At first I was thinking burger. Then I saw this salad on the menu and thought about being a bit healthier. Then I thought about the ribs. Then back to burger. Then back to salad. (Probably changed my mind a few more times, but that summarizes it.) I'm in town for a training and here with a group of 8. The service was better than expected given some of the other reviews. I guess the menu here changes since many of the pictures didn't match the menu. I quite enjoyed my salad. Great amount of brisket. Fresh greens. Good amount of dressing that didn't overpower. Fried schallots and bacon mixed in was a nice touch. Everyone else's food looked good and they all says good things about their choices. Worth a stop if you are in Bee Cave. read more

This place was fine for a quick upscale lunch. Not sure it's worth the price, but I expected a higher cost by sticking close to shopping. We came in on a Friday around noon. When we first walked in it looked almost too nice to bring my five year old in (will she behave? Will we get dirty looks?) but once we were seated it actually didn't appear as fancy. I think maybe they spent most of their decorating budget around the front desk, because behind the bar it was much less imposing (though still nice and comfortable). Our server was friendly and attentive. My daughter's chicken strips were actually pretty good, with a nice seasoned breading. The fries and sweet potato tots were solid. I ordered the green chile burger and it was good, though too wet for my liking. I had hoped to save half for later but it was immediately soggy and I knew there was no way it would make it to the next day intact. We've been to Chisos several times over the years, always for lunch after a trip to Whole Foods or other businesses in the vicinity. It's always been good, but, for whatever reason, I've never reviewed them, until now. It's a very agreeable location on one of the main streets through the Hill Country Galleria. They preserved a number of large old live oaks that now shade and lend character to the outside dining area. You can do some world grade people watching while you're having a beer before the food arrives. "Oh look, dear. One too many facelifts." It's pleasant and amicable on a weekday noon. The staff changes over with some frequency, so it's rare to get the same waitperson twice. But they all seem to be cordial, outgoing and well trained. The food has always been quality, if a little prosaic. This go around, I had the Nuevo Diablo from the appetizer menu. Five shrimp wrapped in bacon and grilled, with a terrific chipotle cream sauce along with pico and jalapeño Hollandaise. The sauces were rich and made the dish stand out. The shrimp were a little dry, even with the bacon wrap, but the sauces remedied all that. Our waitress recommended I add the jalapeño grits from the sides menu, and they really complemented the shrimp. It played havoc with my Weight Watchers points though. My companion asked for a full side salad and got it, though it wasn't really on the menu. It was 'good,' and the vinegarette dressing was 'wonderful' though the greens were a little limp. We left satisfied but not stuffed. It's a damn good choice for a lunch in a pleasant location. read more

I live in Fort Worth and visit my parents in the Lakeway/bee Cave area often and this is my favorite place to go to eat. It's pricey but I've never had anything there that wasn't worth the $$$. I've gone in for something as a simple as a drink and soup at the bar in the fall, spending time with myself and a book. To family dinners and friends lunches. I've tried the Ceviche, fried catfish, tortilla soup, pulled pork sandwich, the bacon glazed pork chop. Go for the bacon glazed pork chop! It's cooked perfectly, juicy, not dry, with a sticky caramelized flavor. The stone ground blue cornbread is definitely a table share and so sweet and fluffy. I was in the area with an 1 hr to kill before my appointment. I was craving a taco and found this restaurant on Yelp. Ironically, I ended up ordering a hamburger and fries. It just sounded good to me when I read the description. When the waitress brought out meal all I could say was "wow!" Substantial size and I *almost* finished it all. The fries were hot and seasoned perfectly. Service was great and attentive. Next time, I will try their tacos... maybe. The hamburger is just too good! read more

I found the pricing to be reasonable for the quality and quantity. I was a bit surprised by the choice of sauce for the fire cracker shrimp being a buffalo style sauce, but it still tasted great! A pleasant surprise. Given its location in the Galleria, I was expecting mall Mexican. Looking at the menu - I changed my mind. New Categorization: Mexican plus steak house. There are a lot of upscale grilled items - including steaks. Finally, eating the food, I got the placement right. Individual chef restaurant with a mind of his own. This is the best kind of restaurant. The cook, Chad Jones, works with a Southwestern vocabulary. But these dishes are most assuredly concoctions of his own creation. Many are outstanding. He is a risk taker. Risk takers will have their occasional misses. But there is a lot to like at this place. Find the dishes you like - and there will be a lot of them - And you can be very happy here. * * * Of particular note .... A bison chili with a cornbread muffin right in the middle of the chili. Bison is very lean. Chile con carne counts on beef fat to give it is hearty taste and feel. So you eat a bison chili and it seems very light and very insubstantial. The taste is subtle. The chilis are not. The chilis will come out of nowhere to pound you on the head. I like being pounded on the head by chilis. This was one dish in which I kind of wished I had been drinking ... Because it would have been tremendous with a margarita or a Mexican beer. The bison is so light, you could have a lighter drink with this. And the chilis will stone you into happy oblivion. That said, the star of this show is the cornbread muffin. It is intentionally left in the chili to totally mop up chili. It is drenched in chili the way that water drenches a sponge. And there is a "good stuff" coating on top of the corn bread. That corn bread was destination eating. * * * My carnivorous partner in crime raved about the pork chop. And I mean raved. * * * Desserts at upscale mall restaurants are often mediocre tab-builders. At Chisos Grill, you want to save room for dessert. Really. Make a deep emotional commitment to having dessert. Sign a pact with your messmate before you go. Partner in crime loved his flourless chocolate torte ... although nothing will probably score as high on his scoreboard as the pork chop for a long time. I had a dessert of which I was skeptical ... a pecan cheesecake. I became converted to pecan cheesecakes for life. (or at least to this one.) The cheesecake was a very good standard Jewish cheesecake, baked high. The slab of cheesecake you get is enormous. (It was the only super-large portion we got with the meal. Everything else was right-sized but smallish.) The pecan glaze is very light. The glaze candies the pecans. The pecan glaze and cheesecake go better together than any other cheesecake topping you have had. Forget cherries, Forget oreo. Forget strawberry. Pecan is the flavor you want with Jewish cheesecake. * * * Chips and dip are unimpressive. They are not free - which is fine. But in a Southwestern restaurant, Chips and dips are an obligatory item for having to be good. Its like those gymnastics competitions that start with required moves before the gymnast can move on to the free routine. I think the cook kind of wishes that chips and dip did not have to be on the menu. * * * Everything else though was fine. I suspect everything here gets even better if you drink. I live far from Bee Cave and have to drive dangerous roads to get home. So I am a forced teetotaler when I go to Chisos. Local Bee Cave residents have the opportunity of sampling from the bar. If I lived in Bee Cave, I would be working my way through the menu finding all the high points while getting happily plowed in the meantime. That would not be a cheap exploration. Chad Jones charges for his goods and services. But in return for that, you get signature dishes that you would not get in the City of Austin. That seems like a fair deal to me. read more

Came to bee cave for dinner and this is a very nice Tex mex place with large and clean indoor seating and dog friendly patio. The food is very good at a reasonable price. The Texas red fish was in season so I tried that, it comes with a little crab meat on top in a chili sauce gives you some heat. The sweet potato is very crispy. Try their sampler for a starter while wait for your food. The service was good at the beginning but our waitress disappeared after 10mins and other waiter or waitress didn't care about our table at all. My water was empty for 30mins and no refill, and we finished our meals and no where to find our waitress to get bill, so in the end we found someone else to get the check after waited for at least 30mins. read more

I had only been a handful of times after they moved to the other side of the Hill Country Galleria before Covid. I've always been a fan of the food, but always thought it was a bit on the pricey side for what you get. Enter approximately 7 months in, and I remembered Chisos' chicken fried chicken with the BEST grits I have EVER had. Just had to have it. After looking at their website, I did not see any options for online ordering and/or curbside. My first call went to voicemail, but was quickly returned. I was able to place an order and pay for it through the very nice bartender. 20 minutes later and my order was ready. While they do not have specified spots for curbside pickup, there are temp spots on the side of the building. Just call and a staff will happily bring the food to your car. All of it was just as good as I remember! Comfort food yes! And really great service. Thanks Chisos for scratching craving. Please remember to tip on to go orders. My friend went to eat there on Sunday for a nice meal and to watch golf. I had not been here for several years as I did not have good food and thought expensive 3 years ago. We sat at the bar and I believe Carlos (?) was the bar tender . We asked about Mimosa or drink specials. he said they had a pitcher of mimosas which is 5-6 glasses and best deal. We got the pitcher and it was very small, maybe 4 small glasses. Then it it got worst. ordered the Texas cobb salad. I saw the price was $18.50 so I thought this must be a great salad. Well, it came out with a very poor presentation of old lettuce, only two samll slices of egg, two cherry tomatoes, and a blob of shredded brisket on top covered with fried onion bits and cheese. this was one of the worst cobb salads i have ever had and the brisket tasted weird. I had a better cobb salad at a pizza place on last week for 10.99 ! To clarify the bar tender was very nice , but should have told us the small pitcher of mimosa was $52.00 ??? Not sure how the place stays in business ans too expensive for the quality of food . read more

The experience here was underwhelming. The food was average--nothing particularly memorable. Our group ordered drinks (which tasted watered down), the bison chili, tortilla-crusted chicken salad, queso with pulled pork (though it barely had any pork), and a burger. We also noticed we had been overcharged for an extra cup of chili. When we asked for the bill to be corrected, the staff member who was training someone seemed irritated by the request to see a revised itemized receipt. It may have been due to his lack of proper training or oversight, but the interaction as he passed the bill off at the table while walking by one last time left a last poor impression. read more

If the multiple pages of increasingly desperate text scrolling down Chisos' website don't scare you off, you might find yourself like me enjoying a weeknight dinner in a relatively empty restaurant, where the server was gregarious and expedient, but the food is just so-so. Brisket tacos with fried avocado and a side of charro beans? Sounds delicious, but the brisket had minimal flavor to it and the avocado even less, served on a gummy tortilla. My wife's salad with fried chicken was game enough, though the chicken pieces were shaped like a hot dog, cut into slices. If you ever had a Long John Silver's chicken plank, you got the idea. Weird, but at least more flavorful than the taco. Alas, not enough dressing to go around. The beer I ordered was absolutely awful, but I can't fault Chisos on that one. Please, however, turn the temperature up a tick. I know it's over 100 degrees outside but I was anxious to get out of the a/c blast zone when dining. read more

You know how when something sparkly catches your eye, but then you look closer and it's just a piece of crumpled aluminum foil? That's the kind of let down i felt after my meal at Chisos Grill. The space is open and airy and i have no complaints about our waiter. He was attentive and friendly. The food, however, was disappointing. I ordered Firecracker Shrimp Tacos ("fried gulf shrimp, spicy firecracker sauce, cotija cheese & crunchy cabbage slaw") with a side of borracho beans. First, the beans were only slightly warm. Second, there was nothing spicy about the shrimp tacos. If fact, the opposite: they were sweet. I was expecting savory and spicy and i got sweet. Awful. They looked good, in fact, they were pilled high with every decorative food item possible: cheese, slaw, marinated onions, "Firecracker" sauce. Not sure where the sweet flavor came from and I am even more curious about why the words "fire cracker" and "spicy" were even used in the description. If you enjoy sweet foods, you may like these tacos. I don't, and i didn't. read more

We've been to Chisos a few times and I would say they're pretty consistent. Food is always good along with the service. We get the queso every time and it's creamy and delicious. The pulled pork tacos with fried avocado on top are juicy and flavorful. Jalapeño cheese grits are also tasty and a great compliment to the tacos. Their menu has a decent variety of food options if you happen to have a party with differing likes. My husband got the ribeye and said that it was better than the ribeye he gets at Saltgrass. That's a compliment for a restaurant that doesn't specialize in steaks! We wrapped up dinner with caramel pecan cheesecake. Outdoor seating is a nice option. read more

Surprisingly, we had never been to this restaurant before and it was definitely a wonderful surprise. We sat on the patio, underneath the shade of a giant live oak tree, and enjoyed our brunch. We tried a number of their salads and tortilla soup and each was excellent. Located in the Bee Cave Galleria near Whole Foods, this restaurant sits at the corner and affords great people and car watching. The servers wear masks, and ask the guests to wear a mask unless they're seated and eating. Both the inside and the outside patios are open for dining. If you're in the bee cave galleria, consider giving this place a try. read more

We stopped at Chisos mainly because of their nice outdoor seating area with some friends. I feel bad we walked past this place so may times, what a missed opportunity. My wife had the diablo steak. It was fantastic. One of the best steaks you can buy from a prive to quality and flavor perspective. It was perfectly cooked, exactly as she asked. It was flavorful and simply delicious. Our two friends had the same dish and also loved it. I had the salmon tacos. I can say they were probably the best salmon tacos I have ever had. You need to give them a try. We had a bottle of Yardstick Cab from Napa (2017) which was surprisingly good and affordable. Easy to drink, flavorful and fruity. My wife's sangria was great too. Service was great. And their patio is beautiful and very enjoyable. My only complaint is the table is a bit high relative to chair height. A minor thing. Overall we had a wonderful dinner and we will be coming back very soon. read more

Delicious. We had the chisos sampler appetizer. Had delicious queso with meat in it, a salsa and guac. The chips for it were super light and crispy. Main courses were the chicken strips breaded in tortilla chips, salmon salad and chicken fried chicken. The chicken strips, which sound super plain, were awesome. The salmon salad was really good, as was the chicken fried chicken. Their fries are tasty here. Service was great. Super friendly, really nice and very attentive. We brought our puppy and sat on the patio in the shade. Perfect spot. They even brought a bowl of water over for our puppy and we're super nice to her. I only wish they were open later. I think they close at 9pm. But this is kind of the norm for the bee cave area. Things close a little earlier. If you are looking for a change of pace and super nice folks, with good food, give chisos a try. Highly recommended. read more
