Breadsticks
Sarah M.

We wanted to find a cute Italian place to eat before we saw the sunset. This place was decent. We sat next to the doors so every time the door opened there was a risk of flies. The breadsticks tasted good. I could tell they were homemade but it would have been nice if they were crispier. We ordered the margherita pizza and chicken Arrabbiata pasta. The pizza was alright. It wasn't terrible but it was missing that flavor I look for in a margherita pizza. I can't realize describe it. The chicken arrabbiata was okay as well. I like my noodles more adente and the chicken tasted a little overcooked. The staff were super friendly, but definitely not a place to hang out after you finish eating. They get busy and need every table.

Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo

Cute little family owned Italian restaurant. We missed the owners, but I hear that their presence at the restaurant is what cultivates that cozy family feel. Even though they weren't there the food was excellent and the vibes were still a cozy kind of casual. Great selection of items on the menu, full bar and very serve delicious garlic knots complimentary when seated. Parking is plentiful (a nice welcome in Austin!) as they have a parking lot.

Cannoli, Tiramisu, Italian Cream Cake

A great down home Italian feel, not pretentious at all. And yes, Giovanni and his family are actually there at the restaurant. The service was fast and super friendly. Our server even offered to put some bolognese on the side of the chicken parm so we could try it. I had the rib-eye Marsala. The sauce was delicious and the pasta was cooked perfectly Al Dente. The steak itself was just okay, a bit over cooked. Desserts we're 10/10 - cannoli, Italian cream cake, and tiramisu. Is it the best Italian that I've ever had, no. Is it good quality for the price, yes. Definitely worth trying and getting out of the city.

Price - $10-15 for a plate of noodles without any protein and veggies. So it can easily add up to make your plate an extra $5-$10 if you add anything to it. 3. Ambiance - this is a bar and restaurant setting. Great for hang outs with friends and family. Dress code is casual. 4. Food - I had their CARBONARA PASTA and CHICKEN ARROSTO. With a side of salad and Garlic bread. Everything was good and tasty. The noodles were fresh, thick, and different. However, it was super salty. Did I pick the wrong sauce perhaps or was the chef a bit heavy handed on the salt? 5. Cleanliness - Dining area was outdoors in the back on a cold day. Good thing they had a heating lamp near by. They managed their tables well. No dirty plates lingering around. Restrooms were not bad either. Small, but clean. SUMMARY It's great that they make fresh noodles, but $20+ for a plate of noodles is a bit much. Overly paying for salty food, I rather go to a chain Italian restaurant. Not worth the hype in my opinion.

An Incredible First Visit to Carmela's Italian Restaurant!…read moreFrom the moment I arrived at Carmela's, I knew I had found something special. I ordered the Sunset drink, a fresh Greek salad with warm bread and olive oil, and the fettuccine with shrimp -- and every single bite was absolutely incredible. The Greek salad was crisp and flavorful, the bread and olive oil were the perfect start to the meal, and the shrimp fettuccine was cooked to perfection. Everything tasted fresh, authentic, and made with care. I truly couldn't have been happier with my choices. I sat outside enjoying the beautiful weather, and it was such a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was genuinely kind and welcoming, and you could see happy regulars coming and going -- which always says a lot about a restaurant. It felt warm, friendly, and inviting. When I got home, I was still talking about how thrilled I was that I decided to try Carmela's for the very first time. This is an authentic, honest 5-star review -- and I absolutely will be back. I may even become a regular! If you're looking for delicious, authentic Italian food and wonderful service, Carmela's is the place to go.

The service was good & our server was attentive & personable. Next date night will be spent here.

Never heard of this place but got a coupon in the mail for a buy one lunch, get a free lunch…read more Decided to try it as I'm always looking for decent Italian food. As it turns out the coupon was only good during the week and it was Saturday. No big deal. I ordered a Meatball Sandwich, my friend an Italian Sandwich (after asking our excellent young waitress about it). She brought out two very tasty types of bread with olive oil for dipping. The sandwiches came with Garlic Fries. The Fries were delicious but unfortunately mine were lukewarm. I certainly could have asked for a fresh portion, but was hungry enough not to bother. That's the reason my rating wasn't 5 Star. Because the restaurant was pretty empty on this Saturday afternoon, I feel the Chef shouldn't have sent out fries that weren't piping hot. The Meatball Sandwich however was marvelous. Freshly made, tasty meatballs with sauce and cheese on their focaccia bread was a real treat. I took half home and ate the rest for dinner. All in all, I'd come back here again as the food was excellent as well as the service.

Must serve tons of spaghetti and meat sauce for the kids. But we're not here for the early bird family special. This is big time birthday celebration for the patriarch of this gang of Bostonians out for some wicked Italian food. We started with the beautiful bread basket nice fresh slices with some soft focaccia. The Calamari was standard some crispy tentacles with tough chewy meat. Meatball appetizers were big and beautifully blended globs of ground beef and sausage served with sauce. Now the it's Primo time. The Molto Grande Patti. Pork Chops with Giardiniera . Somebody forgot to make golden brown cutlets so they served an overcooked slab of pork chop underneath an assortment of pickled vegetables over a bed of pasta in red sauce. The only taste was pickled everything. Back to the kitchen and off the table. Veal Piccata consisted of two slices of meat, non tenderized, non dredged in flour and non pan seared. Served atop linguini swimming in a sea of lemon sauce and capers. What a wonderful disaster this was. Then the Lasagna served in casserole. If the traditional Lasagna is too time consuming to make then don't fake it with a casserole that the old Irish Lady makes. Good lasagna is made with layers of pasta, rich sauce, gooey cheese made with ricotta, mozzarella and parmigiano cheeses and loads of ground beef and sausage. Come on that's too easy to mess up with this awful thing you put in front of me. Ok the Penne was cooked to perfection. The sauce with green floating in it tasted good once I got past the floating algae. Sorry Folks but Cousin Louie's is best left for the kids spaghetti feast. No place for grown ups to dine.

For most pasta dishes, I'd hit Mandola's in Austin. Save about $10 an entree and some gas money. A few weeks ago I didn't want to venture too far off the ranch. Wife and I ended up at Lisina on Saturday. Calamari to start was crisp and not chewy. Caesar salad followed and was a nice example of the dish. Lisina is also a little skimpy on offering bread refills. We finished with drinks and the panna cotta. Just over $100 for this experience. WELL, the next day I needed to take mom out for her anniversary. Dad has long passed but I always try to do something special. Sunday highlights forthcoming. This time with mom and Rooster along we started with the carpaccio. The presentation really wowed because it looks like red plate until you realize all that color is shaved tenderloin. White plate underneath! The greens, parmesan, and aioli was one of the best I've had. Mom went for the gnocchi; Rooster goes for the Mezzaluna ravioli. This is now Rooster's fave restaurant. I went back to the appetizers section and selected the crab cake. Zero complaints on these dishes. Don't forget mom's wine. Gelato and cake to finish the meal. I think I've dined here once since my 2009 review. Yup, steak pics still accounted for on Yelp. Trattoria Lisina is still going strong in Driftwood. Expect $$$$, this meal was almost $300. Good food ain't cheap folks.
