Amici is a wonderful surprise. Yes, it's in a strip mall...but everything else sends you to your favorite restaurant in Little Italy. That is because they moved it to Texas. I never thought to find fried zucchini flowers 18 minutes from my home. I was surprised they offered veal, it's hard to find and my husband loves it. Even better the chef made him an off the menu veal Parmesan. I know all the pastas are handmade, and I did steal some spaghetti from my husband's plate, but I love great pizza. And it was great. The best pizza crust I've had in 40 years of living in Texas, that includes pizza from Italian restaurants in Houston and Dallas. And, oh my the red sauce. It was perfect, fresh and lively. We were in the area and had to give this a try! There are a lot of food trucks in this one little spot, so it's nice to be able to try all the different vendors. I will say they were on the pricier side for food trucks. We spent about $43 for two pasta entrees. We wanted to see what the hype was about. Their sauce was very creamy and they give a lot of sauce with your pasta. Everything is made fresh and they give you bread and oil with each entree. For food truck, their pasta was good. They have a lot of options to choose from on their menu. There wasn't a lot of people at this food truck and I'm assuming it's because of the price. It was good and I'd come back to try other items on the menu. read more

The restaurant and ambience are very cute and well decorated. Service was great appetizers were good and dessert was really good.. however the main dishes were very salty and could not finish eating and should have sent them back for the price. Cute little place. Ordered the burrata and it came on a plate with nothing to eat it with. There wasn't a piece of bread or cracker, nothing. My entree was pasta and chicken with truffle and mushroom. The chicken looked like foodservice diced frozen chicken, there was no detectable truffle and my pasta was swimming in water. I didn't drink my water because it tasted like Austin tap water. The best thing about my meal was the garlic knots and cheesecake. The waitstaff can't seem to carry food without putting their thumbs all the way over the edge of the dish. I don't think I would go back. Dinner for 2 was over $100 for 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 teas and 1 dessert and not worth the price. Apparently there should have been complimentary bread and oil at the table. Food was good but a bit pricy for the portions, and I was disappointed that the chef recommended that I keep the meat in the carbonara sauce... again, server said this so not sure if that's technically true or not. This was my first time at Amici. I wanted to see if the rave reviews were accurate. I am here to confirm that they are, indeed, true. If you don't drive up to the food truck, you might have to go on a little adventure walk to get there. It's worth it though. This place was awesome. We asked for the two most popular entrees and they didn't disappoint. Of the two, the carbonara was the favorite. The salad was SO GOOD, solid portions, and worth the price. The food was good. Choices are great. I did miss the bread they used to include at the truck location. I didn't like that the tables were so close you could not have a private conversation. The atmosphere is cute they might call it cozy but it was just too close for comfort. Prices were high for some dishes but that's just Austin. Amici is the real deal, Italian food from NY/NJ. My wife Al had the special which was a short-rib/porcini mushroom filled ravioli in a just right creamy sauce. Yummm! I've had the lasagna before which is excellent and tried the Penne with sausage and peppers and I added chicken to it. The tomato sauce was just right with chunks of tomato. Finished with a vanilla gelato affogato. The wine selection is pretty good and the bill is pretty affordable vs anything in or near downtown. I grew up in the NYC area this place is like a slice of heaven dropped here on the west side of Austin. The owners and staff are good people and take care of you. I highly recommend Amici and we'll keep coming back. read more

My family took me for the first time here for my birthday. The food was tasty, but the service left a lot to be desired. We had to ask not just for the wine menu, but to actually get our wine, and while we ordered early enough to catch the end of the happy hour window, we were charged full price anyway due to our server forgetting, apparently, to enter our order in the first place. There was only one other table present, yet it took a long time to get anything from the menus to the food to the bill. No free birthday dessert, either, which was a disappointment (though not an expectation) when we told our server it was my birthday and in consideration of the long wait time throughout the meal. Doubtful we'll be back, despite how much I love Italian food and the menu choices here. Not impressive enough to justify the cost or poor service. read more

Amici has gotten to be our favorite go-to restaurant for a quiet evening or a celebration. We regularly bring new friends and family to introduce them to this lovely place. We love Italian food, and the menu choices, preparation, and ingredients are all spot on every time. My husband eats gluten-free and they can accommodate that as well. What can I say? Hands down the absolute BEST gnocchi I have ever had in 50 years on this planet. Light, fluffy, flavorful. Unbelievable. Would you expect such a high caliber entree from a location tucked into a strip mall alongside 290? No of course not, BUT within 5 minutes of exchanging small talk with the very welcoming female owner, I learned that the place has a serious LEGIT provenance as the family had a well-established restaurant in NYC for years. You can tell. From the first bite of gnocchi I knew she was absolutely telling me the truth. Where this place excels - cozy up to the bar and enjoy a glass of wine with the best Italian food in Hill Country - maybe even all of Austin. It has that cozy family feel at the bar. Dining room looked little sterile and loud, but the service appears on point. They are clearly doing the best they can with the space. The bar section and takeout is where I'll no doubt be regular. I think the prices show value for portion size and given that everything is homemade with top notch ingredients. This is quality Italian. NOT Olive Garden darlin. Bravo to the owners and staff. Probably the only place that has made carbonara as I remember it having when I lived in Rome. Let me tell you, carbonara was the whataburger of Rome: you ate that after a party, clubbing or drinking copious amounts of alcohol. It was my go to dish whenever I wanted pasta. To finally find a business that does it right and the traditional way, it's truly marvelous. We placed the pasta order after placing an order of wings from a different truck as we thought the pasta would take longer. No, the pasta came out in half the time of the wings from the other business (strange). The pasta was for the gf (she'd never had it) but I ate a good amount of it. She really enjoyed the pasta, bread and dipping oil. Glad this place is near as it was something the Buda/Kyle area was missing. We'll be eating there more often as they have more traditional italian dishes. If the carbonara is any indication, their other dishes must be as spectacular. read more

We got delivered the carbonara and fettuccine Alfredo and they were so delicious (the carbonara was my favorite). We loved the food so much, we decided to go in person to eat at the restaurant. Their beef Bolognese and chicken fettuccine Alfredo were absolutely divine! The flavors were so good, and the portions were generous. And they gave us bread with this garlic olive oil mixture that was so delicious. The cozy ambiance and friendly staff made for a delightful dining experience. No way this place stays open. Slow service, the food is insanely overpriced for how bland and what it is. I don't mind spending $ on food but when you charge $15 for zucchini fritters and it's 4 slices shriveled and cut up smaller than a toddlers pinky that's insane. The table next to us when we sat down complained about freezer burn and how their food was cold, we were then served garlic cheesy bread 30 mins after we ordered and it was also ice cold. We got the lasagna and special of the night, lobster rav both had undercooked noodles, hard and very bland. Outside of trying to look nicer than other dripping springs options this place is a train wreck. Save your money and go anywhere else. read more

Was really looking forward to this. Trying to support local during this hard time. I was underwhelmed. The marinara sauce tasted like it was something out of a jar you would find at H-E-B. It had a watery consistency. The rice balls we're not what I was expecting. They were dough like (thought they might be a little more crisp due to being fried). Meatballs were pretty good. $22+ was steep for lunch (at least for me). I do realize getting food to go IS hard - things get cold and soggy from sitting in containers. Wish I could have eaten food there while it was hot, but unfortunately not during this pandemic. I was disappointed that none of the serving staff were wearing mask to be honest. My sister ordered from there the night before, so I asked her how her food was - thinking maybe I caught them on an "off " day, but she wasn't a huge fan either. read more
