We like the food here, everything we have had has been very tasty. However, they have now started to charge $2 extra for salads as the romaine issue has caused their lettuce cost to rise. Some kind of price rise to offset the cost makes sense. However, adding $2 to salads that cost $16.50 to begin with is done in poor taste. There is no way that the hike is proportional to the romaine increase. $16.50 for a decent salad with chicken is high. $18.50 is never going to happen. This is Austin, not New York. read more

I hadn't been here since it moved to its new location over 4 years ago. We were disappointed that they had not yet resumed their happy hour. The food however was good! Okay...so I am not really the type to give five stars out to a restaurant. Know that going in on this review. I was thrilled, delighted,and satiated to perfection with Chisos Grill. Atmosphere. I dined on the pet friendly deck that was shaded by several well groomed live oaks that had occillating fans attached to them to help cool the environment. There were several charming wooden farm style tables with rustic steel chairs that would seat large parties of 6-8 people each. I noticed immediately that it was kept very clean! I was greeted promptly by the very handsome and charming David who welcomed me and my poodle companion, Toto and offered a fresh bowl of water for him. Menu. A little something for everyone on the menu. Some gluten free choices. Some healthy choices. I wish I had taken more photos of the menu for you to browse, I am quite certain you can hit a link above and check it out in depth. I dined on a grilled salmon salad that was generous in portion. Clean and complex in taste and presented to me in a most creative and artistic fashion. Several hours later my tummy was still very happy and appreciative of the cleanliness of the dish. I had a lovely craft beer that David recommended to me, Save The World peach Saison Ale. It was a delicately well balanced ale that was neither sickeningly sweet nor too dulling to the palate. So... if you would have thoughts that it would be too fruity, it was not. Just a peach drop hint of the fruit was in it. A tickle to tease you. The fries were nice and crisp yet not over done and not greasy and they were served hot. I had my very first Trés Leches cake here. I don't really know where to begin here as I have never had anything like this before in my life. I really loved it. It is not like bread pudding nor sponge cake! Anyways... Sugar, it put Pop Rocks in my panties! Yummy! So... if you are tooling around Bee Cave,pop into the Galleria and pay a visit to Chisos Grill. Ask for David, a prince among men. He really tipped the scales on the enjoyment meter for me. So accommodating and thoughtful. It makes for a nice leisurely dining experience. Oh. Price! Excellent price point! Popped in on a last minute dinner with my dad and ran into some friends! Great American food options with a Southwest twist. I had salmon salad which was fabulous great light vinaigrette dressing, avocados, romaine lettuce, lightly spiced salmon with avocado, tomatoes, and carrots. Very light option but very satisfying. The table started out with pork tostadas and they were gone within three minutes! The burgers our friends ordered looked scrumptious and they came with sweet potato fries...,my dad had the catfish!! I love this place! Great food. I really like the outdoor seating... very charming patio with great tunes from Johnny Cash etc playing in the background. The wedge salad is fantastic! The food is great, the service is excellent, the place and atmosphere are great, but the prices are WAY too high. Examples... No free chips and salsa (delicious by the way). Kids penne pasta is $8 with no drink or side. Everything else is just a dollar or two overpriced. Bottom line this place could be 5 stars and do A LOT more business if they'd do free chips and salsa and bring their prices down a bit. We'll keep coming back, but not as much as we would if we felt it was a better value. read more

I am sorry to say the move to a new location must have changed things for the worse. My wife and I eat there this week and it was terrible. I have eating at the restaurant since 2013 and it was my favorite Southwest restaurant. So here is what we found: Menu/prices - new menu took away the 2 sides choice they used to have and listed pick one from sides they are not known for. If you wanted one of the sides from the normal list it was an extra price! Service - the staff is still nice.. But didn't see any of regular wait staff we knew. However, it too a LONG time to get our food. Not what we used to see. Food - it was okay.. But I didn't think it was the same quality as a few months ago. Wouldn't say it ranked above other local restaurants. Summary- won't be recommending this place any more. I'm a bit remiss in writing this review, having eaten at the Chisos Grill twice now. I like the place, though I wish I could say that I love it. The decor actually represents the menu quite well - a sort of modern design that straddles the fence between Texas and New Mexican, with a lot of burnt orange, hard woods, and turquoise blues. Similarly, the food (sometimes) goes for that same vibe, and hits more often than misses. The Chisos burger, for example is competent. But it's completely unmemorable, even with a generous dollop the one ingredient that is Southwest-ish: the chipotle aioli. I'd have to put the appetizer portions of the guacamole and the quesadilla in the same category - competent, but rather bland. The West Texas Lettuce Wedge salad fares better. It's identical to the kind I've had at steak houses, but the one I had was exceptionally fresh and the blue cheese crumbles were very flavorful. The entrees are a mixed bag as well. I realize that there's only so much you can do with side staples like mashed potatoes and fries. But the 'Southwest' rice is head-scratchingly underwhelming, with bland peppers and a strange grittiness to this side dish. However, I have to praise the two entrees I liked, which were the Steak Diablo and the Green Chile Scampi Ribeye. In both cases, the steaks were done properly with lots of requested pink showing in the meat, and both had a pleasant mix of salt, charcoal, and heat flavors. The bigger accomplishment is the Steak Diablo, which I had thought would be dreadful - chipotle cream and jalapeno hollandaise? As it happens, Chisos pulled it off, and my palate is all the better for it. A shout-out to the friendly staff. Service wasn't the fastest but they did keep us well-watered on a very hot day for dinner. Obviously, it was good enough to try again. I'd recommend giving the place a shot if you're at the Galleria, and you're into 'fusion' cuisine restaurants. Pro Tip: Show up between 3:30 and 5pm and most of the appetizers are half off. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK being seen eating here by Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. OMG well worth the drive!!! Purchased a Groupon while we were visiting Austin from San Antonio. First of all the drive from Austin was so beautiful - I had never been out this way. Being from San Antonio, I am always a little leery of small town service etc. We had an awesome experience here. First of all I was worried that they may not honor our groupon on a Sunday evening - BUT they did. The food is so good, fresh and antibiotic free. I loved the spinach salad and Bison Chili. But started with their pork filled queso and chips with pork stuffed jalapeños. Everything was so good and finishing off with the gluten free chocolate cake. To die for!!!! Our server was so super sweet, friendly and very accommodating to our every request. Queso-- if you mess this up-- you shouldn't be a southwestern grill. I enjoyed it for the most part. The paprika on the chips is odd... $7? Way too much for melted cheese. Tortilla soup-- this was a hearty, spicy rendition that reminded me more of chili than a traditional Mexican soup. The base was paprika, water and cayenne. The only redemption? My one slice of pork. That was good. Southwestern salad- average. But much needed to cool my mouth off from drinking cayenne as a soup. NICE!!! Atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable. We sat away from bar and it was about 4PM. Love the Galleria stroll in the afternoon and neat to find a different type of eating establishment. The meal was delicious. We had a side of grits, cole slaw, sweet potato fries, spinach salad, and nueces chicken. All was quite fresh, gluten free, and so tasty. We have given this place a couple of tries. With groups, with family, with just myself and my husband. It is ok. My biggest issue is actually finding something on the menu, that I like. I am not a huge fan of fried food or overly spicy food. The menu has a ton of both. The wait staff is young. So young many can't bring you drinks to the table. The bartenders have to bring them. The food that I do order is ok. Nothing special and usually something on my plate is cold. Last night the green beans were not even room temperature while other things on my plate were so hot it burnt the top of my mouth. The noise level can be high. I find myself having to yell for people to hear me. A so so place at best. After last nights experience it may have been our last. Happy Hour everyday from 3 to 6pm. My husband and I eat out a lot. We decided to try Chiso's Grill despite some of the negative reviews. It seems like if a restaurant is located in the Galleria it automatically gets low scores. But if you are in a food truck 5 stars almost every time. I've been to 5 Star trucks that should have been 2-3 stars and Chisos on our visit was definitely 5 stars. Our waiter was great. He recommended a chicken dish and my husband had the pork chop. Both were prepared differently than we have ever tasted and were delicious. This is by far THE BEST restaurant in Austin. They have a very unique southwest menu and their sauces are amazing. If a chef can master various sauces, then a restaurant will have it made. The chef nailed the sauces, the variety of food and menu we absolutely delightful. They are the only restaurant in the Galleria that failed to reinstate Happy Hour as things have improved. For years, on both sides of City Hall, we frequented Chiso's about twice a month switching from Happy Hour to Regular Menu. Not anymore.
