My wife and I had an excellent experience our first time here. It was beautiful on the balcony with great music and friendly staff who took great care of us and our dog. The food was also fantastic. I got the firecracker shrimp tacos and my wife who wasn't previously hungry ordered her own after tasting them. The ingredients were fresh, and the vegetables were crisp. I struggled with what to rate or whether to share a review after our experience at Chisos Grill. I really feel for these businesses trying to stay open during uncertain times and writing negative reviews is not something I enjoy. *Disclaimer, we ordered an app and kids meal for a snack so I can't really speak to the food on the entire menu.* Food: We had the chicken strips which were hard and chewy and lacked flavor. We also had queso which was the plastic cheese type that comes with a light film across the top of the cheese. It was all just okay. Addition, there was Either a misunderstanding somewhere along the line or our order got messed up. Service: Service started out great, friendly, quick with our drinks but quickly went down hill. I had intentions on ordering more food, but our waitress never returned after dropping the first dish within a reasonable amount of time. When I pointed out an error in our check, she completely flipped and was pretty rude. All of this could have been an easy fix and not a big deal had anyone just been a tad more friendly with the misunderstanding with our order or more professional. The manager should have been walking around making a better attempt, instead of hiding in the kitchen. Overall our experience left bad taste and made me feel very uncomfortable and we won't be giving this place a second chance. read more

As always excellent food. Service is good but could use some polishing. What I was hoping to eat was no longer on the main menu. Sadly as I was seated wanting to sit outdoors I was treated poorly. I couldnt believe service was so bad. I was put up on a bar seeing but a wall with tons of plants with crawly creatures going into my food. I was not waited on but pretty much forgotten will not return if they treat customers this way. Seriously the stool on the bar was hurting my back and was told if I wanted my food to go ...I guess if your wanting a nice time this isnt a place to go now. Me and my family have been here a few times the last few months and our visits have never been short of amazing. We have had the same server the last 2 times, I can't recall her name. Samantha maybe? She had a very outgoing and bubbly personality with a loud, contagious laugh. She was AWESOME! In every way. She let us know to be patient with her, as they were short staffed, which is very understandable considering that staff shortage is a huge problem everywhere right now. I commend her for letting us know as soon as she greeted us in case she got busy, although she never missed a beat. Her timing was impeccable. Worst food ever and the people who work there are nasty. I ordered the "highly recommended" chicken fried chicken and it had been fried in the same oil as the restaurant's tortilla chips! Chicken smelled and tasted like tortillas--not good. I also ordered mashed potatoes but got some unrecognizable mush. Tasted awful. They wouldn't give me a refund. I have a storied past with the Big Bend area. I spent a good portion of my summers hanging out in BB thru the late 80's and early 90's. Establishments like the Dessert Deli and Diner, Starlight Theater, La Kiva, and the Study Butte store was what I was channeling upon entering the Chisos Grill. We got to know the locals, who's inspections stickers and registrations had expired on their cars by several years. The only law enforcement they ever saw was during the Terlingua chili cook off, so they just stayed home. A guy named Mike who moved to the dessert to sell Ice Cream to tourists, a nice gal named Angie that guided us down the Rio Grande on rafting trips. Chisos was friendly enough, excellent service as we were the only patrons at opening. The queso was quite delicious with the addition of pulled pork. The chips on the other hand were stale and cold; at our request they were replaced with warmer fare. Mom went for the Alpine salad with tortilla soup. No complaints from her end also enjoying a glass of Le Crema pinot noir. I opted for the chicken fried chicken served with mashed potatoes with green chili gravy. The chicken was delicious and appeared to be pan fried. Delicious gravy, but the mashed potatoes were cold. My dish also included a cup of tortilla soup that was quite flavorful. Just like the queso, it also contained pulled pork which was a nice addition instead of the usual chicken. A fairly good showing for Chisos Grill. Not amazing, but decent fare. Dining here made me recall one of my favorite memories; sitting on the banks of the Rio Grande in Santa Elena canyon eating tuna with black olives and apple with crackers. Getting some rowing fuel before we headed thru the rapids towards the open waters to the southeast. I'll make another visit to Chisos just to see what else I can dislodge from the ol' hard drive! read more

Food is pretty good. Salads are fresh. The wedge salad is fab. The service is excellent. The only fault I find WTH the place is the wines are way overpriced. I guess it's sort of a "Bible Belt" thing, you have to do penance on the spot for imbibing. There seem to be two classes of wine at Chisos, inexpensive but undrinkable, or overpriced mid level wines. Over fifty dollars for a wine that sells at Total for under $13. Give us a break, just mark up the wine 300% and take the inferior stuff off the menu. read more

Went back again today for lunch and sat inside this time. What a great decor! Felt like I was in an upscale Denver restaurant and the service, drinks and food were perfect. They have truly elevated their menu since the former location. The welcoming fireplace, bar with Bee Cave motif, spacious tables and booths all give an upscale SW vibe. The shrimp Nuevo Diablo with creamy grits I had for lunch was miles above what they used to serve as was the pecan crusted chicken entree. Proof that if you plate well and serve quality food you can turn a restaurant around and make a shining example of why happens when you care about your guests' experience. Definitely one of the best choices in mediocre Bee Cave and I was happy to see the place packed for lunch. read more

When we arrived for outdoor seating all the tables had a reserved sign on them so we almost passed it by. Thankfully we asked staff if we could sit at one of the outdoor tables and were immediately seated. Glad we were. Our waitress was super friendly and kind. We split the Chicken Pablano sandwich and quickly found this has got to be one of their best dishes. The bun is soft with a hint of sweetness and the chicken is moist, complemented by the spice of the Pablano.....although not too spicy....just right. Add to that the bacon and condiments and the final product was just right. Along with that came the hot and crispy wedge type fries which were also delicious. The chicken tenders are juicy and perfectly cooked. Encrusted in ground tortilla chips, then cooked to perfection. Accompanied by a great, sweet chipotle dipping sauce (not too spicy) and their house ranch sauce. The fried catfish was amazing! If you like tartar sauce, you're going to love Chisos' version. The regular fries were crispy and the sweet potato fries were great. Start the meal with their home made queso...make sure to get pulled pork added - a perfect appetizer. We'll be back! read more

At first I didn't really like this restaurant, I must've tried a few things on the menu that just weren't appealing. It has so many great reviews that I decided to go back and what do you know I found three of my favorite things: you have to try the blue cornbread, the wedge salad (although I get it without the blue cheese and with ranch dressing), And finally the most amazing barbecue salmon tacos... I know I know you don't think it's gonna be good, but it's amazing. This is become one of my daughter and I's favorite places to go and have lunch or dinner for a mother-daughter date. read more

This used to be a go-to spot for meeting a friend or a client for lunch because it's a step up from a chain restaurant and the food is tasty. The last few times I have visited however, have been disappointing. Service is never really that good. Everything takes a long time. The food almost always comes out lukewarm, the cushions in the otherwise comfortable bench seating are delaminating and splitting, and the dishes are just uninspiring to look at. Add some green beans! Add some red peppers somewhere! Do something! The dishes are in desperate need of just a tiny bit of flair. And the servings are way WAY too small. Ownership: this is a high-end community. Invest in your business. Fix your chairs. Hire a culinary consultant and make your plates a little nicer to look at. Invest in some better silverware. It's called pride of ownership. read more

Excellent Chipotle BBQ Salmon tacos! Perfectly paired with the Chiso's Rita on the rocks. Start it off with the the Texas Citrus Ceviche appetizer. Can't get enough of these creative dishes with just the right amount of kick. Other must-tries are the SW Salad with grilled Salmon add-on and the Pueblo Chicken. Everything here is great and I haven't had a dish I didn't love! Excellent burgers to boot! Plenty of GF options, too. Happy Hour 4-6pm every day! read more

This place needs some work. The food seems to be pretty good but the service was so terrible that the entire experience ended up being a bad one. We were seated and our drink orders were taken probably a good 10 minutes later. None of the employees seem to know what they are doing and management doesn't seem to be around to help them either. There were two manager-looking people there but they were just awkwardly standing around. It was a painful sight to see since the place is in such a great location and has lots of potential. One manager was dressed in a skimpy minidress and looked like she was going to an anime convention while the other looked over dressed in a "3-piece suit" kind of attire. I sure hope they work things out with their employees. The food that we ordered was all appetizers since we came here to check out their happy hour. We got their queso, which was pretty good, chicken tenders (a tad bit dry), calamari (the pieces are a little big and not the typical "rings" but were still yummy), truffle fries (good!), tostadas (good!), and stuffed peppers (just ok). Their bartenders are trying to add a spin on things but they seem to still be getting the hang of things. We ordered a blackberry margarita which had practically no alcohol in it and a watermelon margarita which tasted more like a pink lemonade. Parking is great since there is a garage right behind the restaurant and they have a pretty great patio. I can't wait to come sit on the patio when the weather gets a little cooler. Chisos is a great addition to the Hill Country Galleria! This new restaurant is local family owned with an upscale Southwestern decor offering up a SW Texas & New Mexico focused menu. We started and ended with appetizers since we were there during Happy Hour. HH is 3-6PM 7 days a week with 1/2 off select appetizers and 1.00 off wine and draft beer. My favorite was the Chisos Salad with fried oysters - the oysters are lightly battered and perfectly paired with avocado, salty cojita and slightly sweet peppadew peppers. The Tostados topped with slow roasted pulled Pork were succulent and flavorful. My dinning companion loved the Peppadews stuffed with cilantro and green chile goat cheese - I do not like goat cheese so it was lost on me. The Mesquite Grilled Shrimp were large and served with a nice and spicy jalapeno cocktail sauce - the shrimp had a nice flavor and texture but I was not crazy about the cocktail sauce. I enjoyed my Malbec and my friend had a Fireman's draft. Not sure which appetizers were half off but with the 15% discount coupon I had our total came to around 30.00 before tip! We loved our adorable waitress who was spot on in making suggestions and describing our selections. The manager also gets a 5 star rating - very enthusiastic while remaining "polite" as apposed to obnoxious. FYI they are located near Dillard's across from Dogadillo. And they have a large bar area with flat screens if watching sports is your thing. read more

We came just before Happy Hour ended (about 10 mins) and then the waitress showed up a minute after it ended... Waitress: "Hey before Happy Hour ends, can I get you any drinks?" Us: "Oh cool, it's still Happy Hour" Waitress checks her watch "Oh no, it's 6:32" Us: .... Waitress: .... Us: Seriously? We can't get happy hour prices now? (Honestly we didn't even care about the prices it's more the point of the matter) Waitress: Nope. (No apology, no smile, no nothing just staring at us frowning) Us: .... Waitress: "I'll come back when you've decided what to order" We just got up and left. It wouldn't have mattered if we missed happy hour if she was a little more polite about it but seriously?
