We went here for the first time and it was amazing it has the ambience of an expensive Italian restaurant but great prices and service of a high class restaurant. I had spaghetti with meat sauce and it had a flavor that was wonderful. My wife had fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which was great. We shared a Caesar salad that was very crispy and fresh. We recently visited on a Tuesday night for dinner with friends. They have a prize wheel on Tuesdays, and our table won $1 off the bill. I initially tried booking through OpenTable, where their website directs you, but the reservation required a $50 deposit. We decided to take our chances and arrived around 7:15 p.m. Only three tables were occupied, including ours, so getting seated wasn't an issue. The restaurant is in a strip mall with a huge neon OPEN sign. Our waiter, Blaine, appeared to be handling every table. As far as I could tell, it was just him and the cook that evening. He was funny and welcoming, and he kindly let us sit and chat over coffee while he closed up. We ordered two salads to share but never received individual plates, so we ate directly from the serving plates. Everyone ordered pasta, and everyone enjoyed their entrée except me. My shrimp scampi had a much stronger lemon flavor than I expected and was too tart for my taste. My husband thought the lasagna was good, though not exceptional. My friend enjoyed the gluten-free penne but wished there were more gluten-free options. Overall, it was a nice, quiet evening out with friends. We've stayed here before and had such a great experience that we were excited to come back -- especially since this time we brought a friend who had never been. Unfortunately, our experience this time didn't quite live up to the first. We arrived around 4:00 PM and were told the dinner menu didn't start until 5:00 PM, which was completely fine. We decided to order appetizers/salads from the lunch menu instead and wait until 5 to order our meals. All three of us ordered the Cleopatra salad, which was listed at $16 on the lunch menu. We expected it to either be really good or at least a substantial portion for that price. Unfortunately, we all found it overly sweet from the combination of the honey dressing, candied pecans, and cranberries, and there was very little feta. To make matters worse, we later noticed that we were charged $18 per salad, the dinner price, even though we ordered them around 4:20 PM. Paying $54 for three small, appetizer-sized salads with very few toppings was extremely disappointing. We were also told they were out of sangria because they had sold out the night before and hadn't had time to make more. It was a Saturday, so that was another disappointment, especially because we had really enjoyed the sangria during our previous visit. The biggest disappointment, however, was the shrimp scampi. Our waiter was very kind and actually recommended it, so I was looking forward to trying it. I almost never send food back to the kitchen, but this was one of those occasions. The shrimp were plain and steamed with no seasoning, and the pasta appeared to have no sauce or flavor. When I moved the pasta aside, there was a watery yellow liquid at the bottom that tasted very bland. For $29, I expected much more, and this is an Italian place after all. I ended up ordering the Fettuccine Giulio Cesare instead, which was much better and had considerably more flavor. That said, the lasagna and cheesecake are definitely the way to go here -- both were delicious. I just wish the overall menu were more consistent. When prices are on the higher end, you expect the quality and execution of the dishes to be consistent as well. It's frustrating to have some dishes that are absolutely delicious while others feel underwhelming or simply not worth the price. We really wanted to love our return visit as much as the first, so it was disappointing to leave feeling this way. We started with the cheesy garlic bread appetizer, and I was immediately disappointed. It looked more like something I would have gotten in a high school cafeteria lunch line than at an Italian restaurant. It barely had any garlic flavor, and it just wasn't what I expected. Then our entrees arrived. My shrimp scampi was completely lacking flavor, the shrimp were overcooked, and the pasta was sitting on a pool of water that made the whole dish feel off. My husband's carbonara was actually enjoyable, and that was really the only highlight of the meal. After the other dishes, I didn't even feel brave enough to try dessert. Also... can we talk about the TV playing a video on a loop of someone reviewing the restaurant and basically claiming it was the best Italian restaurant in the area? Someone definitely invested in that marketing, but unfortunately, based on our experience, it did not live up to the hype. We had a double date and was our 1st time in. Service was wonderful! Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Ambiance was cozy and welcoming. Love that you can have a conversation and actually hear one another. Food was good, but could improve a bit. Bread and garlic oil they bring out was fresh, but maybe could be warmed or toasted. We had chicken Parmesan, fettuccine Alfredo, carbonara, meatball appetizer and a Caesar salad. All the food could have been more hot, seemed consistently that we all said our food was just warm. It was really chilly upon coming inside and since there was only one other table, the waiter was nice enough to turn down/off the ac for us. The remainder of his service however, just felt a little off. He spilled water in the beginning then didn't bring me another one until I asked. Then knocked off one of the breads out of the basket when putting it in the table. Then, instead of walking around to put cheese on each of our plates, he leaned over with his arms and elbows across the table and in our faces to reach to the plate on the other side. We ordered a spaghetti marinara, a spaghetti meatballs, a pesto penne and received bread with oil/garlic/pepper in the beginning. The portions were so small in the entrees and overpriced. Really bums me out to have to update this. In fact, I had a poor experience at Amici about a year ago and i spoke to the owner and she was so nice and apologetic so i just chalked it up to a busy night for a newer restaurant. Specifically, after loving the carbonara the first time i went, the second time the sauce was watery and so much different. But, after giving it another shot, I unfortunately felt the need to update. The SW Austin to Dripping corridor doesn't have many actual restaurants so Ive been really rooting for this one to be great, and I know the owners lived in Jersey so extra points there. But after returning with family in town from NJ, I really need them to improve on a number of things before I can return. The casual ambiance and decor is great, and I've typically found the staff to be very helpful and nice. In fact, the host/busser/runner/customer service young lady was so helpful and so kind. Our server was a very nice young man but clearly overwhelmed with about 4-5 4 top tables under his coverage. He really did his best. In general, I think the restaurant isn't managed as well as it should be, and that creates multiple hiccups in the experience. Little things add up - like...we placed our order and then they came back and said they were out of lasanga (better to be told that right when we are seated). It was difficult to get our bread...just little things like that.. But most of that stuff isn't a dealbreaker as much as the food - the chicken parm was terrible. I took one bite and that was it. It wasn't crispy - or tasty - it was just like a soggy tasteless mess. Even the pasta, the spaghetti had no flavor and the overly acidic tomato sauce slid right off of it. An Italian restaurant with a Little Italy heritage should really nail the chicken parm. speaking of the bread - one of the markers of a great restaurant is warm bread; this was the HEB pan fraces (which we love btw at home) cut up and put on a plate - the olive oil was good though. On the plus side, the salads are rather large! I've liked their pizza in the past and it's fine so I would order it again for delivery. I truly hope they can improve, because there is so much potential there, but for now I am going to have to pin my hopes to Cousin Louies (haven't tried that or Vessa Rossa yet, but am a big fan of Trattoria Lisina in the Drip/Drift area. read more

"Amici", is a very nice restaurant that appears very upscale yet can accommodate you even in casual dress. We visited during a cold snap on 2/19/25. Looking for somewhere to eat before we made burial arrangements for my Father in Law. It was about 2:00pm and along with another couple that had just walked in before us, there were only the two tables to serve. The server and possibly the owner was very diligent and effective as she served the needs of both tables and made sure our dinning experience was enjoyable. First of all, the bread she served with olive oil was such a refreshing element. The combination of oil and cheese mixture was perfect. As it was very cold outside so I was really craving a hot drink. The server mentioned that she had her very own personal tea from home to serve us at no charge. I think it was "Basil" tea. Whatever it was it was excellent. Now for the entree. The pizza was hand tossed and cooked to perfection. We still had quite a bit of oil left over from the bread so we enjoyed dipping the pizza crust in it. The garden salad was very good. The dressing was quite impressive. It was a balsamic vinaigrette which I usually don't like, but this one was very good. It almost changed my life! . I had high hopes for this place but it was VERY overpriced for the portion sizes, mediocre quality of the food and amateurish service. The zucchini blossom appetizer was promising, but $18 for four pieces was ridiculous. The arugula salad ($12) was basic but fresh, and large enough to share. My penne alla vodka with chicken added ($27 total) was a substantial serving, but was served just warming and about the same quality as a pre-pack pasta dish from HEB. I had a lot left over that I opted not to take home. My husband's meat lasagna ($25) was served hot and was also a decent portion size, but he said it was pretty mediocre and the sauce tasted like it was from a jar. In short: if they're going to charge these kind of prices, their dishes need to be elevated and have something special enough about them to justify the cost and to bring you back. Both the lasagna and the chicken parmigiana were very large portions. Enough where I asked for a to go box at the end. My Meat Lasagna was the best I can remember and my 16 year grandson had no trouble finishing his chicken parmigiana. I was so happy I ordered a cheesecake to go for my wife back home. Great food. I learned about this restaurant from the in-kind app. Went for dinner last night with two friends. Nice selection of beer, wine, and entrées. We tried the cheesy bread as an appetizer which was standard fair. I also enjoyed the arugula salad, which had a nice lemon dressing and the pasta carbonara. We thought the food was great. The meal began with some nice bread and an olive oil / garlic dipping that was very good. It tasted lemony, but the staff told us there was no lemon in it. Your table is given glasses for water and much like Naples, Italy, a bottle of water is left at the table to fill as you like. We had the spaghetti carbonara and the spaghetti & mussels. Both dishes are excellent. The carbonara was light and very tasteful. The mussels were fresh and I truly enjoyed them. Both plates were plentiful. We took half the carbonara home to enjoy for lunch today. The staff is great. Always attentive to our needs and very friendly. I had lived in Naples for a few years so we were able to speak with them in their native language. Food is quite authentic. The location is ample. Apparenly being shared with Stoney's Pizza (space only); Amici makes their own pizzas. It is difficult to get out of the parking lot going back west, but doable. It is only open in the evenings. Came here for our Valentines dinner. Talk about a HIDDEN GEM. Picked this place initially for the vibe. Seemed like a chill place and the aesthetic is what initially drew us in. I reached out to get a reservation through Yelp and was able to speak directly to the owner who was able to get us set up with a reservation. She was extremely friendly and accommodating to make our day special. The entire team at the restaurant was the friendliest group of people I've ever dealt with in a restaurant. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable and friendly during the duration of our stay. TOP NOTCH! Our server was great! Had great drink recommendations and basically advised on our entire order and he did not miss a thing! Was very knowledgeable of the menu and knew which wine would pair best with both of our dishes. Now the important stuff: the food. Started with a peach burrata that was ABSOLUTELY incredible. Bread was fresh, it was a light dish that packed a ton of flavor. We split one of the salads which was also incredible and packed with flavor (which you really have to do because people rarely say things like "I would love a salad right now.") I ordered the chicken Parmesan and it was probably the best chicken parm I have ever had in my life.the chicken was fried perfectly, the sauce was light but extremely fresh, and the pasta was cooked to perfection! We finally got over to this fairly new restaurant in our area after many attempts and thankfully it went well. Located in a strip center but nicely decorated to create a nice dining experience, this Italian restaurant offer a small menu of basic Italian dishes with a few specials thrown in. We went with the specials for a change of taste as well as some basics for comparison. The special appetizer was a burrata dish drizzled with honey, chopped pistachio and peach slices. We were amazed at how delicious this combination was. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano wine because on Thursdays they have half off bottles of wine. The other special was a split lobster tail, and shrimp over spaghetti with spicy marinara. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan. everything tasted good and the serving size was nice-sized. We were a little caught off guard at how pricey it felt at end of meal compared to other Italian local restaurants. Service was good, ambiance nice and the owner came by to check on how we enjoyed the meal. They were out of the cheesecake and we were not interested in the other options available. Good food, great service and not much ambiance. This small cafe shares the same eat in space and counter as Stony's Pizza. Due to this, it is a bit crowded, very little seating if it is very busy at all and conversations from other tables can dominate your own. There is not much that can be done about this as long as they share space. The food is very good and we've already been several times and will go again to continue trying more of the many delicious pasta offerings. Oh! And for now it is BYOB, until they get their liquor license or at least beer and wine license. Gotta love that! I wish it could always be that way! We would go even more often.
