth the drive. They do serve them individually for $6.50 each which I find a bit high, I wish they had a three pack or a six pack you could get at a bit of a reduced price because it feels crazy spending $13 on two empanadas with nothing else. We also ordered some of the sandwiches that they are known for and have won awards for. My husband went with the beef milanesa which is lightly breaded and served on their toasted bread, which again is the most amazing bread ever! I got the Lomito which is a slow cooked beef steak, simply served with chimichurri sauce on the toasted bread. I can't lie, I could see why it won an award. It was so good, tender, juicy, all of it! I got the half sandwich which came with fries and was $18. I wish I would've just spent a few extra dollars for the whole sandwich. The staff is really friendly and the restaurant is set up with some big green TVs by the bar as well as an outdoor dining area. Definitely massive flavor packed food you must try! read more

Went on a Tuesday night, after the ice skating rink. Finally decided to give this place a try. It's not bad but not wow either. Having passed this place more than a couple times, there's usually more people on the patio outside if it's bearable temps. Parking is never a problem here. They advertise happy hours but don't have the HH pinned outside. Glad to finally share here, and honestly not that much savings from regular menu. Service was great though. Seems like family run restaurant and server was attentive. The ambiance and decor feels a little dated, but maybe to some a bit of a nostalgic feel. Bar area has two big screens. Food wise is why it's mid...nothing was off but nothing was oooohh this is Argentinian food I can't get elsewhere. Maybe I'll give it another try during HH to try their sandwiches. read more

We rec dined at Buenos Aires Café on a Friday evening after a business meeting ran into the early evening. We had a rather large group, with a prior reservation, and we added a couple of tables to that. The restaurant easily accommodated the additional numbers. Service was great, very attentive, but not hovering. From initial glasses of ice water to final payment of the bill, everything was smooth and efficient! The restaurant has an extensive menu covering a wide variety of foods, from appetizers, soups, salads, beef, chicken, seafood, all presented with a South American flair. With such a variety available, we had a bit of a time trying to narrow it down. we settled on a split baby spinach salad as an appetizer, it was terrific. Super fresh spinach, and ample portions of all the veggies, nuts, and cheese, and a delightfully light dressing. Our shared entrées included the Canelones Caseros, two spinach-filled crêpes, wrapped and topped with a delicious vegetable sauce, marinara, and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. The dish was outstanding! Our other shared entree was the Gnocchi Quartet, which consisted of four different kinds of deliciously prepared gnocchi, blended in a medley of fresh vegetables, and a light cream sauce... also a winner! The restaurant has a nice list of premium cocktails, and other libations, as well as a decent wine list. The wine list has a nice variety from around the world, but is rather limited, and that is just an observation not a complaint! We selected a very nice Pinot Grigio from the Torresello winery in Italy. It was served at the perfect temperature, iced in a bucket, and went exceedingly well with the meal we had selected. Met some longtime friends here this past weekend for brunch. Everyone liked what they got. I'm trying to eat healthier since I eat out a lot so the mixed green salad with anchovies was perfect for me. My daughter got their beef sandwich with the side salad. Others ate the melted cheese with bread, pumpkin gnocchi, sausage sandwich, and an Argentinian shepherd's pie equivalent dish. Our server was great and gave us solid recommendations! I had a few bites of the spinach canneloni ($23) with Shrimp addition ($17) and they were divine. Gnocchi ($22) with Chicken ($10 addition) was also great, marinara was light and sweet. Also had some of the filet mignon ($38 for 8 oz) and mashed potatoes ($8) - amazing. The prices are HIGH for the portions / quality. ESPECIALLY if you add a protein. The food was amazing, we ordered a few things I included images for as well as the empanada "spicy carne" which consists of Olives, eggs and some peppers- it was sweet and and lightly spicy! We loved it. Everything was an experience. Jeff was our server and he was such a polite host, and he explained all the ingredients very well so nothing would catch us off guard. Located inside galleria, with indoor and outdoor seating My husband and I went here for dinner recently and we enjoyed our meal. Not pictured is his churrasco entree. It was a big meal for two since we both ordered an entree. Honestly we could've shared 1 entree from the grill. I liked the beef tenderloin from the mix the most. The mashed potato side is the move... don't skip it! I really enjoyed the wine flight so I could have a different taste with each protein option. They service was great! Happy hours Include Friday and sat (3-6) which is a rare find so we always come here. Great wines and wine flights too. I had their old fashioned here and it was well done and balanced. We love sitting on the patio here but I do have two suggestions: 1. Cushions on the metal chairs 2. Music would really make the ambiance outside. I was a little less enamored of Buenos Aires Cafe than other reviewers. The night we visited we were admittedly on a tight schedule. The hostess we encountered offered confusing seating options to us, which ultimately came down to seating at a table outside in the cold for dinner or waiting outside in the cold for an inside table for dinner. We chose the latter. When we came inside, we were trying to eat healthy and order salads. We asked our waitress about the salad portions for the small vs. the large salad. While I can't be certain it was an intentional upsell, we were advised to choose the larger salad as a dinner portion. It made sense until we saw a nearby table being served and asked their waitress which size that salad was. She said it was the small, but way more than enough for a reasonable dinner portion. Luckily, we were able to find our waitress and change our order before it was too late. We really didn't exploit their Argentinian menu that night, but I'm somewhat ambivalent about returning. While I'd have no reservations about their food offerings, I'd be more than a little concerned that we might not get clear advice on the menu items and reasonable portion sizes. It's always great to get more food than you bargained for--until you have to make peace with the scale the next morning. read more

This was our second visit to this location and we don't mind driving 45 minutes as the food is fantastic and it brings back fond memories of my visits to Buenos Aires. I made reservations to reserve a booth for our special dinner and communicated to the GM that this was going to be a special celebratory night for us. Yes, our booth was reserved and awaiting us. We started with cocktails and their Antonelli's cheese plate. The presentation was fine with a nice blend of mild and sharp cheeses. Our entrees were steak with their chimichurri sauce and I had their special, paella. Plus 1's steak was cooked perfectly and my paella was fabulous with the right balance of spices, seafood, and meat. We split our dessert, chocolate cheesecake. Why not 5 stars? Well, there is a difference between meeting customer expectations and exceeding them. On this visit, they barely met my expectations. For example, a runner brought our cheese plate and did not identify the cheese. It was easy to figure out but I would expect the server to spend the extra 20 seconds and ID the cheeses. Also, the hostess and server never acknowledged that we were celebrating that night. Before you call me a snowflake think about the times the hostess and or server acknowledged that you were celebrating a special occasion. That's personalizing the service and exceeding expectations. To be fair and balanced our primary server was fine. Lastly, their wine is terribly overpriced. The place was great! Location is good and plenty of parking nearby. Service was great and pretty fast. Pros- starters were great. We had enpenadas. Beef ones were the best! Cons - 1(could be pros) great collection of Malbecs but not others 2. Steak was average, mussels could have done with more garlic and gnocchi - the chicken was way too dry. Leeches cake was good though a bit small :( The waitress who served was great and we had a great experience. The high table seats were super comfy. Ovverall a great place to stop by! read more

Came to eat here with my boyfriend for his birthday with my and parents in law. Made a reservation a week and half in advance. To plan. I did buy a cake for the occasion, from a bakery. Since I did not have all the listed ingredients of what was in the cake I was not allowed to bring it. Due to being a health violation. Which is fine, but it should be listed somewhere so guests know. The man who helped me was very rude. The moment we walked in, the hostess immediately told us to make sure we didn't park in the back because we were going to be towed. Which I completely understand, but she was absolutely rude about it and it was the first thing she said. No greeting or anything. Already my first impressions were offputting. The server was just as bad. He was not helpful in any of our questions we were answering. Or he acted like we were on his time. Not to mention I always had to ask for water and drink refills. We were celebrating and had to move all the dishes out of the way or give it to him. And generically I wouldn't mind if he was busy, but the restaurant only had a couple other tables and one big party. Even if they were short staffed, there is no explanation for the lack of service and treatment. It was like we weren't worth the time. Despite the horrible experience, the food does taste delicious! And it's a cute little café ambience. The staff in person, the hostess, man on the phone, made it so that I wish that I didn't come. I did ask since it was a special occasion if something could be done. And that was the only thing that was nice that the server did. But besides that everything was a 15 to 20 minute wait. Sunday night--this is the night to show up in person. The side patio outside is beautiful. The bldg. has slices of limestone, wood windows, voncrete, murals...honestly--the side of the bldg. is a work of art with sense--tasteful....not whacked. Empanadas were on point, the mojitos, fabulous, the malbec suggested was nice, and my milenesa was fabulous. Honestly, I've been eyeing this patio for 10 years...but it's always packed and I'm dumb for planning in advance...we got in today. Oh Carly, your name pops up quite often on negative Yelp reviews, and I'm here to add to the collection. It's been many years since I've been motivated to write a review, but last night's dining experience needs to be heard. My 3 year old son has severe food allergies to dairy, egg, and peanut. From the get-go, our waitress Carly, was put off with the idea that she may need to work a little harder and go find answers to our ingredient questions. When we asked for Carly to check on 3 dishes for these allergens, instead of a simple "I'm not sure but let me go check with the kitchen/manager" we got lots of "I don't THINK it does." This is not a dietary choice, this is a severe life threatening matter, so it needs to be a definitive yes or no answer. She was not reassuring when it came to double checking the dishes for us and most places write down the food allergies on the ticket to make sure the kitchen staff knows to switch out gloves or trade out cutting boards, she did not write down our food allergies on the ticket at all. Carly simply does not like her job and will 100% make it known to you as the customer. She made us feel as though we were an inconvenience to her and we shouldn't be asking any questions about our food. Her responses and facial expressions completely ruined our dining experience. The food itself was also tasteless- the Milanesa was flattened down and crispy like a chip and the kids spaghetti tasted like watered down tomato puree. If you want delicious quality food and a pleasant dining experience, please look elsewhere. With everyone being very selective and cautious about where they choose to dine out due to COVID, Buenos Aires Cafe is definitely not worth your risk to venture out into public. My first (and last) time at this restaurant and it was a terrible experience from start to finish. We dined with our friends who have a son with severe food allergies which was clearly communicated to our server. The moment we started asking our server, Carly, questions about dish ingredients her attitude/responses showed just how poorly our dinner service was going to be. She didn't seem confident in her responses to the food allergies and seemed annoyed that she had to go ask her manager/owner to confirm. Food allergies is not something that ANY restaurant should take lightly. This is not simply a my stomach will hurt if I have dairy in my meal. This is a I will end up in the hospital if you don't know what ingredients are in YOUR menu items. The owner needs to retrain their employees as waitstaff like that are a walking liability. After we received our food, we had to flag down our server to get silverware, napkins, and plates. The sauces were bland, the gnocchi was over cooked, and the mussel sauce had too much lemon in it. I've never left uneaten food behind before because I hate wasting food but my dish stayed at the restaurant. If you have any kind of food allergy or dietary restriction I would not recommend coming here because they'll treat you like you're an inconvenience to them. In fact, don't come here at all if you want quality food and decent service. I'm honestly shocked that this establishment is still open. read more

My boyfriend is Argentinian and I'm Colombian so we've had our fair share of empanadas. There's were sub-par at best. So greasy and chimichurri was so bad and for over $5 each was not worth the money. Alfajores seemed old. Overall we're not going to come back just bc of the quality of Argentine food we are used to.
